Situated 15 minutes from the Port of Entry from Mexico, and 20 minutes from the only Texas casino, the Turtle Ranch is a great waypoint between a series of gorgeous South Texas adventure spots, like the mountains of Garner State Park, the Rivers of Seminole Canyon or the splendid isolation of Big Bend National Park.
Originally this was a sheep ranch spanning 1000s of acres. Until the 1980s, migrant workers came to work the sheep, deliver the lambs, and sheer the mamas. In the 50s, the original owner built a small cabin near the main homestead for his oldest son and his new bride, hoping they would stay on to run the ranch, but as youth often do, they left in search of a different type of life.
We were fortunate to have opportunity to purchase the cabin and expand
to a 3 bedroom home using materials from the original 100+ years ranch house that we carefully dismantled. We moved in a small herd of Dorper sheep, in an attempt to restore some of the original feel of the ranch. Dorpers grow hair, not wool, so they shed and don't require shearing. We delivered our first lamb, Lyle, on February 10, 2021.
Frick, our mighty Mexican longhorn bull, manages the small cattle herd that gives the ranch a real Texas feel. He's quite people friendly and loves to poke his head over the fence to pose for photos.
The mighty tortoises that inspired the name of the ranch are Juke and Rocky, 30 year old brothers who weigh close to 200 lbs each and will likely outlive us. There are a number of other turtles, wild and domestic, on the property. Guests may feed the big torts and other animals for amazing photo opportunities.

Located on Ranch Road 1120 only 5 minutes north of Garner State Park our property is the drop in for tubers and kayakers to jump in with your tube or kayak and float to Happy Hollow, Garner State Park, Neal's or Andy's. Rio Frio is 10 minutes south of Leakey and 10 minutes north of Concan away from lights and lots of noise. We embrace the Dark Sky pledge for stargazers seeking to enjoy the night sky, the Leave It Better pledge, ask that you Don't Mess with Texas, and ask that you treat others as you want to be treated.
We have firewood available at discounted rates for larger bundles than stores. We please ask that you respect all wildlife as we are in process of becoming a monarch sanctuary. There are many types of birds, butterflies, axis and whitetail deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, armadillos, and fish. No hunting and please have your fishing license.

Great experience. Host was very nice and accommodating, providing firewood and his own fire starters. Kids enjoyed the plethora of activities (ie basketball, disc golf, feeding chickens, goats, etc). Garner State Park is not far if looking for top notch hiking trails. Highly recommend.

Our stay at Woody’s property was wonderful!! Couldn’t have asked for a better stay. It was not too far from San Antonio but still a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle. Site 6 is at the front near the gate but still very open and secluded. Restrooms and communal area is not a far walk but a good enough distance away to still feel like you’re not camping right next to others. There is even cell service with ATT. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depending if you’re truly trying to disconnect but it was a nice plus to still have if needed. I would love to go back in the future and stay at a couple of the other sites that are much more tucked back into the wooded areas but the view from this site could not be beat. Thanks again Woody!

Our campsite was beautiful and spacious. The campground/property has more amenities than you would expect, including a full bathroom with shower, a shared kitchen area with a fridge, and not to mention the swings, hammocks, trails and even disc golf baskets that are all around the property. Woody and his family were super welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Overall wonderful experience and we’d come back anytime.

Cool spot near tons of Texas’s beautiful nature spots to explore . This camp has cool accommodations and shared community spaces.
We stayed at campsite 1 and felt secluded and loved the clean tent pad sites. We also added firewood to our reservation and it was piled up nicely at campsite upon arrival. Great host.

Seco. campgrounds was so cute ! they have Wi-Fi with in the communal kitchen . The bathrooms are nearby and there are cute chickens and goats. Woody greeted us upon arrival and made sure that we were comfortable. I would def recommend this for a campgrounds close to Lost Maples

We always love our visits to Woody's place. This was our fourth year visiting and this time we brought my parents who absolutely loved it. We enjoyed our stay at Seco Ridge! The #1 secluded spot worked out well and was pretty private and quiet. We don't need all the common amenities provided but for those who do, its a nice option. There were a few times communication with the host was delayed, and while WiFi was available, the password was not posted. Otherwise, a great spot! Would definitely stay again!
