Secluded Basecamp Beside Hanging Rock State Park (Moore’s Knob / Moore’s Wall) Tucked quietly along the edge of Hanging Rock State Park near the Tory’s Den access, this primitive campsite at 1140 Tomahawk Rd, Westfield, NC puts you right at the doorstep of Moore’s Knob and Moore’s Wall. From the Tory’s Den parking lot, you’ll follow Tory’s Den Road all the way up a rugged dirt road to reach the property. The last stretch is rough and narrow in spots, so you’ll want to be comfortable on mountain dirt roads and ideally have 4WD with some clearance. When you arrive, a roundabout dirt driveway opens into a private clearing with a 20' x 20' flat pad—perfect for tent camping or a small overland setup. The land was recently cleared, so it still has a raw, backcountry feel: expect stumps, roots, and uneven ground around the main flat pad, not a manicured campground. It’s quiet, heavily wooded, and feels like your own little slice of the Sauratown Mountains. The real magic is the access: it’s roughly a 200-yard walk through the woods to reach Moore’s Knob Trail, and you’re less than a mile from the base of Moore’s Wall, with all of Hanging Rock’s views, rock outcrops, and classic hiking right at hand. Wake up, brew coffee, and you can be on the trail to Moore’s Knob in minutes without ever getting back in your vehicle. On the property there is an old, abandoned cabin from a previous era. It is not safe or usable—for your safety and liability reasons, do not enter or touch the cabin or attempt to explore inside. Learn more about this land: Fall asleep to hooting owls and the gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank your campsite. Wake up with a dip in the river or a morning hike in the woods. Feel the hug of the mountains throughout your stay, while also having access to Blacksburg nearby should you need it.  DIRECTIONS: Upon entry the gravel road is shared with my neighbor and it is about 1.5 miles from the entry gate to the site. You'll enter thru a gate (it may be closed, if closed please close behind you as my neighbor sometimes has cows). Go approx 1 mile the road will split...go up the hill on the right. Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line. Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit. About the property 20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.  Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.  Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.  This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person. I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.  About the listing Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. As you fall asleep, listen to the occasional hoot of an owl, howl of a coyote, and gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank the campsite. Our farm is vast and sparse, focusing on sustainability while giving back to the community. We are a safe haven for animals and humans alike. Situated on and between two peaks of Little Phoenix Mountain range in Jefferson Ashe County. Our sites’ altitudes range from 3100 feet to over 3600 feet, which is a lot of slope and hillside to say the least. As a guest you will be offered insane long views and limited exposure to the oldest registered breed of bovine in the world. Our Scottish Highland Cattle are majestic and fit in quite well in the NC mountainside. Located in the Blue Ridge mountains, we have natural water springs popping out, some of which are tapped to drink from. (10.1.23 currently farm springs are not accessible to guests, shatley springs up the road approx 4miles north has a public spring that we highly recommend) If you are looking for a camping spot that is only 5-10 minutes from town (Jefferson NC or the quaint Downtown West Jefferson) but feels like you're in the middle of no where, then we have it! The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 20 minutes away and the New River equally close. Looking Forward: July update. We are currently working on provided an all downhill mountain bike trail from 3600 to 3150ft. This path will be double wide for the most part and wide open at first to soak in the se view. Come enjoy the beautiful landscape of the western mountains in Ashe County, NC on ninety acres of farmland and forest surrounded by mountain peaks, the New River and breathtaking sunsets. On the drive in, to the southeast you can see Peak Mountain for which the property was named. The mountain is part of the New River State Park and is known for its scenic river views and hiking trails. Two RV buddy campsites are available on the property. Campsite #1 was originally created for our personal use. Campsite #2, so our fellow camping buddies could join us. Although a short drive from our homes, the serenity of the property always makes us feel as if we’ve travelled many miles. Campsites are laid out in an ‘L’ shape which creates the perfect group camping experience. Guests can choose to camp alone or invite others. Campsite 1 and 2 are reserved together as one booking due to the close proximity of the sites. The