I will be working hard over the years to bring this back to a healthy stand of mixed hardwoods, full of wildlife habitat, and native vegetation. 2024 saw the start of our EQIP contract which includes killing the non-native invasives, like Tree of Heaven, Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, and more. 2025 was planting, staking, and tubing of 800 tree seedlings, including Black Walnut, Red Oak, Scarlet Oak, Sugar Maple, Persimmon, and Tulip Poplar. Learn more about this land: Enjoy approximately 10 wooded acres while being the only campers on site. Provided are a 4x8 lean-to, outhouse, fire ring, and a spool table. Hiking trails are cut throughout the woods, so feel free to explore. Just stay within the wire fence lines to avoid crossing onto neighboring private lands. The pond is off limits for liability reasons. This is a Federal and State managed Woodland, so please do no harm to any living tree or plant. Feel free to pick up any dead wood for use in the fire ring. (Cut Firewood also provided for free at campsite.) You do have to hike in and out between parking area and campsite. Chesterhill has Ron's Convenience and Restaurant where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is another neat place to eat. No motorcycles on the driveway. You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. This is a 12.5 acre mini farm. We have a garden, bee hive, 30 fruit trees, bamboo, hard wood trees, 4 wheeler trails, a pig, guinea fowl, chickens, ducks, turkeys, cats, and dogs. We are working on a site for a single meat cow too! We have 2 sites, 1 is a trailer and 1 is a camping spot/cabin on top of our mountain. The cabin up there was built in the 60-70’s probably and is a total mess. People are welcome to stay in it if they choose. There is plenty of area for multiple tents near the cabin. The trailer is a basic 1990’s trailer. Everything works in it. There is a furnace, 2 full size beds, a full kitchen and bath. There is a window AC for hot days.

Great site- all the basic needs met. Electric and water hookup. Close to campus/ Athens. Was able to pull up next to a cement slab, which was great since it rained all weekend. Road was close but couldn’t hear traffic inside our camper. Well maintained spot. Definitely plan to come back a few times a year while kid is at OU!!

This was an awesome place to camp! Usually I don't see the host much, but this host was very friendly and accommodating. The site was about 0.25 miles from where our car parked and he brought all of our things there for us in his trailor. He even came back later to help us blow up our air mattress. The land itself was so secluded and really quite. There is a spring with fresh drinking water. You can see so many stars at night too!

Very nice! Cabin was tidy and absolutely lovely for the price it was. It stayed warm all night even with how cold it was. The property was beautiful, plenty of firewood and interesting stuff to see. The owners were very kind! Cows were adorable, and their dog was sweet too. Definitely keep any pets close, because we heard a bunch of coyotes right on the ridge! We got steaks from their little store, which were also great and priced very well. Overall a great trip, just wish we could have stayed longer!

The cabin as your night time ambiance is great for any dark enthusiast. 4 German Shepherds for those lovers of the breed. Having the turkey as your white noice was a great experience. Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp

Wife and I had all we needed at the Nature Camper. Camper has water, hot water, stove, oven, fridge, microwave, and a Solo Firepit on the private deck. Lots of charm inside, more like a tiny house with completely new appliances and birch walls. Best of all you are on 500 private acres. We hiked part of the 10 miles of trails in total privacy. Site also has huge grassy tent area you can expand into with large fire-pit - comes with the camper so no neighbors. Owner’s family goes back to the original log cabin, that is still there off one of the trails. Owner has made his own private preserve, He was interesting, respectful and responsive. Camper pdf had all the details you need. Easy drive to Marietta Ohio River historic areas, shopping, dining, activities, and Wayne NF trails. No cell or WiFi but it comes in as you drive down the road. Unplug and enjoy!

The site is in a lovely area of country: rolling hills, lots of wildlife, and really quiet and peaceful. We went with 4 adults and 5 kids, aged between 7 and 11, and everyone had a great time.

We loved our stay at the A-Frame. It was more secluded than expected which was nice. It is about 1/4 mile from where you park. Logan will help you haul your stuff in his Gator which was super helpful when we were leaving in the rain. We had a peaceful stay and explored Lake Hope State Park, dined at Pleasant Hill Winery, and enjoyed Jennifer's delicious homemade and locally sourced breakfast burritos.

I wish we’d had more time to explore the Appalachian Retreat. It was a lovely and lush piece of land and the little a-frame was very cute and comfortable.
