The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions. Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization. Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. You can listen to an interview on The Christian Witness Program on this page for some history about Moire and Randy in Tennessee where they were residing before coming to Indiana. They are producing lamb, wool for spinning and felting, and hay and are opening up the farm for small events such as weddings or family reunions. Moire is also the author and illustrator of a children's book available for sale on iBooks called Sissy & The King. In November of 2014, with the help of Hilltop Baptist Church and many others, they began hosting an event, LIFE Nativity, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which benefits Life-Way Pregnancy Center. Moire is also a fine artist and gives classes on wool felting. Ask about signing up for a class or book a private felting party.

All ready for your summer expedition! Completely sealed up and draft free. Still a very primitive site, but the interior now keeps in the warmth from the fireplace. A set of bunk beds and a 4 seat table as well as some cots makes it work for up to 6 people. Plenty of tent area around of you have a bigger group! Sunnyday's farm and forest was a Christmas tree farm in the 1950's. I've owned it for the last 40 years and it is now a horse farm with pastures and woods. Rustic area of 25 acres of pastures and forest bordering a hundred of acres of railroad and municipal forest. Great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking. 1.5 miles from Deer Lakes park which has fishing, hiking, mountain biking, frisbee course and a great playground. The Allegheny river, judged to be one of the cleanest in the country, is just 6 miles away. Harrison Hills park offers great hiking along the river and an occasional river otter. The Rachel Carson Trail and Baker trail are just a few miles away. It is a secluded log cabin in the woods on top of a hill overlooking a pasture. It is a very primitive cabin with a fireplace, brick floor, large porch, fabric interior and no chinking in the logs. We provide a bunk bed and cots and a picnic table. There is a large grassy area in front of the cabin for tents. There is no vehicle access, no electricity and no water at the cabin, but LOTS of downed wood for fires. There are horses, goats, chickens, ducks and a pig that roam the pastures. The cabin is about 300 yards from the parking area up a fairly steep hill, but the location is worth the walk! If you're stopping with an RV or trailer we have ample parking near the road and have overnight accommodations for horses Great place for a stopover.

We are located in beautiful Clearfield county Pennysalvina. Our farm is on over 150 acres. It’s has been in the family for generations. It has beautiful farm views with wooded areas. There is lots of wildlife to see. Including bear, bobcat, deer, eagles, fishers, and many other species. We have lots of hiking trails and our property also boarders state game lands. It’s a short drive to the Susquehanna River and other parks. You can also enjoy the cows, goats, peacocks, chickens, ducks, and turkeys at the farm. Contact the host and set up a time to visit and feed the animals. Learn more about our family farm and the animals. We also have a sawmill and wood shop. Nearby is Bilgers Rocks, Rock Run Atv Park, Prince Gallitzin State Park, the Susquehanna River, and many other fantastic outdoor activities. It’s a place to unwind and relax. And connect with nature. This is in a very rural part of Pennsylvania and camping in the winter weather can be difficult. So please prepare yourself with additional sleeping bags for winter. The tent is heated but because of the unpredictable and sometimes dangerous weather you need to be prepared. The bathroom is also outdoors so there will not be a shower provided till after the freezing weather. And the loo is not heated. It is also recommended that you have all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive to get to the campsite in the winter. It is possible to walk from road to site. But you should consider this when booking. RTR is a very beautiful place in the winter but it can also be dangerous if you’re not prepared.

Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Camp is on 50 acres with a pink marked trail to Red Bank Creek on the western border and back up through a hemlock forest along south border. A small stream runs through the property and forms a rocky delta in Red Bank Creek. All camp sites are on the eastern border and close to the main road to access property. Hike, enjoy the sound of the stream tickling through property, stargaze, or rest, watch nature's critters, read or just relax in a hammock. Our property is close to Allegheny River access with a local boat ramp in Reesdale, and a fishing pier at Lock 8. From here, you can take the locks all the way to Pittsburgh. Several ATV trails have easy access because you can legally ride on the township roads! A lot of wildlife to see, including deer, bear, fox, coyote, several bird species, and bald eagles. There is a bar/restaurant close by in Adrian. It's 10 miles to downtown Kittanning, where festivals and concerts in the park are held, plus more restaurants, stores, and rails to trails for bike riders. There are fishing ponds and large glacial rock formations nearby. Tours to the places mentioned can be scheduled for a fee if we're available. We will have a small map of the area with places marked. You're welcome to cut and use fallen trees. Please don't bring firewood from other counties due to the spread of diseases and destructive insects. Weekend Trip to Mountain View Camping

The a frame was super cute, kept us dry, and the the restroom set up was really convenient. The land is beautiful, with a little stream, mossy and lush. No complaints other than the aframe is not sealed like a tent would be, so there were a lot of bugs in there all night. Not just mosquitoes or flies but spiders, caterpillars, slugs, ect. There is a really nice mattress in there, but its a single so it makes the set up much better suited to one person. Although he did provide a pretty nice inflatable camp pad for the second person, just was not the comfiest or most roomy but thats to be expected and of no fault to the host. There is a bit of a walk down a trail from the parking area to the camping area. The host was kind and very communicative.