property is secluded, but easily accessible. Campsites are full hookups which include water, sewer and 50 amp electric. Both sites can accommodate any size RV. They are gravel and level which makes getting set up easy. A 30 x 30 shelter with concrete floor, lights, picnic tables and trash bin is nearby, which is a great asset in any weather. A fire pit and chairs are a nice addition for evening enjoyment. Firewood is provided. WiFi is available. The area is pet friendly. Pets can be off leash, however, you might consider leashing your pet, as wildlife is frequently seen. If your furry friend is anything like our dogs, the chase is on when a deer, squirrel or turkey makes a sudden appearance! During your stay, take a 7/10 mile walk down to the New River. Pull up one of the chairs on the small covered deck overlooking the river, sit back and take in the sounds of the calming waters. Watch floaters, kayakers and canoe navigators pass by or enjoy your own floating, fishing and swimming. On the other side of the river is part of the New River State Park. A 15 minute drive will take you to downtown West Jefferson for restaurants and shopping. Secluded Basecamp Beside Hanging Rock State Park (Moore’s Knob / Moore’s Wall) Tucked quietly along the edge of Hanging Rock State Park near the Tory’s Den access, this primitive campsite at 1140 Tomahawk Rd, Westfield, NC puts you right at the doorstep of Moore’s Knob and Moore’s Wall. From the Tory’s Den parking lot, you’ll follow Tory’s Den Road all the way up a rugged dirt road to reach the property. The last stretch is rough and narrow in spots, so you’ll want to be comfortable on mountain dirt roads and ideally have 4WD with some clearance. When you arrive, a roundabout dirt driveway opens into a private clearing with a 20' x 20' flat pad—perfect for tent camping or a small overland setup. The land was recently cleared, so it still has a raw, backcountry feel: expect stumps, roots, and uneven ground around the main flat pad, not a manicured campground. It’s quiet, heavily wooded, and feels like your own little slice of the Sauratown Mountains. The real magic is the access: it’s roughly a 200-yard walk through the woods to reach Moore’s Knob Trail, and you’re less than a mile from the base of Moore’s Wall, with all of Hanging Rock’s views, rock outcrops, and classic hiking right at hand. Wake up, brew coffee, and you can be on the trail to Moore’s Knob in minutes without ever getting back in your vehicle. On the property there is an old, abandoned cabin from a previous era. It is not safe or usable—for your safety and liability reasons, do not enter or touch the cabin or attempt to explore inside. Treat it like a posted structure and enjoy it only as part of the scenery. Learn more about this land: Fall asleep to hooting owls and the gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank your campsite. Wake up with a dip in the river or a morning hike in the woods. Feel the hug of the mountains throughout your stay, while also having access to Blacksburg nearby should you need it.  DIRECTIONS: Upon entry the gravel road is shared with my neighbor and it is about 1.5 miles from the entry gate to the site. You'll enter thru a gate (it may be closed, if closed please close behind you as my neighbor sometimes has cows). Go approx 1 mile the road will split...go up the hill on the right. Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line. Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit. About the property 20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.  Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.  Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.  This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person. I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.  About the listing Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. As you fall asleep, listen to the occasional hoot of an owl, howl of a coyote, and gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank the campsite. Milk weed and butterfly attractants will bloom in the coming month on sunrise mountain and it’s looking good! Our farm is vast and sparse, focusing on sustainability while giving back to the community. We are a safe haven for animals and humans alike. Situated on and between two peaks of Little Phoenix Mountain range in Jefferson Ashe County. Our sites’ altitudes range from 3100 feet to over 3600 feet, which is a lot of slope and hillside to say the least. As a guest you will be offered insane long views and limited exposure to the oldest registered breed of bovine in the world. Our Scottish Highland Cattle are majestic and fit in quite well in the NC mountainside. Located in the Blue Ridge mountains, we have natural water springs popping out, some of which are tapped to drink from. (10.1.23 currently farm springs are not accessible to guests, shatley springs up the road approx 4miles north has a public spring that we highly recommend) If you are looking for a camping spot that is only 5-10 minutes from town (Jefferson NC or the