This property was purchased by my husband and I in 1980 from Margret Cetera mother of Peter Cetera lead singer of the band Chicago. When purchased the home was a small non descript cottage with a pole barn in the back field. It has grown to support grape, blackberry and muscedime vines.The original home has expanded through time and around 20 years ago, the pole barn was converted into a large 1200 square foot cabin with modern conveniences. My husband and I actually enjoyed living full time in the cabin for a period of 5 years before returning to reside in the main house. The cabin consists of 1 large common space room with sitting area and kitchen. The antique farm sink has hot and cold running water. Also available is a large refrigerator, toaster, microwave oven, hot plate, coffee pot and portable dishwasher. The antique Hoosier cabinet holds cooking utensils and silverware and located above the kitchen counter you will find plates, bowls, cups and glasses for your use. The water is well water, pure and delicious without chemicals. The cabin is equipped with a full size pool table for our guests enjoyment. The master bedroom offers a comfortable sleigh bed, full bathroom with shower and just outside the bedroom is a comfortable patio to enjoy, complete with table and chairs for two and outdoor fire place. Also available is a twin bed tucked in the corner of the area between the main room and bedroom. For guests wishing to continue their exercise routine, a modern treadmill is available as well. Walk the spacious well landscaped yard with multiple seating venues including a large hammock. For a quiet night of movie enjoyment, bring your favorite movies and make use of the DVD/VCR machine and wide screen television. We will provide drinking water and extra water for washing up. We supply all linens and dishware needs. First Aid Kit is provided, but we are just a short walk through the woods if you need anything. Nestled on 1 acre of our 10 acre hobby farm, which includes Peacocks, chickens, 4 cats, 7 Collies and a Weimaraner named Maggie, including a very friendly dwarf goat named Pickles. You may also see wildlife, such as deer and turkey, strolling down the meadow on the lower part of your site. Strands of lighting and battery candles provide a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere in the evenings. Coolers available if you need one. You can bring up to 2 extra tents for families looking for an out door experience . We will also have tents available for rent for families. We're located on a quiet 1.5 acre lot on a double dead-end road. We are a quick walk across the street to Lake Dimmick and the many trails of the University of the South domain. Points of Interest: On foot: -Lake Dimmick Access Gate - 4 minutes (.2 mile) -Lake Dimmick Dock - 15 minutes (.7 mile) By car: -La Bella Pearl - 5 minutes -Mountain Goat Bike Trail - 5 minutes -Downtown Sewanee - 7 minutes -Head of the Crow State Park Visitor Center - 7 minutes -Downtown Monteagle - 8 minutes -Lake Cheston - 11 minutes -Fiery Gizzard Trailhead - 21 minutes -The Caverns - 28 minutes A few neighbors' houses are somewhat visible from the bus. Neighborhood noises including dogs/cars/roosters/etc are also possible, as are the sounds of wildlife! We've seen deer, heard bobcats, and are stunned by the variety of birdsong we hear in the mornings. We are in the process of restoring our land. Shoes are required on the lot, as there could be remaining debris from the previous owners. For the same reason, we also require guests to stick to the gravel and mulched areas and paths. Other things to note The bus is visible from the road, however we are one of only 3 houses on this street, so traffic is minimal (though it can be fast). 🐾 Pet Policy We’re happy to welcome well-behaved dogs! There is a $50 pet fee per stay to help cover additional cleaning and upkeep so we can continue offering a fresh, comfortable space for every guest (and their furry friends 🐶). Please make sure to add your pet to your reservation when booking, or let us know before check-in so we can update your stay accordingly. It was very peaceful at Helga's cabin. It's just a sweet, simple space to be quiet and enjoy some alone time with my dog. It was such a treat to be able to talk with Helga in the yard. I wish it had been warmer to sit on the porch and enjoy my coffee. Bad timing in weather (it was 20 degrees!), I would have loved to sit on the porch to drink my coffee. I also would have loved to have more time to chat with Helga. Hopefully there will be a next time!

I can hardly express just how amazing our little vacation at Deer Camp was. My wife and I were blown away by the cozy and welcoming atmosphere we walked into. The photos on the website hardly did it any justice for just how truly wonderful our stay was. We had planned to explore the area, but instead spent our time at the cabin for our entire stay. Mitch and Lori were fantastic hosts and we can’t thank them enough for the care and love they clearly put into the place. They really went the extra mile to stock the place with everything you need and more. My wife and I are already planning our next visit!

We loved it! The cabin is cozy and cute! Plenty of hiking onsite and friendly dogs/cats to keep you company! Helga was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed. She gave great local recommendations and even had fire wood ready for us on arrival! This was great because it had rained the day prior and we had dry wood! The hiking on her property is beautiful. Plenty of rock formations and views. Thank you for a great stay!

A charming little cabin on a beautiful property! I stayed here with my three dogs, and they loved having the space to roam freely. The cabin was cozy and comfortable, and the modern bathroom was a nice touch. Both the main room and the bathroom have their own window unit. The campsite was very nice, with great personal touches and everything we needed during our stay. There were strings of lights hung throughout the main camp area, which was great for getting around at night. The large tent had everything one might need, from cookware and utensils, blankets, seating, as well as a bed AND a fan for cooling off. The entire setting was very pretty and relaxing, with the tent on a deck perched over large rocks with thoughtful mulched pathways throughout. It was a very nice place and our hosts were very easy to get in contact with, making sure we had a great time. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great campsite with extra perks.

Great little spot for a night away with my 16 year old daughter. I’m a city person so loved that this wasn’t too remote but still private. They have everything you need to cook and relax. The bath house is nice and unique. Really enjoyed our stay and will come for longer next time.

BB is a well ran and organized KOA campground. Very quiet - yet enough amenities for the kids to play without "disturbing" other campers. The grounds keepers are Johnny on the spot with ice, firewood, trash pick up, and any requests. We will be returning next year. Do yourself a favor - bring your own toilet paper, fishing bait / small hooks. Best showers I have used in TN at a campground.

We found this place online and we are so glad we did! A short girls trip with daughters and their kids, this location made us feel like we were secluded, yet safe. Miss Judy had so many extra touches and a cozy atmosphere. We also got a visit from their peacocks in the morning! We would definitely stay again. Great site and great hosts!

This place is just magical. So much history and if you want to know the story, just ask Keith! Who, btw, is an incredible human who will make you feel comfortable and completely at home, but also away from it. Amenities, there is not a kitchen, but there is a mini fridge and a microwave. There aren’t any cooking implements, or dishes, but there is a propane grill, hibachi (charcoal), and HUGE firepit, and if you need some cookware, Keith can hook you up (not to blow up his spot). The bed is super comfortable, don’t try lighting a fire unless the flu in the fireplace is wide open(ask us how we know), the shower gets hot, two ac units keep it super comfortable, and there’s a spider we named “ole’ 4 legs” (she has 8 legs, we just called her that for short) that builds a web on the porch each evening that is magical to watch. Other than it being perfect, it’s even more perfect when it rains. The front porch is the perfect vantage point for the mist relaxing time you’ve EVER had listening to the rain. Ok, I’m going to stop before I give away too much of the secret and we can never book it again. That being said, it’s terrible and you’ll hate it. Stay away. 😜 jk it’s amazing. Thank you, Keith!

Weekend Trip to Fireside Camp + Lodge

Great camping spot! We had a great time at Nick's Hipcamp. We stayed both in the lodge and campground several nights and both were great experiences. We brought our toddler and she loved the chickens. So much to do around the area, good grocery store 10 minutes away in Jasper, good hiking/climbing around the area. Highly recommend!
