My wife and I are native south Louisianians. I grew up fishing, trawling, catching seafood, hunting and skiing in Westwego. My wife grew up near New Orleans eating poboys and beignets. We moved to Prairieville 20 years ago. It’s just over an hour from New Orleans and our Bayou property is very similar to what we we accustomed to in Cajun country, Westwego. Learn more about this land: We own 2 acres of partially secluded property on Bayou Manchac. Our place is a genuine Cajun retreat inside and out. We’re operating one campsite and all 3 experience options at this time;. The site is on the Bayou; great for relaxing, bird and turtle watching, kayaking, etc. (There is a public boat launch if needed) Great place for adult only relaxation or for families. Grassy area with firepit for s’mores, archery equipment, etc. We’re close to Baton Rouge and LSU; also about an hour away from the New Orleans metro area. Authentic Cajun hosts lives in a unique A-frame on the property and can point you to swamp tours and seafood markets. We are lifelong locals with lots of knowledge of the area! We can interact with you as much or as little as you’d like. We love to cook and often share Cajun meals with our guests!. Quiet neighborhood for bike riding and walking.

Best Hipcamp Experience EVER
My husband and I had the most amazing time staying at Maria and Timmie’s Hipcamp. Camping right on the bayou was beautiful and we were situated perfectly between Baton Rouge and New Orleans that we were able to take some fun day trips to both cities. As hosts, Maria and Timmie are unparalleled. Truly!! They are native to the area and had a wealth of knowledge when it came to Louisiana and Cajun culture. They are tremendously kind and generous with their time and knowledge. They showed us how to cook some authentic Cajun food and took us to some of their favorite local spots. We cannot recommend this Hipcamp enough!

Maria & Timmie are wonderful, kind, authentic individuals who help you to experience something new while also feeling right at home. Every other review was right. This is one of the most serene, unique, and magical places to wake up. We would be lucky to stay here again.

Relaxing by the bayou
Cajun Retreat was a wonderful experience. Relaxing by the bayou, learning how to eat crawfish and blue crab was something I finally get to check off my bucket list. Maria and Timmie are amazing hosts, and it was a great place for a woman traveling alone to feel safe and welcome.
