1100 acres of gorgeous natural land at the headwaters of the Medina River. Crystal clear and clean spring feed water. Fourth-generation family owners. Remote camping. Very private with plenty of varied terrain for hiking swimming, tubing, biking or just hanging out in a hammock enjoying the breeze and peace and quiet. About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out. NO FISHING Free firewood for use during your stay and can make a good deal if you want to take some home! As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are-- 1. Below the Green Cabin 2. Another my brother likes that has a cypress tree submerged you can sit on he calls the 1000 waterfalls 3. big pond Please note all pictures taken on and of the ranch remain the property of the LAF ranch and are to be used for personal or promotional purposes only. The site sits near the junction of Bailey Creek and the South Llano River. The land is managed for bird watching and plant diversity and boast and astonishing variety of plant species. The Painted Bunting and the Black-throated Sparrow almost always available for view here. Hill Terrace Cabins One and Three began their existence as Depression era Girls Scout cabins. Humans have been on the site and estimated 7,000 years now and there is strong sense of peace and continuity in the land and waters here. An historical marker on site relates a famous shoot-out between The Texas Rangers and the infamous Potter gang. The wells are shallow, spring fed, and sweet with limestone, so bring your favorite tea or coffee. And a hat! The river is flowing well, but burn bans may be in effect.

We have 16 cabins, a central recreational area and 600' of private riverfront. No crossing the highway to access the river! Great stretch of river for fishing, swimming, kayaking and relaxing. My great grandfather built the original "Camp Waltonia" as a primitive fishing camp with only camp sites, a dining hall and bath house. He wanted to share his love of the outdoors. Over the years, cabins were added, and the dining hall became the main house/office. Some cabins are original 1920s and 1930s, others were built in the 1990s. We have one brand new cabin that was completed June 2023. Most cabins have HVAC, BBQ grill, picnic table and screened-in front porch with porch swing and dining table. Concrete patio with BBQ pit and picnic table. Free parking, free WiFi. Enjoy direct access to the river, with kayaks available to registered guests. Central recreational area with playground, washers pit, ping pong, corn hole. Located one hour from San Antonio, 30 minutes from Fredericksburg, 2 hours from Austin. No parties/events. No pets.

Our stay at Tent Site #2 at Boulderdash Cabin & RV Park was absolutely wonderful! Carol-anne and Lyn were amazing hosts—friendly, responsive, and super thoughtful. They provided helpful tips before our arrival and made sure we had everything we needed for a great experience. The site was peaceful and well-kept, surrounded by nature and just steps from the Medina River. Even though it was a short hike to the bathrooms, we were well-prepared thanks to their clear heads-up and suggestion to bring a tent potty—especially useful since we were camping with our child. We appreciated the attention to detail, from the check-in process to on-site items like firewood and ice. The no-visitor and quiet policies helped make the space feel safe and relaxing for families. We made some great memories here and would definitely come back again. Highly recommend for anyone looking to disconnect, relax, and enjoy the outdoors!

We absolutely loved our stay! We spent the weekend kid free celebrating our 13 year anniversary & couldn’t help but talk about how much the kids would have loved it! Will definitely be back sometime soon with the kids! Plenty of areas to swim or sit in the water and enjoy the absolute peacefulness of the flowing water and watching the sunset!

We loved camping out at Boulderdash! The campsites were clean and well maintained. There are amenities like freshwater, WiFi, and electricity available if you’d like, but it doesn’t feel like glamping. If you forget anything, Carol-Anne and Lyn have it handy. The riverside sites are a short walk to wading in the Medina river. The kids and dogs had a blast. Campers who come here should abide by the camp’s simple rule; don’t be a jerk. We’re looking forward to coming back as soon as possible!

We love this place, it's close enough to town if you forget something but still a very relaxing stay. Ellie is a wonderful host. We've had 2 great camping experience here. It was a beautiful, peaceful spot. Highly recommend! Oh and the river is nice too.

Ellie was super nice to work with! The property is right outside Bandera, So it’s easily accessible. It’s beautiful land! The campsites are a short walk through the woods to the river (from the photos I mistakenly thought the sites were literally a few feet from the water- not a big deal, Just FYI). I had a great weekend and look forward to going back!

This is definitely one of the best camping spots we have been to! Access to the river was very easy, even from up the hill, and the water was absolutely perfect. The restrooms were nice and clean. We stayed in Spot 2 with our travel trailer and we were grateful that no one booked Spot 1 next to us so we had a good amount of space and privacy. There were plenty of other people there but everyone was respectful and we were pretty spread out so the noise was minimal.

This location has everything you need, restrooms, community sink, and amazing access to the river. The campgrounds are very clean, and the RV sites are perfect. Carol Ann and Lyn put their passion for camping and traveling into their property. And it shows. These people made us feel like we were family, and honestly just want you to have a great experience while you’re at Boulderdash. If I could give this place 10 stars I gladly would. This was a quick get away for the wife and I. This place did not disappoint in anyway. We enjoyed the river, watching the firefly's, and the deer. Ellie was super helpful and very accommodating. Will defiantly be back!!

My group & I loved camping here. It was beautiful, hosts were quick to respond/helpful when needed, amenities were better than expected! Outdoor showers/sink/bathrooms were nice. The space was also bigger than we expected. Only thing I'd recommend is to bring some ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. The dogs in the neighborhood would bark occasionally in the night/early AM and any sounds echo from the river canyon. It wasn't a deal-breaker but ear plugs made all the difference in sleep quality. Also, even though the river was low, the water was refreshing/clean & we were able to swim plenty (perfect for floats/paddleboards). Overall, a wonderful experience & we look forward to coming back!