A beautiful and serene landscape, Donnie's small but ample farm backdrop was inviting and welcoming. The off-grid cabin set back in the woods was very private and nestled, with a cool evening temperature because of the wooded canopy. I recommend keeping the "screen" door open to fall asleep to the sounds of crickets.

3 nights at Lily Pad Cabin & Mojo's Loft

The wife and I stayed at the Lily pad cabin for 4 nights. It was very relaxing sitting on the porch overlooking the woods and the neighboring farm land. We watched many deer and a few turkey’s. The cabin has a full kitchen, living area with nice furniture and comfortable bedding. We enjoyed the fire pit and the Lily pond with a fountain. The owners were great, we spoke with them numerous times and they really enjoy what they are doing, thank you.

1 night at Freedom Run Ranch Equestrian Camp

As soon as we pulled in to freedom run Ranch we knew we would enjoy ourselves. The horses had a great place to stay with big grassy pens and stalls for nighttime in a big old Beautiful barn. The owners were very gracious and helped us with everything. The Cabin is super cute! There are nice places to sit outside in the shade. I would definitely recommend a stay here. Though we only stayed one night, on our trip through the area, we would definitely stay again.

Ridge Top Retreat is a fantastic peaceful getaway in Appalachian farm country (thanks again for the farm tour, we loved the friendly goats). Rebecca has already thought of literally everything so that you don’t have to; odds are good that if you forgot it, it’s already covered. Amazing attention to detail, every last thing is cute, inviting, comfortable, and well thought out - you can tell that she genuinely cares about your visitor experience. The site itself offers a beautiful view of the countryside that you might see in a painting. The campfire is cozy with lots of tree canopy and comfortable even in light rain. Having ample firewood already on site makes it so much easier. Every one of the extras and amenities make all the difference (a hot shower is a BIG one). I would highly recommend anyone who wants a calm, safe, relaxing, and comfortable experience to have a visit.

Gerard's property is a wonderful place to stay, and he is super communicative, flexible, and generous! I loved meeting his animals - especially his dog. We brought carrots for the horses, who are super friendly. The cabin is in really good condition and is warm and waterproof. We stayed in tents however as we wanted to sleep outside. There is lots of space for tents but it was great to also have a nice dry place for storage and dining during a rainy weekend. My friends and I spent some time in Pittsburgh and it is very easy to get to the city from Gerard's property, only about 30 minutes. I would highly recommend staying here!

We spent one night on Gerard’s property and it was so relaxing to get away from the local “noise”. The cabin was great especially during the sudden rain storm that rolled through a few hours after we got there. We already had our tent set up for the night and slept under the stars. Around 11pm the horses were up around the tent and we were greeted by them on our way out the next morning. We had plenty of wood for our camp fire that he set up by the cabin and there was a lot of down branches that we collected and used as well. Communication was very thorough on where everything was, where to go, lock codes, etc. The outhouse was extremely clean too! We would definitely stay again and would love to experience some horseback riding!

1 night at Lily Pad Cabin & Mojo's Loft

I don't have words big enough to describe how wonderful Mojo's Loft is. I felt the peace I was seeking as I pulled up. The area directly around the loft is beautiful and serene. Across the driveway, there's a pond with a water feature. To the one side is a man made waterfall. They are both so pretty. I walked up the few steps to the tiny fenced in yard and was again greeted with a tranquil setting. There is a concrete patio with some seating and tables, a gas grill, and a fire pit. The yard is tiny, but enough to let your fur baby get some fresh air or enjoy the sunshine. Upon entering the loft, all I felt was a warm welcome. It felt very happy and comfortable. The tiny kitchen area has everything you need for a quick meal. The dining table has enough room for a couple of guests. The queen size bed is comfortable and inviting. The living room area is perfectly furnished with a recliner and reclining couch. There's even a little desk to read through the pamphlets, menus, maps, and guest book Tamara so thoughtfully provided. The bathroom is very nice, complete with a bathtub/shower. There is internet available if you need it. There's a window air conditioner that cools the loft completely and am electric fireplace that in sure is marvelous in the cooler months. Please be sure to read the binder! Find out about their charitable donations to animal rescues and K9s! That just makes this little place so much better in my book.

I stayed in the hayloft one night. I slept in a sleeping bag on a sleeping pad on a yoga mat and I was very comfortable (even though I had back surgery 2 months ago). I read the bad review someone else left and all I can say is if you don't like hay or the smell of horses, it's probably not for you. It's definitely rustic but I found it comforting and pretty cool. The animals are all great and it's really quiet and peaceful up the slope behind the barn - great for birdwatching or just sitting outside. I will definitely come back next time I go through that part of PA. The host is lovely and seems to have a big heart for animals. I'm allergic to artificial fragrances people insist on using at AirBnBs, so this is a great alternative for people like me who don't mind roughing it a little bit and love being around animals.
