Margaux is a 1969 Airstream Bambi tucked into a quiet garden in PDX. She may be small, but she’s full of light, charm, and nostalgia. Put a record on, slip into the hot tub, or just curl up and enjoy the city from your own little hideaway. Inside you’ll find a kitchenette, pull out bed, and simple glamping-style bathroom. The backyard, screened porch, chimenea, and spa tub are all yours to enjoy year round. Towels, linens, shampoo, coffee, and basic cooking supplies are provided. Our commissary offers wine, beer, and pre-rolls for purchase (let us know if you would prefer these items removed). The airstream is located just steps to the Clackamas River. Guests have access to a private trail through old growth forest and river access. We are about 40 minutes from downtown Portland, and about 45 minutes to Timberline Lodge. We are directly across the river from Milo McIver State Park. The Airstream is on a flat, grassy spot in our park-like vacant lot with fruit trees and several giant old growth trees. There are neighbors, so it's not a secluded area, but it is convenient to the many hiking trails, frisbee golf, mushroom hunting, skiing, fishing, floating. You can listen to the river lull you to sleep. We will provide "float pick up" for an additional $50/fee.

I highly recommend; I’ve stayed in multiple b&bs + camping locations in Portland, and this has by far been the best. This hipcamp is everything — it’s beyond cute, it’s in a good location, it has all the major amenities, and has the warmest host. We felt so safe here and so creative. The size was perfect for two people and one tiny dog, and it’s obvious that a great deal of care has been integrated into every detail of this airstream.

Comfy bed…check! Quiet, beautiful property…check! Blackberry bushes…check! A friendly kitty that comes to greet you…check! We loved our stay here and would definitely stay again if we came back to the area. I only wish we could’ve stayed longer and enjoyed the outdoor space and corn hole game.

Susan’s place was perfect! She’s a wonderful host—friendly, welcoming, and easy to communicate with. The property has beautiful views and such a peaceful vibe, but still feels tucked away and quiet. We loved how close it was to Portland, and the location made it super convenient to pop over to Edgefield or grab a snack at Sugarpine Drive-In. Can’t wait to come back!

I was having a very tough week, in the Portland area for work. Convinced myself to spend a little money on myself and take a couple much needed days to just exist. From the moment I walked down the drive and saw margaux’s string lights my heart warmed and I felt like I was arriving safely home. Which as a nomad, is not something I say a lot. The photos and amenities were on point, the hot water piping to take a lil camp shower to warm your bones or the hot tub, and it was close to anything you might need, even walking distance. Kayla and the whole fam were kind and easy to chat with, but there was plenty of quiet time. If you’re an animal lover, the pups and even kitty were really part of the lovely experience of being out in the cute backyard as well. A lot of love has gone into Margaux and you can feel it! I plan to return again soon. Gratitude to Kayla for creating such a lovely space and sharing it!

Where to go

Willamette Valley Wine Country

If you like wine, you’re in the right place—Sherwood itself has a few wineries and is but a short drive from many, many more. You’ll find some of the highest concentration of wineries in the nearby towns of Dundee, Yamhill, Newberg, and McMinnville.

Along the Willamette River

The Willamette is the closest major river to Sherwood, and is flanked with beautiful green spaces and state and county parks. Popular spots within a short drive include Molalla River State Park, Champoeg State Park, and the San Salvador Beach and Boat Launch.

Along the Clackamas River

East of Sherwood, the Clackamas River is known for its fishing, whitewater rafting, and summertime swimming opportunities. It’s also flanked with some great recreation areas, including the Milo McIver State Park, a darling among disc golfers.

When to go

If you’re looking to camp or spend a lot of time outdoors, try to plan your visit for July, August, or September, when temperatures are generally warm and the chance of rain is low. Temperatures begin to drop in October and things don’t often warm up again until April, but while autumn, winter, and spring in this region can be rainy, temperatures rarely drop much below freezing.
