Bear Den is a small camp with 3 Glamping Tents, 2 cabins and shower house. Outdoor spaces for relaxing. We are located approximately 5 miles from Custer State Park, 11 miles from Keystone the Gateway to Mt. Rushmore in the beautiful southern Black Hills. Property description Our property is nestled between Hwy 385, the Mickelson Trail, and the National Forest. We are located between Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park along Hwy 385 and the Mickelson Trail; about 30 minutes from Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Mountain. The nearest towns with restaurants are Pringle, (2 miles S); Hot Springs, (24 miles S), Custer, (9.5 miles N).; Hill City, (24 miles N), and Rapid City, (50 miles N). The blacktop driveway grants easy access for every type of vehicle. A couple of ponds, creeks, and dispersed willow, pine, and aspen trees enhance the diversity and beauty of the landscape. It is peaceful here and we enjoy sharing it with our guests during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Plenty Star Ranch Retreat has our home, a big pole barn (RV storage), a garage/wood workshop with an attached restroom for all guests, a regular hot water shower cabin, 2 small home-built camping log cabins, 7 RV sites, 9 clearly marked tent and car-camping sites, and several water hydrants fed by our well, providing great quality drinking water. 2 pets maximum per campsite, no pets allowed when booking a cabin. Check-In is 2 pm to 9 pm; Check-Out is 10 am for the cabins and 11 am for all other sites.

Weekend Trip to Bear Den Cabins & Camp

Tammy's place was everything we wanted - its cozy, remote but in the heart of so much beauty. We got in at sunset and were able to take our dog on a night stroll up her hill for a very peaceful evening. The heat in our cabin was NICE and made it extra cozy. The bathroom / shower set up was top notch - sooo clean! 10/10 recommend this place! + Tammy is such a friendly, kind, good human!

And fabulously maintained by Tammy and her husband! They are the icing on the cake - great hosts! I initially booked 2 nights and ended up adding 3, I loved it so much. I will definitely be back.

Tammy has thought of everything to make a stay on their beautiful land comfortable. The clean restroom and shower house stocked with toiletries. Fluffy towels and pretty quilts on the comfortable bed. Lights and fans and charging station for phones. The cooking area was great- a gas grill and tables and chairs under a roof, and everything was clean and well maintained. For an easy, comfortable experience where you still feel close to the outdoors, I highly recommend!

Nothing but good things to say. First off, Tammy is the sweetest host. This was our first time booking a place off Hipcamp and it was the best experience. We got there a bit late but Tammy was communicative and understanding. The place was beautiful, well maintained, and clean. It’s a little confusing getting there but Tammy made it clear and helped us out when Apple Maps took us to the wrong spot. Excellent amenities, comfortable space, and an even better host.

Tammy’s awesome and has a really sweet spot! The amenities are way more than we could’ve hoped for in a glamping experience. We got rained out on a hike our second day and returned to camp to find that our site held up just great. The bath house was very convenient and incredibly clean/well maintained. There were several other kind campers there at the same time as us. Their tents were a little closer to us than we initially anticipated based on the pictures, but we still had our privacy. Her site would be the perfect place if you’ve got a group of friends wanting to have an outdoor stay with all of the luxuries of hot running water/bathrooms, covered outdoor grilling area, ice access & laundry. 10/10 would love to stay again ♥️

Tammy is a wonderful person and takes care of an incredible place. She was communicative before, during, and after my arrival. I appreciated her greeting me and showing me around the space. The Bear Den itself is such a lovely and comfortable place to stay, and all of the amenities and facilities are generously offered and cared for, including clean bathrooms and towels, laundry, fridge space, coffee, and snacks. Tammy herself is such a big-hearted, warm person and I am so glad I was able to spend two nights here. I have been traveling solo on a roadtrip and I felt very safe and like I had returned home and could really lean into resting at this point in my journey. I highly recommend staying here and hope I am able to return one day. Thank you Tammy!

Tammy’s property was the perfect combination of peaceful and convenient to Rapid City & Custer State Park. We stayed in one of the permanent structure-style tents and were so impressed by all of her thoughtful touches and amenities. The bathroom buildings are immaculate, and the private shower stalls were appreciated. She has a kitchen area set up with coffee provided - which we appreciated every morning before our hikes. The tent was spotless and the queen size bed was comfortable. Tammy and her husband Tim are so friendly and welcoming, you will feel right at home.

We stayed in the glamping tent! It was so cute and well laid out! The rainfall shower was relaxing and had the best water pressure. The description of the tent said one queen bed and one twin over full bunk- it was definitely twin over twin so max stay would be 4 people. And I know it’s outside and camping but there were a ton of spiders:) No complaints as it is camping but it surprised me how many of those little guys made their way in to the tent! The campground was clean and so many things to do including swimming, hot tub, jumping pillow, horseshoes, mini golf, live music and food truck on Friday night. The campground does sit on a busy highway so the pool and golf area are a bit noisy- the campsites close to the road would likely hear traffic noise as well. The glamping sites are in back of the park and very quiet with a nice forest view. It was really close to a ton of area attractions- we did Bear country 2 minutes away, Cosmos mystery area 10 minutes away, Mount Rushmore 20 minutes away, and Custer State Park about 35 minutes away! 10 minutes to Rapid City businesses if you need groceries or forgot something.