quaint Downtown West Jefferson) but feels like you're in the middle of no where, then we have it! The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 20 minutes away and the New River equally close. Looking Forward: July update. We are currently working on provided an all downhill mountain bike trail from 3600 to 3150ft. This path will be double wide for the most part and wide open at first to soak in the se view. Campsite 1 and 2 are reserved together as one booking due to the close proximity of the sites. The property is secluded, but easily accessible. Campsites are full hookups which include water, sewer and 50 amp electric. Both sites can accommodate any size RV. They are gravel and level which makes getting set up easy. A 30 x 30 shelter with concrete floor, lights, picnic tables and trash bin is nearby, which is a great asset in any weather. A fire pit and chairs are a nice addition for evening enjoyment. Firewood is provided. WiFi is available. The area is pet friendly. Pets can be off leash, however, you might consider leashing your pet, as wildlife is frequently seen. If your furry friend is anything like our dogs, the chase is on when a deer, squirrel or turkey makes a sudden appearance! During your stay, take a 7/10 mile walk down to the New River. Pull up one of the chairs on the small covered deck overlooking the river, sit back and take in the sounds of the calming waters. Watch floaters, kayakers and canoe navigators pass by or enjoy your own floating, fishing and swimming. On the other side of the river is part of the New River State Park. A 15 minute drive will take you to downtown West Jefferson for restaurants and shopping. I wish we could’ve stayed longer! We were running behind schedule and arrived after dark, then had to leave before sunrise, so we didn’t get to take in the views. But the signs and string lights guiding us into the campground were such a welcoming sight after a long day on the road and pulling in so late. We’ll definitely be back to enjoy the campground properly!

rivers edge trail was beautiful! the site was clean, easy to find and the views were gorgeous. hookups were straight forward and full service, which we appreciated. there is a bit of junk around and there’s a house very close, so not private, but it looks like they’re still building the sites so we didn’t mind. we will definitely stay again!

If a "back to nature" primitive camping experience is what you seek, this is the best place to do it! You'll have 47 acres of mature woods, with rolling meadow, some hills, fresh springs, and a wide creek in beautiful Grayson Co, VA. Best of all, you will have lots of privacy and a spectacular star-filled sky on clear nights. Even though the property is located less than ten miles from the nearest town, here there is peace and quiet. Feel free to explore the entire property and enjoy the freedom to pitch your camp at the location that suits you! Perhaps you like the sound of a babbling creek and will want to set up camp at the flat along the creek; or perhaps you want to see the amazing view from the very top of the hill and camp there...or nestle your site in the beautiful meadow in between. The choice is yours. Expect to hike into forest and through tall grasses; there's even a bit of rock you can climb if you wish. Overall elevation change from the bottom lands to the very top of the hill is about +210 feet. Plenty of flatter land in-between. If exploring 47 acres isn't enough to keep you busy, it's a ten minute drive to the New River access where you can canoe, kayak, fish or swim. Or head into town and pick up a book at the local book shop. Access to the property will require a 4WD vehicle, or you may simply park by the entrance at the road and just hike it in. There are no amenities here, and the property often has vegetation (taller grasses) which you might want to cut to make your own site, which is allowed. Photos show what others have done in previous seasons to clear a space for camping. Campsites are generally not cleared of grass as shown. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.

One loft bedroom, huge bathroom with a walk in shower and a soaking bathtub, while looking at a gorgeous creek, 20 ft away. A hot tub sits on the rear ground level deck. Kitchen with two coffee makers, microwave, full size refridge stovetop, air fryer, toaster oven and a kettle. This yurt is great for a couple or a couple with a small child, I provide a blowup mattress, twin size with linens.. The yurt faces the creek, and a rock wall on the other side making this property very private except for our cabin on the same property. It is fenced with split rail fencing and has a solar powered gate, with a gate fob provided. We are dog friendly, with a $25 pet fee per stay. This is a safe, beautiful area to visit nearby Floyd, a nearby kayak rental shuttle service, breweries, a meadery 2 miles away, and many other unique finds. Beautiful Mountain View’s and backwoods drive. A unique wool farm is just down the dirt road with a cash only roadside stand.
