Running Water Creek is a unique, fully off grid campground just 20 minutes to downtown Chattanooga. We have 80+ campsites spread out over 120 acres. Most of the roads are accessible in any small car, but some roads require 4x4 (they're marked with a sign). We have a bath house with toilets, showers, and sinks and even offer hot water! Our well and cabins are all solar-powered as we are not on the electric grid.
Some info about the property:
-we DO NOT have water or power hookups
-we have gravel roads with a 5 MPH speed limit on the property (if you drive too fast the roads will seem rough)
-we are right next to a highway and train tracks so there will be some noise (some days are better than others and we have no way of predicting how many trains will/will not go by)
-none of our campsites have picnic tables (please plan accordingly)
-most campsites have fire rings built, but if you choose a site without one you need to build your own

It was super easy to book a spot last minute while on the road from Michigan to Florida. We stayed in our Jeep here. They responded quickly to our messages. The only negative for me is that the spots aren’t marked clearly. We came in after dark and weren’t sure where the spots were. The trains were close, but didn’t really phase us. The dog is super friendly. We would stay here again.

It was perfect for my traveling needs. I spent majority of my time during the day hiking in GA/TN so it’s perfect to return to in the late afternoon to relax. The Bath House was very clean and the dogs that roam the property are very friendly. The trains were a bit loud and busy during the night, but it is manageable to sleep through if you’re good at tuning it out. Overall, it’s great for a place to set up camp for the night and wake up early to continue a drive or to hit the trails.

Wow, just wow. This beautiful camp was exactly what my soul needed. Imagine...awaking to glistening rays of sunshine filtering through the trees to touch the morning moisture on the grass. The canopies of trees provide abundant shade for your campsite, and the little woodland critters that come out to play chase around the tree trunks. Evening shadows bring a peaceful feeling as the crickets sing their choruses. Evening becomes night with minimal light invasion to set the stage for star filled skies. The campsites are dotted spaciously throughout the campground, allowing a not-often-found level of quiet for all campers. My visit to the area was quite stressful and this amazing gem of gated natural surroundings, nestled in the Tennessee foothills was exactly the cure. Soul restoring at its best, thank you Thomas! I look forward to visiting again with time to take in more of the historical side of this area. I highly reccomend Running Water Creek Campground to all tent campers, small camp trailers and folks who would enjoy an inviting A-Frame cabin nestled in the trees. The delightful added bonus was visiting with the adorable, friendly hounds. Definitely brought a smile to see them for a wee moment each day.

Running Water Creek Campground is an absolute hidden gem and a must-visit for any nature lover! The location is stunning, offering breathtaking, panoramic views of the surrounding mountains that provide a perfect backdrop for every sunrise and campfire. Beyond the natural beauty, the atmosphere here feels wonderfully secure. The sites are well-maintained, and the friendly staff and the sense of community create a truly safe and welcoming environment. We had a great stay for the night at Running Water Campground. There was almost no one around, so it felt very private and cozy! There are several areas around the property for tent camping, some of them you need 4WD to access - but definitely more private. We stayed at the bottom near the bath house since there was a good set up there already. The sinks came in handy for washing our dishes too!
We didn't really mind the trains, but you can hear them. If you are a light sleeper or have kids, maybe not the best spot for you. Everyone leaving bad reviews because of the trains - not cool! Thomas is very up front about it, and good luck finding a better spot in the area. We looked for over an hour for a good campground before we found this gem. Thomas was an excellent host! The dogs were friendly and Thomas even made sure to stop by and thank us for our stay. This is one of my favorite places that I've camped! The view of the stars is so lovely. Highly recommend!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay for two nights. The hospitality it top shelf. The hosts are super friendly, kind, and considerate. They truly put forth the effort for people to enjoy their stay. From petting and feeding the horses, to meeting Miss Daisy the adorable monkey, to the pool it was great. Having access to coffee in the mornings to having use of the grill it elevated the experience. We will be back for another stay. Thank Y'all

Amazing campground. Nice clean areas. Showers were clean and the dishwashing area was much needed. Only complaint is the train horns all night. Got visited by a pack of super friendly puppies that made the visit.

Huge tent platform up front, dry firewood, fire ring, circle K down the road, right off the highway, friendly dogs, bonus points because my fire ring had wood in it ready to go. Adorable cabins. Specifically, one right next to the water on the immediate left after the shed. I’d highly recommend the cabins. Little to no bugs.
The negative reviews for this place blew me away. Yes there is a train and it’s loud, fellow campers were silent. I’ve yet to find a campground that is easily accessible from the highway to be completely silent. If that’s what you want you need 4x4 or a backpack full of gear, and in fact if you did there are more spots up the mountain that would be dead silent I bet. Let’s be real here. $25 a night is a good deal for a traveler like me. Firewood looked good. 1 bundle would last the night, unlike other cheap $5 bundles I’ve found. Plenty of dead dry stuff.
My recommendation is get a cabin, bundle of firewood. Go see Chattanooga.

Running Water Creek Campground was a perfect spot to cool off in the shade for a few days. Tom was a great host and has done a lot of work on the property to keep it from disappearing into the forest. Walked a few trails and my dog and I enjoyed the locals dogs keeping us company. I read the reviews and was prepared for the location, tbh it was a perfect boondock spot for my Skoolie! Will visit again as a safe spot on my way through the area.
