. These are unique camping spots along the Guadalupe River. I didn’t exactly understand how unique until I started getting feedback from my campers. The surrounding scenery will lower your blood pressure and do wonders to let you reconnect with nature. Sit back and close your eyes late in the evening and listen to all the wildlife talking to each other. There is faint traffic noise from 90A about a 1/3 of a mile away but it calms down after 7 or so. Currently no amenities but I am in the plans for some portable bathrooms. Please be prepared to cover all your bathroom and cooking needs. I do have some good clean well water from a faucet on the way into the campgrounds. Campfires are permitted. There is a convenience store (Diamond A) with clean bathrooms and a great bbq just 5 miles to the west on 90A and a Walmart and HEB 10 miles to the east on 90A. (Both Diamond A and Walmart sell fishing licenses if you need one. Dogs are allowed at sites 3 and 4 but not at 1 or 2 where my livestock guardian dogs have access to. No matter the size or temperament of your pets you are always expected to have them under your control at ALL times. I have very small livestock in the area frequently I am almost always on the property and try to have my phone with me while campers are on site, just let me know what you need and I will do what I can to accommodate you. Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare. The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable. We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm. We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025. If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.

Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. The stocked river is teeming with largemouth and Guadalupe bass, catfish, sunfish, and rainbow trout, and can be an excellent place for beginning anglers (you can even borrow equipment for free). Pedernales Falls State Park is only 35 miles away. Swimming at holes, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and birding are a few of the quintessential outdoor Texan activities visitors enjoy most at Pedernales State Park, located near the area of Texas Hill Country where former President Lyndon B. Johnson grew up. Next to the famed Pedernales River, the park is an hour west of Austin, an hour east of Fredericksburg, and about 20 minutes from downtown Johnson City. The Alamo River RV Park and Campground is located in San Antonio, Texas and features shaded tent-camping sites, large RV sites, many near the Medina River, a large meadow for activities, and more. If you’re looking for a great getaway, a long-term place to call home, with lots of outdoors, this is it ! We’ll provide directions, information, and brochures to make sure your stay at our park, and trips to the great outdoors is just that: Great! We’re less than 30 minutes from the most popular San Antonio attractions including The Alamo, The River Walk, Lackland AFB, Sea World, Fort Sam Houston, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Shopping at Super Walmart, just 12 minutes’ drive; Trader’s Village – a 10 minute drive; and many restaurants and dining options nearby. My experience communicating with James was awesome — he’s very informative, thorough, and helpful. Everything about the stay felt easy and welcoming. The amenities were great! I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and well-kept the port-a-potty was — it smelled fresh every time I used it. My favorite part was definitely the fire pit; it was absolutely wonderful. The campsite (spot #3) is big, peaceful, and beautifully maintained. There were even two chairs and a grill at my site, it was such a thoughtful touch. The layout of the land is great; the fire pit is set further back, so you get privacy even though the other lots are visible when you first drive in. Everything was easy to find, and the whole place just has a calm, beautiful energy. I car camped here and would definitely recommend bringing mosquito spray or a net for your vehicle — once that’s handled, it’s smooth sailing. This place is perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking to unwind and enjoy nature.

John was very friendly and provided us with extra water. We were tent camping and NONE of the RV parks near San Marcos allow tents. John's place is primitive camping about 8 miles northwest of San Marcos which is okay.

What a gem!!! An incredibly beautiful spot. Serene and quite with so many things to do with the kids. Loved that they had small kayaks for my daughter to use. One of the best dam spots i've camped at. We will return.

Billy is a welcoming, warm host who sets your expectations upon arrival. His sheep and goats wandered through a few times and it was magical. We got to fish and relax and our spot was private. The trees on the property are beautiful and old and shady. Great weekend!

My extended family was a large group and we had the place to ourselves. We had a great time exploring along the river and wandering through the prickly pear forest. Our dogs loved being able to run free. There happened to be no mosquitoes which made sleeping in the hammock perfect.

Our stay at The Robin’s Nest was the perfect weekend getaway from the city. This unique home will truly have you sleeping in the trees. Everything you need is there, from coffee to firewood to a canoe for the pond! Shellie was friendly and helpful and quick to answer any questions I had. This is a special place. We look forward to staying here again!

I picked Billy land for my first experience of camping and I’m 102% going back. Billy’s hospitality is great. While I was there I witnessed colorful dragonflies, armadillos, goats and the river flowing with fish. At area (4) River bottom there were kayaks and a canoe with life jackets so you can go on the water. The whole scenery was just amazing.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! My designated area was perfect for me and my flatbed F250. I backed right up to my spot and set up with NO ISSUUES. My spot was clean, had a fireplace that was built out of stones from the natural landscape around the area and I cooked my food off it Very peacefull, no hassles and if i had any questions, which i did, I text James and within minutes i had an answer. Great place to camp no matter if you're pitching a tent, youre a vanlifer or if youre like me and you camp off your flatbed truck!! If you like to be secluded with No one around to bother you this place is for you. I had originally made a reservation for 2 days but at the end of the trip i decided to stay another night. Thanks, James, for an AWESOME experience!

On arrival they provided large wagons to assist with moving our belongings. Once camp was set up I was able to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Kayaks and life vests were provided. Fishing was the the most fun. The further you move down river away from the damn the better the fishing is. I would recommend this place to a friend and I would revisit this site again in the future.

Laura was very attentive and thorough with check in. The pictures of this site does not do it justice! My group and I had a great time :) We were only there for one night but could’ve easily spent a good few days just on the property. There were kayaks and paddle boards to use which we definitely took advantage of. You won’t be disappointed, just book it!
