At 180 acres Glendale Farm in Chimacum, in operation since 1857, is one of the largest single agricultural properties remaining in Jefferson County. The farm includes prime agricultural soils, over half a mile of East Chimacum Creek, and forested areas. The easement protects a buffer zone for salmon and wildlife habitat along the east fork of Chimacum Creek and protects the agricultural and forestry values of the property forever. Jefferson Land Trust and collaborative partners purchased the easement to Insure Glendale farm maintains agricultural practices and wildlife habitat forever! Please be aware this is a working farm with poultry, livestock, and the use of farm equipment providing a great experience for farm life.
Glendale farm experienced a devestating loss in 2022, the primary residence burned down, and since then has been going through an extensive cleanup from an extreme hoarding situation. We recommend using shoes at all times as we are still in the process of combing the grounds for glass and possible sharp objects. You can expect to see old farm equipment, some derelict Rvs, and material debris which we are raising funds to remove. Please be patient with us as we continue to improve the site with future showers, a comunal kitchen, and improved landscaping.
The Glendale Farm is 1/4 mile walk to and from FinnRiver Farms, where you can enjoy cider, beer, live music, delicious snacks each and every weekend! you can check out their seasonal events.

Rusty Ranch Tree Farm offers 110 acres of meadows and forest. Our location provides easy access to much of our local recreation options and is only 10 min east of Bellingham. The camp area is spacious and can easily accommodate your family and even a couple of friends. Scattered trees offer shade, and large grassy areas provide ample space to roam.
Rusty Ranch Tree Farm is dedicated to "Eduction through Exploration" where we strive to provide your family and friends with more than just camping but also a place to experience nature and learn about forestry, farming and making maple syrup from trees right here on our farm..
Hike the several miles of nature trails on the hillside and explore our 65 acres of certified forest. Placards on the nature trail are part of our self-guided tour and provide information about forestry and the plants and animals that call this their home. Wander through the old growth groves, walk the 50' boardwalk and see the magical Fern Ridge. There are abundant wildflowers and seasonal berries to pick, as well as a variety of fall apples and pears in the old orchard available for self harvest. You can even purchase a tree to take home and plant.
Other farm experiences include a guided interactive nature tour for your group, a class on making maple syrup, or experience farm life and "hang with the hens." We also offer the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables brought to your site. Don't forget to stop by the Snack Shack for fresh cinnamon rolls, ice cream bars, snacks, drinks, apparel and locally made gifts.

We are a short 11 minute drive to the North Cascades National Park! During the winter (typically end of November/early December through April/May) part of Highway 20 and driving access to the park is closed. You are still able to get to our dome using Highway 20 as that part is open all year round, but you are unable to access the park. You are able to drive to the entrance, park and snow shoe in if you'd like.
The part of Highway 20 that is closed is on the west side at milepost 134 at the Ross Dam Trailhead and on the east side, at milepost 171 at the Silver Star Gate, near Mazama.
An alternative hiking destination for the winter months is the Rockport State Park which is only a 4 minute drive from the dome. You are able to purchase a day pass on your phone once you arrive.

The cottage was so lovely and had everything we needed! It’s a beautiful property with such fun goats and peacocks. There was tea and coffee, dishes, and utensils available for use. The bed was very comfortable, and it was the perfect getaway.

We went of for the weekend for a port gamble conference. After some research, we came across this lovely place! We absolutely looooooved the peacocks and goats! I would definitely love to visit again! The only thing I would recommend if you stay here through late fall or winter is to pack something warm to sleep in. It didn’t get a little chilly, but other than that, it was a lovely place. ♥️

This is a beautiful spot and a great base for visiting the national park! The indoor and outdoor amenities were great - we appreciated the snacks, ample resources for cooking, and many options for getting warm (2 electric heaters, hot tub, wood fire stove, and outdoor fire pit). You can see the small road from the dome and hear a bit of highway noise, so it's not fully isolated, but that also makes it quick to get back onto the road to head to the trailhead (it took us about 1 hour to get to the Maple Pass Loop). We also checked out the Barr Creek conservation area about 0.25 miles up the road, which has a very pretty little loop trail.

No running water but everything else! The host has this little cottage cozied up with lovely linens, beautiful plants, and a few surprises. The property and surrounding area are beautiful. Great weekend getaway with plenty of dining and shopping a short drive away. Off grid camping leveled up! Thanks for having us!

Weekend Trip to Rusty Ranch Tree Farm and Forest
Had a short stay here last minute in the cabin and it was wonderful! Definitely would love to come back another time for longer so I can explore the property more. The cabin has a top bunk bed and a full sized futon that was actually very comfortable. The bottom bunk is two benches with a table which was nice to eat and play cards on. There is a campfire pit and a compost outhouse which was very clean and nice. A snack shack is available where you can purchase stuff with cash or Venmo. Hope to be back next year!

Words are utterly useless in describing our time on Margaret’s property, but I’ll try. Margaret is exceptional; great hospitality, active communicator, and such a sweet soul.
The property is astounding, well maintained, and incredibly family friendly. My daughter was obsessed with the farm life, that was the highlight every morning and evening. Perfect location for meandering towards Mount Baker or wanting to enjoy the perks along HWY 20; nothing was too far in my opinion. We explored Bellingham and Vancouver BC. Our nana is visiting and we always take her to new places around WA.
The add on options were a delight; we enjoyed the salmon and cinnamon rolls. The playgrounds were a perfect spot to wind down after a long day. The privy’s were impeccable and maintained daily. This did not feel like camping. The cabin is cozy and perfect for our small group.
We cannot wait to return. Thank you Margaret for absolutely everything.

Taking the boys here was quite literally the best decision I’ve made all summer. I have two young boys and one is very sensitive. The little cabin we rented was made for him! He mentioned over and over how safe he felt and how much fun he was having. The best compliment a mom can get is “this is the best day ever”.
Margaret was a dream. She welcomed us like family and gave us lots of local tips. On the property, there’s a little mini golf setup that we had fun playing, two playgrounds, two game shacks, lots of clearly carved out trails, TONS of artistic details around the property to find, and we ended every night with a treat at the snack shack. We spent the whole ride home, planning our next visit to the tree farm. Margaret, thank you for providing this beautiful space to create memories. I’ll fall asleep tonight with a full and happy heart ❤️

Laughing Leaf Cottage was a 20/10! The hosts are incredibly welcoming and communicative in their messages but also very respectful of your personal privacy!
The cottage itself was a beautifully decorated and curated space…felt very cozy and serene. The outside of the cottage was very private and though you couldn’t see the main house you could still see all the gorgeous gardens and the goats/peacocks. The outside area also had a cute and shaded picnic table along with a beautiful secluded small deck with a fire pit and chairs all overlooking the green ferns and forest. The area was quiet and peaceful and I will 100 percent be back. Had a wonderful time.

we had such a nice stay here!! beautiful quiet property, comfy cozy cottage, and the sweetest hosts. we would absolutely stay again and recommend to anyone who is looking for a lowkey way to spend a few nights away from the noise, and still be near all the fun port cities. even our dog had the best time, meeting all the animals and relaxing in the grass. very peaceful :)

A wonderful 1-night stay in the rustic cabin, enjoying the farm and sunset on day 1, and the forest trails on day 2. Pleasantly surprised by the horses and an up close meeting with an owl. The hostess was super friendly and responsive to a few questions as I got settled in. The outhouse was spotless and the self-guided trails on this tree farm spot on for kids to weekend explorers. Have already talked this little gem outside B'ham up!
