The campsite overlooks over 600 acres of peaceful grassy knolls which takes the viewer back in time. See below for a bit of local history and things to see while in the area. Our campsites are BYOS sites: We do not provide outhouses or tent potties at our sites, so you must bring your own. We do, however, provide a full restroom with shower/bath at the main house during reasonable hours and have a septic for you to dispose of your waste (during open hours) so you don't have to travel with it. Welcome and we hope you enjoy yourselves and get a glimpse of a little bit of what our tierheim visitors enjoy when they come here.
Local History
About 65 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, near the junction of Highways 81 and 17, was a sign that said: "Welcome to Rush Springs, home of 1500 happy faces and a few old soreheads."
Now the sign says: "Welcome to Rush Springs." Also, there is a giant
watermelon slice indicating that Rush Springs is also the Watermelon Capital.
Rush Springs gets its name from the large springs near the head of Rush Creek from which the town gets its water supply. It is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) settlements in Grady County, Oklahoma.
The history of Rush Springs may be divided into six periods.
The first period leads up to 1858. The springs served as a camping site for Indian tribes from very early days. The Wichita Indians settled on Rush
Creek about four miles southeast of the present town around 1850. It was at this place that the famous "Battle of the Wichita Village" was fought between the Comanches and the United States Calvary on October 1, 1858. After this battle, the Wichitas fled to Fort Arbuckle.
The second period deals with the Chisholm cattle trail (1865-1892). Thousands of heads of cattle were driven northward across the territory over this trail from Texas to Kansas. This trail passed about one and a half miles east of the town, and the springs served as a watering place for the cattle. This trail ceased to be
used after the railroad was built across the territory in 1892. Parts of this trail can still be seen today.
The third period covers the years 1871-1878. Fort Sill had just been established. Supplies had to be shipped to Fort Sill from points in the eastern part of Indian Territory. After the building of the railroad across the eastern part of the territory, Caddo became the main shipping point. Rush Springs was between Caddo and Fort Sill. A stage stand was built and a little town sprang up. When the government freight station was moved from Caddo to Texas, the little town nearly died.
The years 1878-1892 make up the fourth period. The "Huntley Ranch" was established on Rush Creek near the site of the old Wichita Village. The ranch became a stage stand and a freight station for local settlers. A post office, known as "Parr," was established at this place in 1883. In 1892, this post office was moved to Rush Springs.
The fifth period begins in the year 1892, when the Rock Island Railroad came through the springs. It became a government freight station to Fort Sill for nine years, resulting in rapid growth of the town.
The sixth period dates from 1901 when the Rock Island Railroad lines were extended to Fort Sill and Lawton, thus ceasing the freight trade at Rush Springs. The town has since depended on ranching, farming and oil interest for its existence.

Loved tent camping on Hippie Hill! Be sure to grab a bite to eat before or after your Medicine Park/Wichitas adventures! LOVE THEM! First time camping although I’ve visited their cafe previously. I endlessly recommend the stay! Hosts and cafe staff are so kind. I definitely recommend camping as high up the hill as you’re able to go. Further from the road and more into nature. You’re likely to see deer and elk, and maybe even hear some coyotes. They have camper-style bathroom facilities which is very convenient, and even allow you to use the cafe facilities during operating hours. I hope to stay many more times in the future!! This is a convenient place to camp if visiting St Jo, Nocona, or Muenster. I stayed in site #10, which was close to the camp shower. This and other sites are very spacious. It was very quiet at night, and the ranch is well maintained. Did not visit the tasting room up the hill, but would like to come back in the fall. The showers and camp toilet are rustic, but it is camping and they were clean.

We stayed at the 4R Ranch for 2 nights/3 days and very much enjoyed it. We are likely not representative of most campers there, since we were in a 34-foot Class A RV. I was clear about our size and the host was very helpful, telling us they had one spot that was "ok" for our RV. He provided details on the 30-amp electrical, and the fact that there was a water spigot available... but no sewage connection. We were okay with all that. Upon arriving in the area, the last several miles of roads were dirt, but the roads were actually quite good, overall. There were a couple of tight turns, and one steep downhill just before we arrived, but nothing that was worrisome. The location of RV Site #2 was quite good, being very close to the entrance, not too challenging to get into place, but you definitely needed to stay within the "driveway" or the RV would lean way too much to use the stabilizing pads. We have long leads for our power and water, so that wasn't an issue. From the perspective of beauty, it was a great spot with nice forest all around, a nice view of some hills, and the closest neighbors couldn't be seen or heard, so, quite a nice spot. We didn't use the shower hut (about a city-block distance away), but I did visit it to see what it looked like, and the water (pull a chain) was cold at first but warmed up after a minute, so it would have been ok to use, despite being very rustic. The only negative during our stay was, no WiFi, even though it says there is WiFi.

Site #7 was the perfect spot for 6 and a dog with plenty of room to spare. It was about a 5-7 min walk to the porta potty bathroom and shower house. Those were nothing to write home about and were missing hand soap and hand sanitizer in their respective containers. Just gotta thug in out when camping sometimes. Really appreciate the provided firewood, we never came close to running out. Winery and their staff were extremely accommodating and kind. Out group all agreed we’d come back.

We had an amazing stay at Darrell and Kelli’s yurt! The location was perfect! Super close to Medicine Park, yet still felt completely secluded and peaceful. We had the entire site to ourselves, which made it even more special. The on-site amenities were easy to access and thoughtfully set up, and we loved exploring the hiking trail right on the property. Darrell and Kelli also gave us great recommendations for things to do in the area, which made planning effortless. Most importantly, we felt safe and comfortable the entire time. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!

We stayed at 14 and 15 with our group. We loved the mix of sun and shade and the privacy with these sites. Our kids had a blast and everyone has agreed we want to go back. We even got visited by a camp kitty and he was very sweet and we fell in love with him along with the location. The winery had an amazing patio na view and loved the tasting. Honestly the pictures just don’t do the location justice.
