Weekend Trip to Lost Woods

We had such a great time at Site 4! This was actually the second time camping in that spot, about a year and a half ago my son and I stayed there, I loved it so much I reserved it again. The campgrounds are dense and laid out so well, we can setup and walk the dog around for a good distance, and the area is perfect for plenty of tents and gear. I know a lot of people leave reviews and make comments about road noise but honestly you adjust to it, and the sounds of nature are the real focus anyway. Also the port a potty is quite possibly the cleanest one I have ever seen, ha. Air fresheners and all, just watch out for wasp nests, I got a wake up call this morning from one just above the door, but hey they campout too 🤣 Can't wait to come back and try another site , thanks again James!

Weekend Trip to Mockingbird Farms

Our stay at Mockingbird Farms was perfect! It was our 2 year olds first camping experience and the privacy and safety this land provided was perfect. He adored the donkeys and still can’t stop talking about them. The hosts were so generous to offer the cabin when it started raining and coffee on the cool morning. The outdoor bath also made for an extra relaxing evening. We have already made recommendations to friends and will definitely be back ourselves!

We stayed at Site 1 for two nights. Mr. James was very kind and helped us rearrange our reservation when we realized that Site 13 was too far from the parking area—it would have been difficult to carry our XL tent. Site 1 felt private and gave us a great connection with nature. While there was some noise from Loop 1604, it wasn’t enough to be bothersome. It hardly felt like we were in the San Antonio metropolitan area. We definitely recommend this place and plan to come back someday to stay at Site 3.

Pretty nice place close to stores so if its your first time camping this would be a great place. Goats were interesting to see and overall trails were nice. Campsite 3 was perfect to drive into without any issues.

Great spot for our camping needs! Able to back right in to the spot and view the campfire from my truck bed tent. A little pricey for basically no amenities but overall a great site for or needs. You can hear the traffic nonstop but what do you expect from a campsite so close to the city. We will definitely return in the future.

28 nights at Everfree Shire Ranch

I loved camping on Michael's land, and would return! When we got here, our site was flooded so he allowed us to use another site temporarily while he had mulch and a drain put in so the site could be used even wet. Then, we quickly realized we had no shade and this site wouldn't work, so he let us switch to yet another site that wasn't booked to make our stay much better!! Mike is very accomodating and all around fantastic host! We moved to site 22, Smaugs site right next to the horses, which was definitely a highlight! Mike also provided DE for the ants in the site, and always asking everyone if they needed anything from town. Everyone there is so warm, friendly and welcoming. Truly great people here! The road noise is obnoxious but the host has no control over it, and most nights it's very quiet. The stargazing is OUT of this world, and the nearby small towns are full of kind people. We truly enjoyed our stay of 6 weeks at the shire, even got a chance to watch all extended edition LOTR movies and made memories with my kids. 10/10 would highly recommend this hidden gem!

Really nice place. Unkomplicated. Very friendly host. Beautiful horses. Our daughters really like it there. Washingmaschine and dryer 👍🏽 At night you can hear the vehicles on the road. Only the restroom was dirty.

I loved how secluded the site, yet, not too far from the car, the toilet station and trash station. We really enjoyed the experience despite of the strong wind. James is greatly responsive and supportive. We will definitely visit again!

Not much to say, we pulled in late and left early. Probably could have parked on the side of the road, but I hate getting woken up and having to move. James the host was responsive and helpful. The place looked pretty killer for a nice getaway. It's not a typical campground, it's private land with outhouses and sites with firepits. Very reminiscent of a Baja situation. Host says he locks the gate at night but I couldn't confirm. Overall I'd recommend

