Stella Mare is a very nice location, very clean or organized! Staff are very nice and welcoming. One thing to note is that there isn't tons to offer, but they do keep their pool open year around, they have a pool heater which is cool. They have a bar but it wasn't open the whole time we stood there. I hope they work on offering more stuff for us RV folks :)

Weekend Trip to Bella's Place on The Bayou

We had a great time. Took the family and three dogs. Has a dedicated fenced dog run. Very private location right on the Bayou. Has a great private dock with good fishing. Caught redfish, blue crabs, spotted sea trout, black drum, catfish, bluegill, ladyfish and alligator gar all in one spot. The hookups were in the perfect location and did not require a long 50amp cord or septic hoses. Surfside beach is only 18 minutes away for your beach fix and good food. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. Great host and great spot.

Weekend Trip to Bolivar Peninsula RV Park

Beautiful park. Lovely host and fellow campers. How amazing to experience the Crystal Beach scene- you can walk! There are three options for dining even closer!! Everything tip top - electric, water, bath house etc plus the grounds are very ample - nicely mowed grass and one or two small healthy trees per site. A wonderful vibe.

We LOVE Stella Mare and would stay here again in a heart beat! So clean and quiet. We loved the pool and walking around the RV "park". We drove our car on the beach in Galveston, and you have to get the pork chops at Doc Holidays! If you're leaving here and going east (we were headed to Florida), look into taking the ferry. We didn't and it added an hour to our drive.

Everything was great! Five out of five stars, ten out of ten, twenty out of twenty. The only feedback I gave them was about the bathroom motion sensor light switch-- it will always automatically turn on when you go into the bathroom, and the switch doesn't allow that feature can't be deactivated, so it would be useful to bring a piece of tape and a piece of foil to cover the motion sensor at night, in case they don't think it worth it to replace the switch.

Bluewater RV resort was wonderful. Clean and very well maintained. Staff is friendly and responsive, and we enjoyed hearing the surf from the beach across the road. Quiet and friendly. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Jackie's RV Resort

My family and I stayed in cabins 5 & 6. We throughly enjoyed our visit. It's was a quick getaway about an hour drive from home. The manager was very accommodating could not ask for better service. We took advantage of the lounge area and played pool, watched TV and also had coffee there. The location is very close to kemah boardwalk and many restaurants if you don't want to cook. Armenia in the cabin was much more than I expected. Definitely will return.

Had a lovely stay at Jackie's Place. The property is nice, clean and well maintained. We stayed in the cabins which had nice amenities including wifi and roku TV in the room. Customer service was top tier and very accommodationing. I would definitely stay here again.

Where to go

Galveston Island State Park

On the west end of Galveston Island, this 2,000-acre state park offers beachfront and bayside camping with tent campsites including picnic tables, water pumps, and fire rings, plus nearby restrooms and shared showers. RV campers can choose between dry campsites for their trailers and motorhomes or RV sites with 50-amp hookups for electricity. While staying at or near Galveston Island State Park, Hipcampers can go paddling, mountain biking, hiking, or fishing—no license required for catching mackerel and jacks from shore.

San Luis Pass County Park

Just across San Luis Pass on the far west end of Galveston Island is the 15-acre San Luis Pass County Park, a bay park promising a quieter escape from everyday life. Full-service RV camping with hookups for 30-amp and 50-amp service, plus water and sewage is available, as are back-in and pull-through sites for campers and trailers. While tent camping isn’t allowed, the park has two rental cabins—ideal for catching the iconic sunsets at San Luis Park. Anglers will also appreciate the boat launches and on-site fish cleaning stations.

Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge

A not-so-hidden secret less than an hour’s drive from Galveston’s beaches is Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge. This 44,000-acre wildlife refuge is one of the most biologically rich environments in Texas and home to a stunning variety of migratory birds in winter, including 24 species of ducks and 13 species of sparrows. Alligators, frogs, salamanders, coyotes, and hawks are here year-round. Overnight camping is not allowed in the park, but nearby campsites, rental cabins, and RV parks provide easy access to this wildlife-spotting wonderland.

When to go

Galveston is a great destination for year-round camping in Texas—most campsites are open throughout the year, though some activities may be limited during winter. Campgrounds tend to be less busy in the spring and fall, and the weather is milder with temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to the mid-80s. Spring brings beautiful wildflowers and greenery to the parks and trails near Galveston. Summer can get hot and humid, as high as the mid-90s, but it’s also a popular time of year for water activities. Winter is a bit cooler, as low as the mid-40s, with opportunities to spot migratory birds, nesting sea turtles, and sun-bathing alligators.
