When you stay in our dome on the farm with an enormous pool, not only do you get to experience something new and exciting, you also have access to so many fun things to do! The coolest part? The top is transparent, so you can fall asleep wishing on a star. This dome is anchored to a sturdy wooden deck. There is a retractable awning that covers each dome reducing the green-house effect during the daytime and can be opened to reveal the beautiful skyline during the day or the wonderous starlit sky at night. Inside you’ll find a cozy king bed and a trundle that can comfortably sleep up to four guests. There is air conditioning and heating inside as well as a full private bathroom. The bathroom even has a clawfoot tub! Toiletries are provided for you during your stay. The dome is located in Sam Houston National Forest on a beautiful ranchette of almost 8 acres. On the ranchette you’ll be able to see chickens, turkeys (seasonal), goats, pigs, rabbits, and a garden near the home as well as livestock grazing in the pastures. Wildlife is present in the forest, so there are some food restrictions inside the dome to keep you safe. (See “rules to keep in mind”) A pathway that is clear during the day and perfectly lit for your convenience at night takes you directly to a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. There, you will have access to a BBQ pit, an outdoor pavilion, pool, hot tub, and pool house. Tired of the city ordinances that restricted raising fouls, I decided to look for an acreage that is not too far nor too close to the city and which allowed the raising of farm animals. As of this writing, we have 2 beautiful heifers, 18 sheep, and colorful giant kois in the pond that once in a while can be seen when they swim near the surface. We built a log cabin in the 17-acre property in preparation for downsizing when the boys go to to college. But when our neighbors had to move back to England, they sold us their house and 11-acre land. With the cabin on the 17-acre now vacant, we decided to open it for camping (on the land) or renting out the log cabin after building the 2-acre pond. Learn more about this land: Stay in the log cabin, or pitch a tent. Enjoy stargazing, or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the property.  Pick wild grapes  or wild blackberries (when in season) or spring wildflowers. Kayak or canoe in the pond.  Bring your fishing gear and bait. Cabin use is free, but these are STRICT RULES. 1. No pets please, not even emotional support animals of any kind due to allergy in the family (we use the cabin when not booked). 2. No smoking inside the cabin 3. Do not use the bathroom towels for kitchen purposes or to wipe off dirt 4. Please no outdoor footwear indoors, but you are welcome to wear clean indoor footwear. Violation will result in forfeiture of the entire deposit 5.  Cars MUST be parked on the rocked section, thus walking is necessary from this point.  This is a 2-3 minute walk. The driveway might be dry but, no vehicles will be allowed past the rocked section due to unpredictability of weather. If it rains, vehicles will get stuck in the pasture. 6. Never leave food - solid or liquid - where ants can find them or you will cause them to infest the house including your bed! They can do so faster than you can imagine. 7. Please do not bring more people than officially booked, or we will cancel the reservation. No refund. We also close the gate once you have checked in to prevent the animals from escaping. 8. The moisture content can cause shrinkage or expansion of the ground, which can lead to leveling issues to the cabin. So please be aware that doors may or may not open or close smoothly.

The Huber family began its legacy of farming and ranching in 1868 when Samuel Isaak Huber, an immigrant from Switzerland, settled in Cat Spring, Texas. His son, Henry, and grandson, Lawrence, followed in his footsteps. Lawrence, a pretty good horseman and roper, used his winnings to acquire more land during the depression. He and his wife, Edna Schaffner Huber, willed the land to their twin daughters, Mary and Faye. Mary and her husband, Eddie, settled on the home place in 1970. Since that time, they have continued to build a strong and vibrant beef cattle operation. Eddie and Mary cultivated beautiful fields of Coastal and Tifton. Hay from these fields provides quality nutrition to our cattle during the winter months. Mary and Eddie's daughter, Connie and her family, Aaron and Skye, moved to the home place in 2013 and soon after created Watermelon Hill as a way of honoring the animals they raise and sharing the Huber family's natural way of life. The ranch consists of open fields of hay and grazing pastures intermixed with hardwood and softwood forest. Hilly landscapes are broken with wet weather creeks and fishing ponds located around the ranch. The town of Bellville is 7 miles, Columbus is 14 miles and Brenham is a short 25 miles away. There are multiple places to dine or enjoy a local brew close as well. Don't forget that Antique Week over in Warrenton is just 25 miles away. However, none of that matters if all you want to do is be quite and enjoy some serenity. The closest highway is two miles away so if quiet is all you want we have that in abundance. Camp sites are primitive with no water or electricity.

1 night at Circle C CampGrounds
Circle C CampGrounds was a convenient location for me to spend a night while hiking a short portion of the Lone Star Hiking Trail (LSHT) The campground is spacious and peaceful, and just steps away from the trail. I enjoyed the comforts available such as the lighted pavilion with sockets for charging my phone, potable water for drinking, and a flush toilet and outdoor shower. This campground is a nice option for folks who want to backpack but are not quite reading to rough it overnight at a primitive campsite along the trail. I had the entire place to myself on a Tuesday night in April. I did not meet Terry in person but we had great communication via the app and by text. I would stay here again, and would recommend it to others.

