Where to even start! Gene was the most absolute wonderful host and made us feel so welcome from the very start. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed to kickstart the weekend. There were so many amenities, but we heavily enjoyed the kayaks and they were so much fun. I would definitely recommend booking this place for a weekend getaway as the view was simply amazing. Gene even wowed us with his card tricks and honestly, that was literally the cherry on top. I can go on and on about how great this location was and how great Gene was, but you should definitely find out for yourself and book. You will not regret it!! It was secluded and the quietness was top tier. The cabin was phenomenal and had enough space for 4 girls with a lot of bags (lol) and the hot water was ahhhmazing. Thank you Gene for hosting us and honestly being so welcoming and kind, especially with the birthday party. It was truly a pleasure and we will be back !!

Upon arrival late at night although I gave David a short notice he showed up in the Darkness with his family and showed me around the campsite and made sure that all our questions were answered unfortunately on the second day my girlfriend who isn't a big camper wanted to cut the trip short and David was courteous enough to provide us a refund although he didn't have to we'll definitely consider coming back in the future the campsite was very well organized and clean and easy to locate. Highly recommended!

We stayed here with our boys over spring break. The cabin was cozy, very clean, had everything we needed. It was just the right size for the 4 of us. The lake is breathtaking and very quiet! The sunrises there are beautiful. They have activities for the whole family! Mr Gene was very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Our family had a great time here. The cabin is clean and we'll stocked with linens and such for the cooler nights. We had no issues cooking any meals or figuring out the sleep situation. The view of the lake from the window and porch is beautiful, especially the sunrise. Kayaking the lake is fun and a smooth ride. Plenty of fish hopping from the reeds near the shore to the stumps out in the middle. Even if the water sports aren't your favorite, there is plenty to do with the covered pavilion. Last but not least, Gene and his family are the best. They're kind and wonderful to be around but will give you your space to enjoy nature. Could not recommend more.

This was my second time visiting David and his family’s campground. This place is very secluded and ran by a very respectable family. I will be coming back to THRIVE for the foreseeable future. 10/10 recommend!

Awesome experience. We had the whole lake to ourselves. Beautiful hiking wonderful nature and beautiful crystal clear water.

This was an amazing experience! We loved getting away from the city and enjoyed the quiet downtime. The cabin was so well kept and clean. I liked that the main room was on the other end of the cabin so it felt more private. Sunsets and sunrises were beautiful with the large windows from all rooms. We cooked in the cabin and all necessary dishes and utensils were available. It was cold so we didn’t get in the water but we are looking forward to returning during warmer weather to do so.

The cabin was very secluded, peaceful, and easily slept 6 people. There was plenty to do while we were there: ping pong, basketball, kayaking(our favorite), etc. We had plenty to do, even on the day it poured. The TV allows you to sign in to any streaming service so we watched some bowl games as well. The view from the bedrooms and living room was SPECTACULAR! The owner was lovely and offered us an extra night when he realized how much rain we were getting. He was very helpful. My family and I can’t wait to go back.

We had a lovely time!! Plenty of dry wood for a roaring fire every night, so many cute animals around and we LOVED the outdoor hot tub. We can't wait to go back! Jim was extremely helpful and kind and the property is gorgeous. A fantastic jumping off point for hiking at near by Big Thicket National Preserve and Lake Livingston State Park, or check out Naskila Casino for a night out.

Staying at the thrive tiny house was an absolute delight! The peaceful atmosphere and stunning views made it the perfect weekend getaway. The house itself was thoughtfully designed, with cozy yet modern accommodations that exceeded our expectations. It was clear that a lot of care went into every detail, making it well worth the price. The endless breathtaking trails and quiet surroundings added to the relaxing experience and we left feeling completely refreshed. My friends and I (3 couples, 7 kids total) rented all three cabins for a weekend getaway. We found it quiet and peaceful; with exquisite lake views. There are lots of activities or gathering spots for kids and adults. We had riotous indoor games, went kayaking on the lake, played kids vs parents pickleball and the little ones had a lot of joyful squeals finding roly-polys in the sandbox. Everyone went at his/her preferred speed making it the most adaptable spot we've ever been. Besides having the place to ourselves, the host, Gene amplified our enjoyment by being friendly, responsive, and exceedingly generous. You can tell he and his wife created the spot for their family. We highly recommend this spot and will certainly come back ourselves.

You will leave with red dirt on your vehicle but that's part of the appeal, the secluded getaway :) Once you start down the driveway you'll see the lake through the trees, making the rough 5-mile ride worth it.

Learn more about this land: The Rock Pit is a 5 acre swimming hole located in Trinity County that has been there over 50 years. Long ago they had dug out an area on a hill for rock on the dirt roads, and hit and underground water table. There are no fish in the Rock Pit, as the pH is 4.5, so no fish will live in it. I recall swimming there as a small boy, and wanted to share my memories with others. Depth ranges all over, but the deep end is around 15 feet. I have 5 kayaks currently, but bring yours if you have them, along with your vests. There is fishing in Lake Livingston, my place is north of it. There is access to Lake Livingston via White Rock Creek. A public boat ramp in on Highway 94, just outside Trinity. Or you can go back towards Trinity, to highway 357 and go to a ramp closer to the big lake. Tall pine tress, a few Oaks, and maple trees surround the place. Bring your mosquito repellant, as you are in the country! The place is raw right now, but I am planning improvements such as a few A frame cabins, a showering area and so on. So many things to do!
