Weekend Trip to The Bus Stop Campground

We had a group and reserved six of the sites. What an awesome place, everyone loved it! The bathrooms and showers are great. Quiet, feels remote even though you're only a couple miles off the main road. Will definitely stay here again when we're in the area.

It was a long and bumpy ride to our site, but worth every bounce! Beautifully tended, thoughtfully laid out plan with everything we needed and then some. The showers were big enough for two, which was convenient, and the Wi-Fi was clear and strong the entire time. Firewood placed at the site was an added bonus. Was more than satisfied!

Awesome property. I only stayed for a night and rolled in pretty late, but it was very clean and easy enough to navigate. The bathrooms are the nicest I’ve ever seen at a campground in a state/national park or Hipcamp.

This was a great remote spot near Big Bend Ranch State Park. Simple shade structure, totally private. Porta potty not too far away, fire wood if you purchase, ample water.

Excellent campsite! Electric and water hooks ups worked perfectly. The water ran clear and had good pressure. The camp was clean and even included a bucket of tools in case you forgot something. Showers and restrooms were great! Awesome location and I highly recommend.

The bus stop campground is a primitive campsite without being "too primitive" The facilities, showers and restrooms are wonderful outdoor type showers. And while I was there I enjoyed the ice cold shower. It makes you feel alive again. PS I choose to take cold showers , there is hot water available!!! If you are into stargazing, off-road driving, and being between Lajitas and Terlingua, then this place is for you. The scenic drives alone are amazing and this place puts you right in the middle of all the accessible trails, highways, and scenic points and overlooks that you could spend your vacation doing from this spot as a home base. We will definitely be back!

The stay at the bus stop camp ground was perfect being between terlingua and Lajitas. The sites don’t have any shade but not a problem if you have an awning or a canopy. Just make sure to take some screw in stakes for your tent/canopy. Restrooms/ showers were very clean. Was able to explore the ground and get some hiking in for a beautiful view of the whole campground.

Awesome place to camp. Beautiful scenery, easy access to LaJitas or Terlinguia. Restrooms were very nice and clean. I was there with a group of other ladies and we will definitely be back next year. Thank you for sharing your beautiful place!

We enjoyed our stay at the Little Burro again. The sites are clean and well kept and the views were fantastic as usual. We also got to meet a new addition to the resident burro herd. Baby, Dusty is adorable. If you are looking for a great spot to camp, I highly recommend Little Burro.

This was definitely a cool place to stay. The desert views were amazing. You should hike up to the water pump (it looks like a pterodactyl). There were some water issues, but it may have been related to the power outage on the first night of my stay. There was a little wash basin with water at every site with running water. Each site also had a burn ring, a bundle of firewood, and a picnic table. You NEED to bring some kind of shade, like a canopy. The inside showers are great. The outside shower at the multi-use station didn't work, but hopefully they get it fixed because it would be an awesome place to shower at night. Or during the day, too, I suppose. Speaking of night, the stars are amazing out there. Anyway, this is a really cool place to stay, and I definitely recommend it.

The campground was beautiful, the wash bins at the site was very convenient, and the bathrooms were very clean and nice. However there were nearby roosters and a party that added noise so bring ear plugs just in case! We loved watching the sunrise and sunset and in general the vibes were immaculate.

Super cool site! The showers and bathrooms were nice! Seemed safe and we didn’t have many neighbors so it was even better! The star gazing here is INSANE! I would recommend!!

We stayed on site 7 its slightly up hill from the others and the last site on the property. We loved it! Beautiful views of the mountains very peaceful and gorgeous sunrises! Having WiFi was amazing and the restrooms and outdoor showers were a major plus and clean. Thank you David for providing us with such an accommodating camping experience!

Great little campground! Clean bathrooms plus decent WiFi, potable water, and 30 Amp power at each site. What more could you ask for? The campground is a bit out of Terlingua and therefore a bit further from BBNP but that just made it all that much quieter at night! The only issue I had was the power went out due to a storm and from what I could tell, that meant the water was not running, even for the bathrooms. This was not a huge issue for me since I was in a camper but I'm sure it might have been an inconvenience for others. Also, the WiFi went down with the power which meant I couldn't get weather updates since there is no Cell coverage at the campground.