Weekend Trip to 5D RANCH
We had an amazing experience at this campsite! Our group consisted of two families with children ranging from 5 to 11 years old, and the ranch was the perfect size for them. The kids had a blast riding their bikes to the lake, fishing from the boats, and paddling around in the boats. The sunsets over the lake were absolutely stunning, and the overall vibe of the site was everything we hoped for. It felt like we were immersed in the forest, surrounded by trees, which made the experience even more magical. The site itself was spotless, and we really appreciated the thoughtful touches, like the rural toilet near Site 12. It was equipped with toilet paper, a light with a sensor, and added a level of comfort we weren't expecting. Even the family dog was friendly and welcoming, which was a nice bonus! Julie’s family made the experience even more special. Everyone was incredibly kind, and we enjoyed chatting with them. Eddie, in particular, shared fascinating stories from his wonderfully adventurous life. We’re already looking forward to returning and exploring other sites! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful, family-friendly camping experience.

Circle C was a great place to camp, I was very comfortable, I love that he provided firewood free of charge, Terry was very accommodating and helpful. the hiking trails next to the campground were really nice. the campground itself was kept up very nice as well as the bathroom, shower area, it was nice that there was available hot water and electric in the common area if I needed it.

The views at Hilltop Prairie were gorgeous! We loved getting to explore the property with our kids and dog. William was a friendly and welcoming host, giving us maps and explaining the layout of the property and stayed in touch through the app. The property is far enough from town to feel secluded, but close enough that a run to the store for forgotten supplies was quick and easy. We would definitely recommend this place!

The views were beautiful, first morning I heard the rooster crowing and cows mooing, didn’t see either, enjoyed the meet n greet with the horses and ponies! Everyone was super helpful and respectful. The wind blowing in the tall pines and all the birds singing was delightful. Bonus seeing people bring their horses here to ride! Slept 9 hours one night and had a 3 hour nap one day. Just want I needed!! Will definitely be back!!

Me and my girlfriend spent the weekend at site 10 on the ranch. Had an amazing time! Camp was quiet and so were the neighbors. Julie was so helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting the animals! Trust me, it’s worth it. Something about combing a horses mane hahahaha. Stars, lake and quigley the dog were all amazing experiences. Can’t wait for our next weekend there!

My husband and I had not been camping in over 3 years. we went with another couple and made our weekend home right up on the cliff overlooking the Navasota River. It was breathtaking, we had such a wonderful time. We wanted the weekend the relax, do some fishing, have a small fire, stay up really late and just be out away from our everyday life. The fishing was really good, everyone in our party was able to catch a fish if not multiple. The owners of the place were extremely friendly and even gave us a guided tour of the land to meet the needs we were looking for. We will be back to this location again,

The Navasota River Ranch is a 600 ac parcel of land bounded by more than a mile of the Navasota River on its west side and two tributary creeks on its north and southeast sides. The river bottom is wild and untamed, while the rest is rolling hills reminiscent of the prairie that once greeted settlers. Nearby is Bryan-College Station home of Texas A&M University To the west on Hwy 105 is Washington on the Brazos State Park. This is the location where delegates gathered to hastily draw up a declaration of independence before joining the Runaway Scrape to avoid capture and execution by the advancing Mexican Army. Farther down the road is the famous Blue Bell creamery in Brenham. The tour and ice cream are well worth the trip. On the property are miles of Jeep trails excellent for off road and 4WD vehicles. Guests might prefer hiking along these trails or strike out on foot trails and game trails. Thanks to the hunters who have come for the deer and feral hogs over the years there are numerous observation structures for viewing wildlife up close, or just enjoying the solitude of the deep woods. Three ponds offer bass and perch fishing from the bank or bring your own boat. And then there is the Navasota River...

The property borders a small creek and has abundant trees, and wildlife. Beautiful views from every vantage with a high field on one half of the property and a low bottom land near the creek where there are many options for a relaxing, private stay. Chose big sky or a more secluded spot. Incredible wildflowers on display in the spring. The property is not bordered by close neighbors or dense housing, just more land so sunsets and rises are wonderful and open. Low ambient light pollution at night means the stars are very bright (and so are the fireflies)! Guests are required to communicate estimated time of arrival well in advance. When arriving, make sure to meet Aaron or a designate at the red gate before entering further into the property. If tent camping, please do not bring glass containers, also you must pack out all garbage and waste. Inquire ahead of time to see if firewood is available to be gathered on site, or if you will need to bring your own. No uninvited guests without 24 hour prior approval, and additional guest fees paid. Also please no more than one dog per site.
