My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. Whisper Creek was founded in 1999. It has been the gathering place for many great friends and camping adventures. WC can hardly be camping, more like Glamping! This is a very private and quiet location. You can settle in knowing that this listing includes a covered picnic area. Which has counter space for food prep and cooking that includes a small sink. But remember, it’s camping so you’ll need to come prepared with a camp stove for cooking, although I do have charcoal and propane grill’s at the picnic area. Fire pit for awesome evening camp fires with free split firewood on hand. All I ask is that you burn it like you split and stacked it. You can gather and relax under the covered picnic area for dinner preparation and/or lounging. We are located within an hour from Wintergreen, numerous wineries, craft beer locations and numerous hiking destinations. Harmony Hut has fresh linens but please bring sleeping bags and/or sheets for the screened in bunkhouse. River access to the James River is a short drive to Howardsville. There you will also find a General Store which offers you the basics, such as Beer, Wine, Ice and a few grocery items. They make the best homemade sandwiches and grilled burgers. Direct river access can be provided via special request. I can also provide shuttling services. But this needs to be mentioned well before your stay as I don't live up there year around.

Peace like a river, love like a mountain Wintergreen Resort we’re not, but if you’re looking for a cozy (800-900 sq. ft.) mountain cabin with most of the comforts of home, Rocky Run Landing might be the place for you. Our motto is “You’re a long way away from it all before you ever get here.” Rocky Run Landing sits back in a loblolly pine grove just under the crest of Hawk Ridge in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cabin is two miles up the Tye River from the village of Norwood and the James River in southern Nelson County, Virginia. The address is 3124 Cedar Creek Road, Arrington, VA 22922. The cabin has a telephone, but no long distance service. Your calling card will work with this phone. You’ll have to find just the right spot to use your cell phone. Wireless internet is available via satellite. Rocky Run Landing consists of a small first-floor bedroom, a small loft bedroom, a bath and a half, kitchen/dining area, and a great room. The great room has two sleep futons, chairs, and a small TV/DVR with cable. A wood stove is also in the great room. The small kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, deep sink, gas range, coffeemaker, and microwave oven. A dining table and four chairs are provided, along with basic pots, pans, and tableware. Rocky Run Landing has central HVAC, but often all you need are the ceiling and pedestal fans. The best experience is al fresco! The small first floor bedroom features a queen bed, nightstand and lamp, and a chest of drawers. Bed linens, blankets, pillows, and towels are also provided. The half-bath is off this bedroom and adjoins the full bath. Electric wall heaters provide auxiliary heat in the bedroom and bathrooms. The bedroom also has a couple of very small closets, which are the only clothes closets in the cabin. The staircase to the small loft is very steep and is not recommended for older guests or the very young. The loft is furnished with a double bed. A hiking trail and a gravel road will take you the 1/3-mile to the Tye River, but be warned — both are steep. You’ll need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to drive to the river. You’ll need good legs to walk back to the cabin. By the riverside you'll find a well-groomed recreation area with picnic tables shaded by a canopy of white ash and river birch, a fire ring, and, in the summer, even a porta-potty. A 'beach' is cleared to the river. At normal water levels, this spot on the Tye is appropriate for supervised child's play and for adult water recreation. Fishing is also fine! History has it that the Tye River was Teddy Roosevelt's favorite fishing stream. Rocky Run Landing is a good location to either begin or end a paddling or tubing trip on the Tye/James Rivers. A canoe is available for rental and your hosts can assist with planning river trips from one-half mile to 20 miles (overnight). Shuttle service is included with canoe rental. Tubes are also available for a lazy drift downstream. Charcoal grills may be requested for use at the cabin or in the riverside picnic area (guests provide charcoal). The screened porch offers a serene view of Buffalo Ridge to the south across the river (if the leaves aren't too thick). Turn on the porch ceiling fans, relax in the porch swing, and whistle back to the whippoorwills. As the evening gets quiet, let the roar of the Tye River rapids lull you to sleep. If you decide you’d like to forgo seclusion and venture into the outside world during your stay, many places of interest are within a day trip of Rocky Run Landing. Jeffersonian and other historic properties abound, Civil War sites are easily accessible, Wintergreen Resort offers a variety of activities, and kid-friendly excursions are within kid-tolerance driving distance. Your hosts will be happy to recommend itineraries based on your interests and will check with Wintergreen to ensure any desired activity is available. Many wineries, breweries, and cideries are also in the area, along with local artisan shops. Weekend Trip to Private Lakefront Camp Free Kayaks

We loved our stay at the private pavilion! We opted to use it as our shelter, so we could easily keep our dogs enclosed. All the animals are friendly, the lakeside is beautiful, our fresh eggs were delicious. Friendly & welcoming host, although I felt terrible my dogs barked at him every time he tried to come by to say hello. We’d definitely love to stay again!

