Sharp's Island is so named because the Sharp family of Richmond owned it as far back as the 1850s. The old brick foundation you see in the pictures is all that remains of a house that was built on the island in 1895 and stood for 75 years! We consider ourselves stewards of an amazing historic, ecological, geologic, and recreational asset, and we would love to have you add your story to this island's long history!

One-of-a-kind really only begins to describe 1-acre Sharp's Island! For starters, this is the only legal camping option in the city of Richmond. You read that correctly. This is your own private island, and it's right in the heart of downtown RVA! The Piedmont meets the Coastal Plain right here at Sharp's Island. That makes for amazing fishing, especially during the spring shad and striper runs.
Some other incredible things about camping at Sharp's Island: You can motor up to it from Ancarrow's Landing, canoe over from the trail just below Mayo Bridge, or make this the destination for your downriver raft/kayak trip; at summer river levels there are oodles of great swimming holes along the banks; fire pit ready and waiting for you. At days end you can go to concerts or “clubbing” in town or return to Billyville and enjoy the quiet, peaceful ambiance of a campfire under a starlit sky.
Check-Ins and Arrival Instructions:
Check-ins on weekdays are dependent on my work schedule. If this is your first time at Billyville, I need to be on property to guide you into your site. Please reach out before your stay so we can coordinate. If I am off on that day, check-in is after 1pm. If I am working, it will be after 5pm and occasionally after 7. I am currently testing out some procedures to allow self check-in. We'll see how that pans out.
Anyway, to get to Billyville:
Turn onto Bells Lane. (Dirt Road). You'll see a white fence on your left down the lane about .2 miles. Just after the fence, you'll see a red sign at the beginning of a rope fence. Turn off Bells Lane just after the sign and follow the fence, keeping it on you left.

At days end you can go to concerts or “clubbing” in town or return to Billyville and enjoy the quiet, peaceful ambiance of a campfire under a starlit sky.
Check-Ins and Arrival Instructions:
Check-ins on weekdays are dependent on my work schedule. If this is your first time at Billyville, I need to be on property to guide you into your site. Please reach out before your stay so we can coordinate. If I am off on that day, check-in is after 1pm. If I am working, it will be after 5pm and occasionally after 7. I am currently testing out some procedures to allow self check-in. We'll see how that pans out.
Anyway, to get to Billyville:
Turn onto Bells Lane. (Dirt Road). You'll see a white fence on your left down the lane about .2 miles. Just after the fence, you'll see a red sign at the beginning of a rope fence. Turn off Bells Lane just after the sign and follow the fence, keeping it on you left.

Weekend Trip to Riverdale Farms
We had a great overnight camp at Site 1. There is plenty of flat ground to setup for multiple vehicles/campers. The river access is super nice, with concrete steps down to the river at each site. Dan was very accommodating and a genuinely nice guy. We will return soon!

This was such a cool skoolie! I surprised my son with an "adventure" on our way home from FL. This was a hit! Cozy. Nice land. I saw a family of 11 deer! And my little dog loved the nature walk. Nice warm bathroom at the house. Private, clean and warm.
I think we loved the little wood-burning stove the best! My son (22) slept in the bedroom which was like a quiet cocoon. I slept on the pullout couch which was way bigger than I expected and mostly comfortable. Everything was easy to use, especially with the handy "welcome" booklet. I would definitely stay again.

Robert's site was as advertised. Super privacy, full hookups. Robert was there to meet us, blowing leaves and putting things in tip-top shape for our stay. We enjoyed the firepit (bought some wood from him) and spent the day exploring Mineral (a couple of consignment shops, 53rd Winery--awesome--and Tim's Restaurant on the lake). This place is just under an hour from our home and great for quick getaways. It's on our list to do again!

What a charming and peaceful property! They have the sweetest animals and a beautiful garden. It was nice to have a restroom and shower nearby. Great spacious camp site. We really appreciated the canopy that was set up for us because the sun was hot during the day, and there was plenty of firewood available to keep us warm at night. Karen made us feel so welcome and made sure we had everything we needed, including jumper cables when one of our cars wouldn’t start. AMAZING spot for stargazing!

The campground itself is situated right on the river with a very thoughtful set of steps leading down to a beachy area. Plenty of space to set up tents and have designated areas for games, cooking, etc.
The host was super welcoming and brought a load of firewood out to us to make sure we had a comfortable stay. We will absolutely be coming back.

I really enjoyed my stay at this campsite. The area was very clean and well-maintained, and the host was friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. I especially loved spending time fishing — the spot is peaceful and relaxing, perfect for unwinding outdoors.
The only downside was noticing that quite a few trees have been cut down since my last visit. It’s still a beautiful place, but it doesn’t feel quite as shaded or natural as before. Overall, though, it remains a great location for camping, relaxing, and enjoying nature. I’d definitely come back again.

Had a nice relaxing week at Robert’s site with my son who had just returned from USAF tech school. Everything was configured perfectly with plenty of room for my 30ft camper, and the site was private and quiet. Amenities included nightly deer visits. Robert was very responsive with all communications and was a fantastic host. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Lake Anna.

I would highly recommend Billyville to other Hip campers. Our Host Billy was very quick to respond in messages from the very start. Upon arrival, we were greeted friendly and felt welcomed.
The site is very quiet. We really enjoyed the serenity of an evening fire under the starlit sky.
Billy had got our fire ready to light. All we had to do was light it. Very nice.
The entrance is down a one lane road. Well maintained. Very easy to navigate. We have a 31 foot 5th wheel (13’ high), and had no problems getting in. Billy met us and guided us into our spot. It is a big pull thru.
The site is grassy. Not muddy. Easy to level. Set up with a fire ring, a picnic table, and two Adirondack chairs. There is a 30 amp plug. We have 2 dogs. And was surprised to hear Billy had just finished creating a dog run.
On the property is the Bandshell. Where Billy puts on concerts with other talented musicians. So it being Labor Day weekend, we got to enjoy a concert.
If you’re looking for a very quiet place to stay, this is it.
