WELCOME TO BUTTE LA ROSE, THE HEART OF THE ATCHAFALAYA BASIN AND THE HEART OF ACADIANA: In the early 1930s when the Army Corps of Engineers carved two long levees right through the Atchafalaya River Basin, what had once been a widely sprawling river system prone to seasonal flooding became a fifteen-mile-wide "spillway" contained between those two earthen walls. The water level in the Basin rose by several feet, permanently flooding many areas, and people who had made their homes there eventually moved to communities on the dry, western side of the levee--Henderson, Catahoula, Bayou Benoit and beyond--leaving no trace of the old settlements behind. Only one community remained. Perched on a ridge along the banks of the Atchafalaya River, Butte La rose is the only community in St. Martin Parish that is still located between the Basin levees. No other place can claim to be the heart of Atchafalaya as credibly as Butte La Rose can. The community is nestled against one of the more winding meanderings of the Atchafalaya River, and residents remain closely tied to the river and other nearby waterways--fishing, crawfishing, frogging and hunting, enjoying bayou-side crawfish boils and pleasure boating. So many waterways surround Butte La Rose--Butte La Rose Canal, Henderson Lake, Lake Begneaux, Lake Pelba--it's as close to an island as you can get without actually being an island. We are only 3 miles from interstate 10 but we are a small remote camping village. Many hummingbirds visit here every year. They arrive in March and leave in Sept. We overlook a wilderness sanctuary home to turtles, alligators, beavers, and otters, along with a variety of water birds among the wildlife. The camp is centered around a 300-plus-year-old cypress tree. The space The cabin is an open-concept design with high ceilings and two open lofts for sleeping. This cozy fenced-in spot provides a place to plug in your RV and stay in the Big Easy in a safe, tucked away side yard just minutes from the Bywater, Marigny and French Quarter and a few blocks from the Mississippi River. You can drive, bike, or Uber to hundreds of bars and restaurants in less than 15 minutes. Enjoy your morning coffee on the brick patio and feel free to use the fire pit (fall/winter only) and hammock! The description says an acre because it is impossible to put in a smaller number, but the actual parking space is about 25 x 50 ft, with additional hangout space nearby. I am right next door (on the other side of the fence) if you need anything and can help navigate entering and setting up and give you a key to lock the gate with. Warning: If your camper/RV is tall, it is tight getting in because there is a branch near the gate that hangs down to about 10.5 - 11 feet. This is best for small pull behinds and camper vans.

We used to have a white German sheperd "Peanut" but he passed away in 2025. So that's the dog seen in some pics. There is a little dog "Lithium" (terrier mix) that stays on the property and will be out sometimes but generally stays inside the camper belonging to our groundskeeper Jenn.

Lovely little spot! We stayed in the RV and it was perfect for our needs. Comfortable, cozy RV, bed was comfy. If it had not been raining we would have really enjoyed the outdoor patio area also. Hosts were just wonderful! Sooo very sweet. Location was fun! Close to several locations where you can take a great airboat ride! Wish we could have stayed longer. Highly highly recommend!

This is our 2md overnight in 2 years at Phanat’s little oasis in the middle of New Iberia and we highly recommend. Our late arrival and rainy weather prevented us from enjoying the full experience (lovely Zen garden area!) but we still enjoyed a peaceful night of sleep.

Outside areas were well manicured and the porch, bedroom, and bath we used were immaculate, nicely decorated, and well provisioned. We enjoyed a drive along the levee and dinner at Turtles waterfront restaurant

Stayed here for a week during Jazzfest. Affordable RV park in the back of a motel. The manager is very friendly, helpful, and responsive. At $30/night for full hookups it was by far the cheapest option around New Orleans that I found. The park is bare bones, just a gravel lot. The biggest negative for me is it’s right next to the railyard, the trains are loud and I could feel the ground shake at times. I liked that it’s right across the street from the bus line (9), which runs very close to the fairgrounds, I got a week pass on the RTA Le Pass app for $15 for unlimited rides.

I stopped here to tent camp as the perfect halfway point on a trip. The first time I was greeted by friendly dogs and cute animals but didn’t know where to go and it was getting dark, so i set up by the barn and felt odd. The second time I met the host and I realized there was a road that went along the water and had little private camp sites, which i could drive right up too. It was so nice and beautiful! And much quieter over there. Alyssa was so sweet and awesome. I appreciated having the nice indoor bathroom. This was my first time solo camping and I felt really comfortable there. I adored all the animals. They are so fun and cute. I want to go back and visit them some time!

Very secure for your trip into New Orleans. Very friendly staff and electric hook ups. I didn’t hear the trains when I slept but they are close so bring ear plugs if you wake to any noise. Uber is around 20-25 to French quarter and there is laundry I Wish there were a little grassy dog area, he did not want to go to the bathroom there, lots of rocks. But again very secure to keep your fur baby safe in your RV while you check out the sights with 24/7 cameras and isn’t that the most important?! We will be back and recommend.

It depends on what you are looking for. This is a no frills all hook up, secure lot. We stayed while at Jazzfest and it worked out great! It is right next to the freight train tracks so definitely train noise.

Good place to stay for the budget conscious. Trains didn't bother me at all, actually helped me sleep cause we are train enthusiast and I grew up semi close to hearing trains all night. Yeah, the neighborhood is a little rough, but don't cause any problems won't be any problems. The entire property is securely gated requiring a card to enter for those that are concerned, we weren't. Very close to Jazz Fest and the French Quarter. Brijesh was super nice and accommodating.

Phildon reached out to me before I arrived to give me an update on the weather and the info about the shower house. The tent site was very cozy, close to the water. There were lots of frogs singing when I arrived around 10 pm. There was a concrete pad I could park my motorcycle on. The tent sites are on the right, just past the bridge.

Weekend Trip to Royal Palms RV Park

Perfect affordable safe spot to camp if you are headed to the New Orleans area. Visited New Orleans for work and partied in the city after work. 15 mins from the city in a gated well lit secure lot with water and power hook ups. Will definitely return. Not the best area in the city but just like anywhere else. Staff/owner was very helpful and it's obvious they take pride in maintaining the property.

This spot was exactly what we needed. My son (12) was tired of sleep camping in the Jeep with me through Cracker Barrel’s and truck stops across 5 states. He wanted to sleep by himself in a tent. We needed to charge our EcoFlow power station, too. So Damon’s spot gave us a night to refresh and each have a night to our own space before moving on.

Phildon was super communicative wven when not on site. Recommended a perfect available pitch and answered all questions quickly. My tip would be to aak for WiFi password before arrival as we had zero signal with Verizon and had to drive out to get supplies and a signal. We did not use the bathrooms or laundry facilities so cannot comment on those. Hook up was 50 amps. Phildon had an 50-30 adaptor if required but we had our own. Lovely little spot in the Bayou.