We stayed twice this season so far and it's honestly a fast favorite! We have a small 16' teardrop that fits perfectly for use at sites 1, 2, 3, 6, & 8. Our 1st trip was with some friends, their kids and our dogs at sites 6, 7, & 8 at the recommendation of the owner. Perfect to sit at the shaded campfire space @ 8 with space for everyone's tent! The 2nd trip was for a family birthday camping with some dogs as well @ site 1 - which was adjusted to site 2 to be further from the entrance road. James is always very responsive and easy to communicate with for anything! Notes for potential campers: - IT IS JUST THE WOODS...in the suburbs. There is the convenience of access to stores if you forgot something but once you are on site, there is 1 port-a-potty (cleaned 1/wk?) that is within a 5-10 minute walk from any site. No water connections & no electricity. Great "tester" for introducing people to camping b/c of the safety net of being so close to civilization. - Most sites VERY well shaded. If you are in site 1 or 2 I recommend bringing a canopy because the sites are cleared pretty well. - Road is very accessible but it is a dirt/rock road. More uneven and larger rock than gravel. - Sites 4-8 have the least road noise, with the lowest road noise being at 8. - Carpool for groups as much as possible. Parking (except at 1, 3, or 8) limited. - 8+ppl tents: Sites 1-4 & 8 have space for at least 2 tents; site 6 (maybe 5?) for 1 tent; sites 5 & 7 poss. but tight - Very walkable!

A network of trails criss-cross the creek and wind throughout the property under a peaceful canopy of large beautiful trees. Don't be surprised if you run into deer, squirrels, or roadrunners! Our property is home to a wide variety of hill-country wildlife. - Each of our campsites are private and surrounded by forest. - Each site has a fire ring for campfires - Our trees are our most precious natural resource and set this campground apart! Please don't do anything to harm them. - Port-o-john is available on site. - All of our campsites are primitive. No electric or water here. - When you camp with us you are welcome to explore and play on the entire property! We have 55 acres of trails and woods to explore! Please bring your bikes, trail shoes, or whatever helps you have fun in the wild! - Hammocks welcome! We have so many trees! All of our sites are hammock-friendly. - When you check-in, just text us, your host will help you find your campsite. - Some sites are drive-in where your vehicle can park right next to the fire. Others are walk-in and require a short hike of 100' or less from your parking space. You can indicate your preference during booking or at check-in. If you want to drive right into your site, Campsites 2, 3, 6, and 12 are the sites you want. Some of our campsites are more secluded than others and offer extreme privacy in the most beautiful settings we have to offer. If you're looking for a wilder campsite surrounded by huge old trees and all the peace the woods have to offer, just request Campsites 4, 5, 7, or 8. Each of these sites requires a walk of at least 50' from your vehicle to the fire ring. Site 13 is only for backpackers or people willing to hike about 500 yards to the campsite over rough terrain. There is no way to drive to it or even get close except on foot. But it is spectacular and beautiful! Only three sites can accommodate a smaller trailer or camper. Site 1, Site 2, and site 6. Please notify me in your booking if you intend to bring a camper and I can accommodate you. We practice leave-no-trace as much as possible. So please pack out anything you pack in. You are responsible for removing all trash. If any garbage is left behind in your site you will be billed for the cleanup. We have a dumpster located near the front gate. Please use it and put all your trash in there. Heads-up! We have a small farm on the property. Dogs are always welcome and we LOVE our furry friends! For their safety and the safety of our livestock please keep them leashed while on property.

Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare. The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable. We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm. We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025. If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.

We live on site with our 4 children (and a gaggle of animals). We are both Air Force Veterans. After leaving active duty, we traveled the country full time from 2017-2021 in our RV with our kids. Everfree Shire Ranch is an 11 acre estate nestled between quiet country houses and a very active horse ranch next door to the east. Rescue horses are also kept on the property in rotation. Much of the camping here is still a work in progress! So for now, a very private economical choice for campers! The central building has indoor lodging available and the side bathroom with indoor toilet / washer / dryer may be used by campers as well. A new outdoor shower is 95% complete and usable but swimwear is required because we have not finished filling in the slots between the wood fence panels. The RV Dump station is also ready for use as well as the new outhouse! If you forgot to dump on the way out or need to before arriving, please use the free dump stations on I-35 near Natalia on either side of the highway.

Old Herrera Ranch - Medina River

We're a five acre piece of an historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the Medina River. Come for the day or stay the night for some primitive camping. We've got plenty of room for tents, roof-top-tent setups or car/van dry-camping. We’re currently in the building/restoring process, but we’ll have some electrical, drinking water, fire pits, plenty of shade, compost toilets, water in the river, and plenty of good vibes. Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River.
