Situated 15 minutes from the Port of Entry from Mexico, and 20 minutes from the only Texas casino, the Turtle Ranch is a great waypoint between a series of gorgeous South Texas adventure spots, like the mountains of Garner State Park, the Rivers of Seminole Canyon or the splendid isolation of Big Bend National Park. Originally this was a sheep ranch spanning 1000s of acres. Until the 1980s, migrant workers came to work the sheep, deliver the lambs, and sheer the mamas. In the 50s, the original owner built a small cabin near the main homestead for his oldest son and his new bride, hoping they would stay on to run the ranch, but as youth often do, they left in search of a different type of life. We were fortunate to have opportunity to purchase the cabin and expand to a 3 bedroom home using materials from the original 100+ years ranch house that we carefully dismantled. We moved in a small herd of Dorper sheep, in an attempt to restore some of the original feel of the ranch. Dorpers grow hair, not wool, so they shed and don't require shearing. We delivered our first lamb, Lyle, on February 10, 2021. Frick, our mighty Mexican longhorn bull, manages the small cattle herd that gives the ranch a real Texas feel. He's quite people friendly and loves to poke his head over the fence to pose for photos. The mighty tortoises that inspired the name of the ranch are Juke and Rocky, 30 year old brothers who weigh close to 200 lbs each and will likely outlive us. There are a number of other turtles, wild and domestic, on the property. Guests may feed the big torts and other animals for amazing photo opportunities.

Cool spot near tons of Texas’s beautiful nature spots to explore . This camp has cool accommodations and shared community spaces. We stayed at campsite 1 and felt secluded and loved the clean tent pad sites. We also added firewood to our reservation and it was piled up nicely at campsite upon arrival. Great host.

Seco. campgrounds was so cute ! they have Wi-Fi with in the communal kitchen . The bathrooms are nearby and there are cute chickens and goats. Woody greeted us upon arrival and made sure that we were comfortable. I would def recommend this for a campgrounds close to Lost Maples

We always love our visits to Woody's place. This was our fourth year visiting and this time we brought my parents who absolutely loved it. We had so much privacy and loved the sunsets, quiet and views. We also loved walking to the main community area and catching some live music Saturday evening. Can't wait to be back next year.

4 nights at Seco Ridge Campgrounds

We enjoyed our stay at Seco Ridge! The #1 secluded spot worked out well and was pretty private and quiet. We don't need all the common amenities provided but for those who do, its a nice option. There were a few times communication with the host was delayed, and while WiFi was available, the password was not posted. Otherwise, a great spot! Would definitely stay again!

Absolutely gorgeous area. I loved the ease of booking and getting to the campsite, and was very happy to see the chickens and a sweet cat when going to use the available restroom. Also was very pleased to see plenty of firewood at my site(since I chose the option to have it) thank you again! This was my second time here and I’m sure it won’t be the last :)

Another great stay at Seco Ridge Campground! Nice wooded spacious campsites and great owners! The bathroom are nice and the efrigerator in the shared kitchen is a nice perk!

Weekend Trip to Get Your Frio On

We had such a wonderful stay at Frio on the River! We ended up having the whole place to ourselves, which made it peaceful and relaxing. The property is well cared for, easy to access, and close to everything we needed. Garner State Park was just a short drive away, and there were gas stations and small shops nearby. Kelly was absolutely incredible! She was proactive with communication and sent helpful pictures since we were arriving late after dark. She stopped by in the morning to make sure we had everything we needed, and she was such a lovely person to talk to. She made us feel welcome right away. On our way out, we discovered we had a flat tire and she even offered to help and gave us great advice about where to go. Her kindness really stood out and made the stay even better! Even with a burn ban in effect, we were still able to cook using the small barbecue grill on site. The amenities were great — clean restroom facilities, hot showers, and thoughtful touches around the property. We loved spending time on the porch swing under the big tree, playing horseshoes and tetherball, and visiting the chickens. If you’re more of a cabin person, there are plenty on the property for big groups! There is some traffic noise from the nearby road, so sound-sensitive guests may want to know that, but it didn’t bother us at all. We would definitely stay here again the next time we’re in the area. Such a warm, welcoming, peaceful place!

We had an absolutely amazing time! It was the perfect short trip from San Antonio — just far enough to escape the city, relax, and take in the beautiful night sky. The peaceful, natural setting made it easy to unwind and reconnect with nature. There are plenty of options for every kind of traveler, from traditional camping spots to cozy bungalows you can rent. Such a great place for a quick getaway and some serenity under the stars! 🌟

I give this place 5 stars!! Has everything (restroom and shower) you need. I would 100% come back. Site 1 is secluded enough that you can hardly notice anyone else at the nearby campsite.

This was mine and my husband’s second time visiting the Seco Ridge Campgrounds. This year we stayed in the Bunkhaus. Our best friend and my cousin also joined us for the adventure. The Bunkhaus is nothing short of incredible. It’s more of a tiny home with an awesome patio area with fun lighting, games, and luxury lounging. A HUGE storm came in while we were there and the Haus had no leaks, nothing like that- it is a true experience. The interior is gorgeous with drywall and recess lighting. The bed was incredibly comfy. Owners Woody and Elaine were so very accommodating and kind. They got us fresh firewood and even fresh eggs from the ground’s chickens! In the Haus, there’s a microwave and large mini fridge for snacks and the grounds have a communal fire pit, swings, outdoor kitchen, running water, hot showers and toilets- I have to wear orthodics temporarily which makes it difficult for me to walk and Woody and Elaine set up a chemical toilet right outside the door of the Haus for me. INCREDIBLY accommodating. The Seco Ridge campground itself is the only place I have ever seen the Milky Way with the naked eye. I do astronomy photography and I was able to take some incredible photos. My family and I sang karaoke outside up to quiet hours time at 11, and had an overall BLAST! The Haus is air conditioned, heated, and has just the quaintest and most fun ambiance. It is a pleasure every year and we can’t wait to come back again soon!
