This 55 acre park is home of a large sandstone that contains 8 markings believed to have been made by Vikings many years ago. The park features a seasonal waterfall, covered picnic areas, playground, amphitheater with seating, community building, scenic views, gift shop and approximately 2 miles of nature trails. Be advised that most tent sites have a tent pad but a few are primitive mountain terrain (rocky). The one RV site is for 16 ft. or less vehicles and smaller teardrop trailers with limited hook-up and no dump station. Restroom and shower facilities are located within the park. Honest review. Darrel was amazing. Wears a lot of hats and makes sure we are taken care of. He suggested to use the restaurant bathroom from 30 min before open to 30 minutes after close. During the night there are camping toilets in private rooms behind the restaurant. Not my favorite but they have long open hours so it really is for just in the middle of the night use. We decided not to cook but there were grills available outside. Had a few common seating areas for watching sunsets and sunrises. Common campfire that Darrel started and provided wood for, himself. We ate all our meals at the cafe. They are very considerate of food allergies preferences no sugar or lots of sugar if needed. Full bar, the chocolate drop martini was delish. Coffee was awesome. Had almond and oatmilk low sugar. Healthy choices from quinoa, black bean burgers house cut fries, latino favorites like hueve rancheros, teas, yerba mate, beer. Turmeric lattes. Very fresh tasting and yummy. They had real egg or imitation eggs or “cheggs” also had real chicken or crushed chickpeas in the quesadillas. Lots of choices. Servers were prompt and kind. The room was cute in decor, bed was comfortable and I have lower sacrum problems and it didn’t hurt to sleep on it. I was hoping there would be a tent heater but there was not one so we used the blankets that were very comfy on the bed and an extra sleeping bag and was very cozy. The tents did have condensation. Weekend Trip to Bigfoot County Campgrounds

Found some trees perfect for a hammock, hiked down the rock trail, made a campfire cake, had camp coffee and enjoyed the scenery. It was my kind of party. Camper was in good shape, smelled and looked clean. Having a flushable toilet, a queen size bed to sleep in, and the option to use the stove were all very convenient (especially with a 4 year old). Great place for the price, I enjoyed the atmosphere and it was peaceful and fun. Host was responsive.

Weekend Trip to Heavener Runestone Park

My family and I loved tent camping here! The views were beautiful! We were at site #8, it was very pretty and peaceful. Lots of trees for nice shade and great spot for a hammock. There even happened to be a big event at the overlook one of the days we were there, but there was still enough separation that it wasn’t too loud and we still felt like we had our privacy. The Runestone didn’t disappoint! We thought it was cool. We really enjoyed hiking the trails too.

Watching the sunset at this location was breathtaking! The campsite, restroom, grounds, and gift shop were clean and well maintained. Everyone there was friendly and very informative. We came for an educational event that was fun and well organized. My family loved every moment of our stay from hiking, seeing the runestone, and tent camping!

The campsite was absolutely lovely! The forest felt more like the Black Hills, SD. I had no idea Oklahoma could look like this. It was SO peaceful I could've been 100 miles from civilization, yet Hevener was nestled beautifully in the valley below. Hearing those spooky train horns every hour or so was neat-my boy couldn't get enough! The short hike to the runestone was fun, and that sweet young lady in the gift shop went outta her way for our yard game. What a cozy Oklahoma spot! Terrain was a bit rough and steep and rocky so be advised.

Excellent campsite for our first time visiting the park! The trails were great and easy to navigate, amenities offered worked well, and the host was communicative too. If you plan to stay at this campsite (or probably anywhere in the park), just be mindful there’s a very active train station below the park so you’ll hear it both day & night—earplugs were an essential for me. However, that doesn’t deter my recommendation. The fall leaves were gorgeous, so we picked the perfect weekend to stay.

Weekend Trip to Hippie Hill

I really enjoyed my stay at Hippie Hill! I booked the Zion Tent for my first night of my stay in the Wichita Mountains. I had never been to the area and it was nice to have a stay in town to get the lay of the land before venturing into the park. The bed was super comfortable, and the tent was nice and warm and protected me from the heavy winds. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. It is right in the center of the town and the cafe provided a delicious meal and coffee before I started out on my hike the next day. My only critique is that the guest outhouse was locked overnight, but I was able to use the cafe bathroom during business hours. There is some road noise so it’s not necessarily a secluded sort of experience. But it was nice to enjoy a soft bed after a long day of travel before camping the next 2 nights! Again the owners and the cafe were really nice. I’d definitely recommend this spot for someone who wants to enjoy Medicine Park during their trip to the Wildlife Refuge.

Weekend Trip to Heavener Runestone Park

A quaint little park with unique history and the perfect hikes for beginners or those needing an hour to waltz with nature. You're outside of town but not so far away that running back for something you forgot to be a real problem. Campsites are as you would expect, a platform that is just big enough for our large sundome tent (8 person), a firepit and metal grill for each site and a concrete and wood picnic table. They even have shepherd hooks for campers to hang a lantern or lights. The camping area is lit up at night by a string of bulb lights, giving just enough glow to get down to the bathrooms without being a nuisance when trying to sleep. A wonderful setup for a relaxing weekend. My son and I were the only people in the park at one point and it was very peaceful. Crows, woodpeckers, and squirrels abound but not much else in the way of wildlife. A definite for families or someone looking for a quiet place to pitch a tent or hang a hammock.

Wonderful rustic park! First is the runestone, whose conjecture seems entirely plausible and fascinating! Second, the park was developed around 1970 and looks like it’s basically been unchanged. Third, it’s just plain beautiful. The staff are awesome and very responsive. We loved it.

Creek side cabin was perfect for us! Wonderful community, secluded cabin, and friendly people and animals. Hailey was kind enough to spend the morning with us and share some amazing cacao while we meditated. Highly recommend! Also close to several hiking trails in the ancient forest.