We've taken weekends at this yurt 3 of the past 4 summers and loved it every time. We find it peaceful and our young kids like the stream, poultry, campfires, and composting toilet lol. I'd recommend taking a hammock when you go, lots of great spots in the forest for it.

I loved all of the farm, from the river walking to the trails. It was such a beautiful time. Would recommend it to anybody. Amy is the most pleasant person who welcomed me since the beginning.

Weekend Trip to Hawthorn Hollar

Moon and Julie were wonderful hosts. I had booked the weekend of the 4th of july and unfortunately the week before a heat wave was announced to roll in. My group decided to not cancel the trip and give it a shot, but 1 night outside with a heat index of 110 was too much, and we called the trip short. The hosts were very understanding and even refunded the second day, which according to the terms of our booking they absolutely were not required to do. I knew the risk when I accepted the booking. The campground itself is very beautiful and I plan on returning during better weather early this fall. I highly recommend this place. Also, as a bonus I learned that Moon is an avid reader so we had plenty to talk about, as I am a literature nerd myself.

3 nights at Rocky Run Landing

We fully enjoyed our 3 night stay at Rocky Run Cabin. Very private location tucked into the woods with great access to the Tye River. I managed to catch a few panfish a found some spectacular souvenir rocks among the gravels. Birding was eventful and we added a few new birds to our list, Summer Tanager, Indigo Bunting, and Eastern Phobe. The large screened in porch came in handy on the rainy days, super peaceful and quiet. Hope to stay again and Thank you.

2 nights at Shireton

WOW! We spent our 1 year anniversary here. We are major Lord of the Rings fans and it was so cool to feel immersed and escape the daily routine. So cozy and a comfortable place to stay. The bed was so comfortable!! That copper tub was a dream. Loved making a fire and there was no shortage of firewood. The hosts were very kind, would absolutely stay here again. P.S. All of the props were SO COOL!! we had so much fun taking pictures with them!! Thanks guys!

Weekend Trip to Smith Farm

It was such an amazing space. We stayed in the trailer and could hear the animals and see a million stars. As someone who's dreamed of her own eventual farm, meeting the donkeys was the best!! Great to have a cozy and clean place to stay. The only drawback was the actual bedroom. The main had a small bed and no dresser or anything to put stuff on and one small nightstand. Nothing that would stop me from coming back though!

Weekend Trip to Hawthorn Hollar

Our Easter weekend stay was the perfect setting for my kids' first camping trip. The owners are wonderful, hardworking people who made us feel very welcome. We spent most of our time at the pond catching over a dozen bass and bluegill, and the kids lived in the hammock! The cabin is awesome and provides a true off-grid experience; since there’s no power, I'd recommend bringing a generator if you need electricity. We’ll definitely be back!

2 nights at Hawthorn Hollar

Our stay was amazing! We were only there for two nights but we left feeling so rested we joked we stayed for a week. Our children LOVED the fields, pond, fishing and canoeing, and the trails. And our city dog was a whole new version of herself! Moon and Julie are the most gracious hosts and their space is full of life and rest! Our time there was a gift. We can’t wait to go back!

What stood out is the unique creativity and layout of the place. Pretty straight forward check in aside from not having a fridge I was using my rig which was close to the fire pit while we grilled. 10/10 experience

This place is an absolute GEM! I was expecting a small cabin but was greatly surprised! Spacious screened in porch, full bathroom with shower and a kitchen that had everything we needed. The beach area was clean and peaceful; definitely recommend having 4-wheel drive coming up the road. Our large dogs (60lbs & 40lbs) were comfortable, plenty of room to walk them.