The Little Burro store has all you need for a stop over and our RV spot was good and level. Currently so arid, in a prolonged drought. Jackasses behind the camp. We would stay again if visiting the Big Bend

Great site! Super clean showers and bathrooms. Showers had hot water. Clean sites, nicely spaced out. All sites have electricity, water, seating with 4 log stumps, fire pit, and plenty of space to spread out. We had such a wonderful time and enjoyed the peace of being out there. We would definitely come back to The Bus Stop again.

4 nights at Tierra del Sol Basecamp

We camped at Tierra del Sol for a few days while exploring the Big Bend area for the first time. Kyle is a terrific host and answered all of our questions. His property seems remote but is only a short drive off the highway. It is well marked but best accessed the first time during the day.

Rio Bravo Ranch

Rio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road. We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults. One day we were sitting on "the backside," enjoying the amazing vistas, solitude and a campfire when the idea came to us that we should share this amazing place with others seeking this type of experience. We tried to think about what makes camping enjoyable to us - no immediately adjacent campers, a nice fire ring/shade structure, a nice, large tent site and vistas with unobstructed views. We have incorporated this into our campground design which, when completely finished, will encompass several hundred acres of Chihuahuan desert vistas. We are also fortunate enough to have a large riparian area on the property. It is in this area, amongst the 40ft tall cottonwood and willows, we often find Gambel's Quail, Scaled Quail, Javelina and numerous bird species including the occasional turkey. We would love nothing more than to share this wonderful place, where we grew up, with souls seeking solitude, adventure and inspiration. Our eastern entrance is just a few miles outside the Big Bend Ranch State Park boundary, conveniently located on Casa Piedra road about 1.6 miles north of FM 170.

Rancho Del Mapache - Big Bend

We purchased this land in April of 2020 with the intent of restoring and transforming this now feral land into a natural oasis; a restorative, sacred place for flora, fauna, mind, body, and spirit. We love traveling and camping and recognized a need for private camping without the hustle and bustle sometimes experienced on public lands. Rancho del Mapache is still in its infancy, but with your help, we will restore the land to a beautiful, natural, native landscape and preserve it for all to enjoy affordably and privately. The area of presidio is likely the longest continually settled place in North America, with the history spanning tens of thousands of years. More recently, the Spanish settled the area In the early 1600s, establishing a mission and garrison. Despite extended human habitation, the desert remains remarkably unchanged. Roads are cut, rivers are tapped, new plants appear, still the desert remains. The area also holds the records as the hottest and coldest places in the state of Texas.This 40-acre parcel was once part of the town of Adobes. The area is now called the Adobes Ghost Town. Cotton and sheep were farmed from the mid-1800s until the late 1970s. There are still plenty of artifacts to explore pointing to a tough life in a rugged land. Whatever antiquities you come across, please leave them as they were found so someone else can enjoy the same discovery.

Tierra del Sol Basecamp

The Tierra del Sol Basecamp is an open desert camping area located within Terlingua Ranch, 3 miles off of Hwy 118, 19 miles north of Study Butte and 22 miles to the entrance to Big Bend National Park. This region of far west Texas is well known for its remote ruggedness and beauty rapidly becoming the go-to place for those wanting to get away from it all, without having to spend a fortune to do it. It’s one of the last frontiers of North America and One of the only two National Parks in Texas. The Basecamp will reside on the 40 acre property. In the center is an area of approximately 6 acres flat, with rising limestone ridge lines to the east and west, open skyline to south with a view of Bofecillos Mountains, an area characterized by volcanic deposits of lava and ash-flow tuff and sedimentary deposits of conglomerates and sandstones. The four mountain tops; Packsaddle, Hen Egg, Panther and Agua Fria Mountains provide an amazing view during the day and at night, breathtaking night time views of the Milky Way and the multitudes of stars to gaze upon unlike any other place in North America. The morning sunrise over the eastern mesa brings its own spectacular views. Surrounding the 40 acres are many things of archaeological wonder. A Rock Hounds dream of minerals, stones and fossilized prehistoric microorganisms, as well as, the potential of finding the fossils of large prehistoric aquatic mammals. Yes, you are free to take a small sample of the thousands of quartz and calcite stones found in huge abundance. As you come to then end of Mailbox Rd., you'll see a residence to your left. This is "The Field Lab", owned by the well know sustainable engineer John Wells. If you'd like to pay him a visit, please contact him in advance.
