Bent Apple Farm

5 sites · Lodging100 acres · Londonderry, VT
Often described as being the most relaxing, romantic, dreamy and unique farm you'll ever stay in!!! Bent apple farm is natures perfect scape, thanks to my husband and I efforts to create a sanctuary to share with others. From apple trees, beautiful pond and a rustic cabins. Our farm is at the edge of VT natural forest, with often gifts us the visit of wild deers, moose and turkeys. Our property has 5 cabins total that give a small little village feel to it, but spaced enough that each has its privacy. This quiet piece of heaven is our little treasure, built and cared by us to share with you. Instagram: @bentapplefarm You’ll need 4x4 car in the winter time.

Villino Totemsin | cabin

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Fairlee, VT
Villino Totemsin is a mid-century modern cabin in the Vermont woods. It sits on one acre that backs up to trails that lead to the town forest. 600 acre Lake Morey and the Connecticut and Ompompanusuc river are also very close by. Hiking is close by as well as many swimming holes in summer, ice skating and skiing in winter. "...reminded us of the tents of the Persian kings." —The Zahari Family "We fell in love over and over again." —Arax & Julia "We spent a remote work week. Phenomenal." —James "Definitely a destination." —Stephanie "The blue print of a good time." —Lindsey "Hands down, my most favorite, EVER." —Miranda "Words do not do your sanctuary justice." —Kirsten "An absolute magic maker." —Victor & Jonathan Welcome. This timber frame home was constructed using entire trees, harvested from the property, they stand, like totem poles, visually joining the surrounding woods. The south-facing, wall of glass window blurs the boundary between inside and out. It's like living inside the Nature Channel, in a reverse snow globe, surrounded by weather, but cozy, inside. ENTRY You will arrive via a long driveway which is plowed in the snowy season. Flagstone steps lead from the parking area to the keyless front door: life is relaxed and safe here in the woods! You will enter through the mudroom/entryway where you will be greeted in funky style by original art and vintage finds, and you will climb another eight steps to the main floor of the house. LIVING/DINING SPACE Open concept, cathedral ceiling, spacious with light from floor to ceiling, South-facing windows, the rustic touch of locally milled wide pine and oak floors made from the property’s own timber, 2 stone fireplaces. Delight in the unique decorations of original art, collections of curious objects, masks, sculptures, etc. Note: Guests are not permitted to use the fireplaces (it’s a brute timber home, so no open flame!). KITCHEN The fully equipped kitchen opens onto the living/dining space across a granite countertop/bar. You will find everything you need to cook using the gas range and double oven. The refrigerator has space available for your food. Note: There is no dishwasher, sink washing is part of the rustic lifestyle! A small kitchenette (microwave and small refrigerator) is upstairs in a small room on the loft. SLEEPING SPACES The Villa offers multiple options for sleeping, both private and semi-private; please read descriptions carefully and consult pictures for layout details. The loft area has its own full size bed, a private toilet, a small kitchenette with microwave, coffee maker and mini fridge, and the piece de resistance: a two-sided, 6 ft claw foot bathtub tucked behind surrounding plants and folding screens to create the privacy you seek while taking advantage of main room’s picture windows and commanding view. HOT TUB There is a hot tub on site, but I've had issues with it, recently. Currently, I'm working through solving it, so it may or may not be available. If you are interested, please ask, but understand that it is a work in process. Thanks. If available, the outdoor hot tub is available for an additional one time per booking fee of $50.00. The tub is 6 feet across and especially delightful when unwinding from an outdoor adventure. Just ask in advance so it can be ready for your arrival! SAUNA The Finnish (steam) sauna is available by prior arrangement for $35. Note: The main living room has a beautiful Japanese sitting tub that is not currently available for use. MASSAGE For relaxation: Swedish massage. For more specific or stress related issues: deep tissue massage. Professional masseuse. Inquire for rates. HEAT Central heat is via thermostat controlled propane hot air. There are additional space heaters available for use throughout the house. CLEANLINESS & HYGIENE Please note that as a timber home in the woods, partially heated with wood, dust is inevitable, even though the house is thoroughly swept, mopped, vacuumed between each guest visit. TOILET The toilet is a septic system: only human waste and toilet paper may go into it. Other materials can damage the system and cost thousands of dollars to repair. Please, be thoughtful with the delicate septic system! There is no washer/dryer available for guest use in the house. There is a laundromat in Fairlee, just a few minutes drive if needed. Linens are washed/changed for between each guest visit. Pillows and bedspreads may be different from what appears in the photos. The cleaning fee covers laundering of linens and routine cleaning. An extra fee will be assessed in the event of unwashed dishes, damage repair, non-routine messes, etc. SHOWERS There are two "in tub", European style showers, with each of the bathtubs (Sky Suite and Red room, see pictures.). Also, there is a warm season outdoor shower, near the hot tub. Soon, I hope to install a walk-in shower, in the main floor bathroom, but it is not there, yet. The owner kindly requests no smoking of anything in the house and no heavy perfume use, please. PETS Pets are only accepted after my approval. Please ask me before bringing a pet. Following check in, guests can come and go as they wish. Check in time: 5pm or later, unless arranged. Check out time: 10am, unless arranged. Some personal rooms will be closed off, in the house. Please do not enter the personal spaces listed here: small bedroom off the fireroom (behind curtains and sliding doors), a work room behind the kitchen. ---------------------------- "You really just have to see this place for yourself. It's unlike anywhere I've been. The views from inside were absolutely outstanding. The sound of rain on the tin roof is serene, and you can clearly hear the pleasant sounds of the owls outside at night." —Dan "It was inspiring to be immersed in it while reconnecting with our own creativity." —Marie "We were able to watch the stars and the clear sky in the hot tub at night. It’s absolutely amazing. " —Sherry "Thank you for this not ordinary house." —Arax & Julia

