When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more. Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. Our home was built in 1895 by a scottish immigrant Joe Campbell. THe land was farmed for many years. When Miss Hazel, Joe's daughter died, the property was sold or inherited. We are blessed to own the home which has been renovated and 8 acres of the original property. Guests are welcome to stroll our land across the road and visit our many gardens and sitting areas or simply enjoy the serenity of the cabin and surrounding land and mountain stream.

When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. We traveled as a family of 4 and two dogs and we had a wonderful time at Ocean Blue cabin. Exceptional host and cabin was amazing. We had everything and more to has such a great time. Hiking trail on the property was perfect for our young kids. We took it twice and met friendly cows on top of the hill. Hot tub was a perfect spot for after hike and evening watching the stars! We will definitely come back and bring friends with us!

Kevin's cabins was well stocked with all the essentials, clean, well furnished, and cozy. Great for couples! The hot tub was clean and warm upon arrival. Fire pit ready for use or cooking food over with the supplied grilling grate and fresh firewood stacked close by. Ocean Blue is a wonderful place to get away from it all for a relaxing stay. Would absolutely recommend to others.

3 nights at A Tiny A-Frame 15 acres creek front

We stayed at the A-frame cabin for three nights and had a great time. The spot is tucked nicely into the woods, far enough from the main road to feel private. There’s a small road off to the right, but the sound of the creek next to the cabin easily masks any passing cars. The place had everything we needed. There’s a full setup for cooking, a fridge and freezer, and a futon. The futon mattress is a little thin though, and you can feel the frame underneath. I brought a tri-fold memory foam topper, which fixed that completely. When the futon is extended, you can fit a twin mattress on the floor beside it, but that’s about the max you’ll get in there comfortably. The outhouse was surprisingly nice, with no strong odor. The whole property feels peaceful and remote, nestled in the western part of North Carolina. The internet handled work calls fine, and if you need faster speeds, the local library in town has solid high-speed access. Everyone we met was friendly. Dennis and Ashley were great hosts and stayed in touch the whole time. We’ll definitely be coming back. It’s the perfect home base for hiking around western North Carolina.

What a wonderful place to stay! I'm a middle-aged woman with joint pain, and initially I was nervous that the crawl to the bed in the loft would be too much for me, but I figured out how to shuffle along, and by the time I left I was so sad to be going and didn't even feel bothered by the tight maneuvering. I stayed for a week while in town for a work thing. I primarily was there later at night and it was so special. The whole space is so thoughtfully done, the lighting just builds the mood, and there are so many wonderful touches. I used the gas fire pit outside a lot more than I expected, and I loved sitting in the hot tub listening to all of the sounds of nature. I absolutely hope to come back in the future! I didn't get to try the sauna, which hopefully I will be able to do in the future. And Kellie was very helpful throughout the stay with any of the needs I had.

Weekend Trip to Plumtree Campground Tents & Cabins

Plumtree Campground was a great experience for my family. We stayed in the primitive cabin and it was much roomier than the pictures make it look. Also a lovely view of the mountains from our porch. There is a nice little playground that my daughters loved and even a hiking trail on the grounds. On our second night there was live music which made the experience even more special. The owners and managers were wonderfully nice and helpful. It’s a clean environment and very family friendly. We will definitely be going back!

Just an amazing and dreamy little place nestled in the mountain's. My husband and I wanted a way to disconnect for our anniversary and enjoy some peace and quiet without the kids. This was the perfect place!! This little house is so well equipped to make your weekend feel like a private spa getaway and no need for anything more. We didn’t cook while there but well equipped to do so, and everything is thoughtfully provided. There was even a bag of popcorn to pop and some pancake mix if you needed. Really sweet touches. We enjoyed the spa with wonderful views, had a beautiful bathroom to shower up after, relaxed on the deck in the comfy chairs and even took advantage of the his and hers robes which we loved. I highly recommend this place for a get away and hope to return again. The host is top notch in his communication and we really appreciated his guidance on things we were looking for in the area (ie eateries). Thanks for sharing a little peace of your property with us for our special weekend.

This was an enjoyable stay, just what we needed for our A.T. trip. Just right for me and my Dad. Very basic, but comfortable enough. Enjoyed the outdoor shower once they turned the water on to it. $100/night after all the annoying taxes and fees are worked in is on the extreme high end for something this small and basic. But it worked for us. Would not have been as enjoyable if the weather wasn't really nice because it's too small to spend much awake time inside. Good place if you're able to sit on the covered porch, which we did. One slightly awkward thing is that the gate that you close when you enter the outdoor shower has gaps that are too large, and anyone walking by could easily look into see you.

Weekend Trip to Pink Fox Cove Cabin

We enjoyed our stay at Kellie’s place. It is in a quiet location and the house is such a cute little gem. It had everything we needed for a quick weekend trip. The hot tub was great to use and is in a private setting which fit perfectly with the whole ambience. There is a sauna on site for a fee which we didn’t get to use it unfortunately, due to our time limitations, I hope to be back and step up that relaxation game a bit. Kellie is very kind and it is true when she tells you to look out for her little doggies, they will run up to the car. They are extremely sweet and friendly and we enjoyed their enthusiasm.

I most appreciated the peacefulness and tranquility of being surrounded by nature. It was so nice to only hear the creek next door and see no one other than a deer and rabbit. Everything was thought of and provided and the entire place was clean and comfortable - even the porta-potty! Can’t wait to go back for another retreat! The accommodations were exactly as described, the grill was great, and the whole experience was just lovely. Favorite thing was listening to the rain on the metal porch roof laying in the hammock with my dog 💖