River, stream, or creek camping in Vermont with hot tubs guide

Overview

Known for its colorful fall foliage, wilderness lakes, and scenic camping areas, Vermont is an outdoor lover's playground. From camping, hiking, fishing, and boating in summer to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and downhill skiing in winter, the state has something for every kind of adventure traveler. Here you'll find over 50 state parks, a vast network of trails including portions of the Appalachian Trail, and 400,000 acres of protected lands in the Green Mountain National Forest. Choose from hundreds of camping sites to pitch a tent, park an RV, or book a backcountry cabin.

Where to go

Lake Champlain

Often referred to as the sixth Great Lake, Lake Champlain is a huge freshwater lake flanked by the Green Mountains and the Adriondacks. Nearly half of the lake is in Vermont, parts of it are also in New York and Quebec, and it's known for boating, sea kayaking, swimming, and an array of camping experiences. Campers will find a variety of options near Lake Champlain from RV sites with full hookups and dump stations, and glamping sites near Burlington and St. Alban, to state parks with tent sites right on the lakeshore of Grand Isle and Burton Island.

The Northeast Kingdom

The northeast corner of Vermont is the state's wildest and most remote region, filled with world-class mountain biking trails and challenging hiking trails. Several state parks dot the area, including some with the northeast's most charming campgrounds: Brighton State Park, where you'll find lakeside camping and waterfront cabins, and Maidstone State Park, a favorite among fishermen.

Green Mountain National Forest

Featuring rolling hills of dense forest and some of the best fall foliage shows in the northeast, Green Mountain National Forest is one of Vermont's top outdoor destinations. Hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing weave through the Green Mountains along with nearly a dozen national forest campgrounds and day-use areas.

When to go

Summer is the best time for camping, hiking, kayaking, and paddling in Vermont. Most Vermont state parks are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, although some parks are open through the second Monday in October and others open earlier and stay open later. Fall is especially lovely, when the leaves turn vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow—catch the show in late September in the northern part of the state or mid-October in the south. Ski season typically runs from December through March.

Know before you go

  1. Vermont State Park reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance. Reservations can be made online, by calling the state park's reservations center, or by calling the park directly (during open season).
  2. Many Vermont State Parks have "lean-to" campsites featuring a 3-sided structure that can shelter campers from wind and help keep gear dry. Some campers set up tents inside the lean-to, and others just use it for cooking and staying dry.
  3. Some Green Mountain National Forest and Groton State Forest campgrounds can be reserved ahead of time online. Plenty of first-come, first-served campsites are also available.
