Heartland Homestead is the perfect spot for you to enjoy away from home and in nature. With dreamy vibes and open skies, you can relax in our tent camping spots around Mother Oak or reserve a glamping cabin for a true unplugged experience - but make it comfy cozy. Depending on the time of year + season, you may see our goats, cows, pigs, chickens, or more! We may have pick-your-own tomatoes, pumpkins, + flowers as well Glamping Cabins We have two glamping cabins that include beds and lanterns so you get the feel of sleeping in nature but comfortably. Each cabin has a picnic table, fire pit, and charcoal grill. One cabin has a queen-size bed and the second has a full-size bed and a trundle bed with 2 twin-size mattresses. The cabins do not have electric or water. A porta-potty is located near the barn (a 5 minute walk) and a lug-able loo or portapotty will be available closer to the cabins depending on when you stay. We are happy to help get your gear back to the cabins with the farm cart and then it is an 8-minute walk along a hay pasture to the parking area. Tent Camping Our tent camping spots are located under Mother Oak, a 100-year-old oak tree in the middle of our farm. With ample shade, a fire pit, and nearby portapotty, you can relax under the stars into the night. Hiking trails weave through the back of the property and you are welcome to explore those as well. Because we are a working homestead and farm, a few things are true: -Sometimes there’s mud. We suggest boots for walking around the property and in the woods. -Our farm animals are great - and may also bite. Please do not pet or chase them. We are happy to arrange opportunities to interact with the animals. Just ask! -Not always, but at times, our neighbors will start farming early in the morning and you can hear their machinery. All of our sites have privacy but are not truly remote. We want you to enjoy yourselves but please be mindful that our house is on the property as well as our neighbors. Music needs to be turned down to a low level by 11 PM. We can accommodate pop-up campers, camper vans, etc near Mother Oak as well. Please message with any questions before reserving. Additional fees would apply. We can also accommodate larger tent camping groups depending on the day. Additional fees would apply. The homestead is located near 58 so you can hear cars during the day and night. The cabins are about a ½ mile from the road so the noise is greatly reduced. The cats and poultry are free range so if you are fearful of chickens, ducks or turkeys, you probably shouldn't stay here. 😁 Owners Chuck and Amanda moved from Northern California and re-established their rescue here in Central Ohio. We have two finished studio cabins. They are very close (2 miles) to the town of Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on the property. We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). We believe in going outside to play, growing & eating fresh food, strengthening family bonds and promoting the awareness of our natural resources. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 13 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. Weekend Trip to The Turkey Hollow Campground

What I was liked about staying at Turkey Hollow was the location. The campground entrance was off the beaten path which the gravel road leads you down a long and winding path to the camp sites. I stayed in one of the cabins which is quite rustic. Once you arrived it is quite nice and spacious with a loft above for additional sleeping space. But what I enjoyed seeing was a herd of cows across the way which kept me entertained. I would sit on the back balcony and sit and listen to nature. It is so peaceful and relaxing. I enjoyed it so much that I can say I will definitely return again.

We had a great time at Shady Maple cabin! It was a beautiful place to unwind, de-stress, and be in an amazing setting! The cabin had everything you would need for a relaxing time. We love a good log cabin and this did not disappoint! It was clean, had snacks, jacuzzi tub inside, a hot tub outside, board games, was private enough and everything worked as it should. Weekend Trip to The Turkey Hollow Campground

This was a wonderful location! We used infrared and night vision plus Heat sensors down in the hollow looking for Bigfoot. Had a great fire at the fire pit. Spent Saturday at the Bigfoot Conference. Drove over to salt fork state forest - packed like sardines there vs turkey Hollow - never felt crowded. Will definitely return. There is electrical and one light inside the cabin - didn’t have to use my ECOFLOW. Bring your cot or rollout matt - plenty of room. Approx 16x16 cabinets with porch. Outside there are plenty of trees for hammocks as well. Two port a John’s to choose from and water outside the cabin. Again, I will be back! Thx … this was a great accidental find. The Seabee Clem

Weekend Trip to Glamping at River Run

This little getaway was everything. The rustic, bohemian vibe was thoughtfully executed. It was warm, inviting, and so clean! The hosts are excellent communicators which was evident right way. They have taken care of every detail. Seriously, leave it all at home! Blankets, lanterns, kitchen/cooking items - stocked! We drove over 3 hours to camp in someone's backyard. Was it worth it? YES! Not negatives, but some things to consider: There is a train nearby that you hear all night which i find personally comforting. You will also hear a decent amount of traffic noise from the nearby road. Although you're tucked away, there are still people and other glampers on the neighboring property that you can hear and see. Also, the waterfront is super cute! Probably good for fishing and walking the property, but too mucky for taking a dip. Oh! The nearby downtown area is also fabulous with lots of great shops, bars, and restaurants. This sweet little glamp spot has everything. 💕

A beautiful and quiet place, would definitely recommend staying here! The cabin was clean and cozy. I would recommend parking near the first campground where the wood is and not by your cabin unless you have 4wheel drive because the hill is quite steep. I definitely plan to stay here again!

Me and my Dad stayed at The Shady Owl Ranch for a few days and it was amazing!! It was super cute, I loved every small detail, with the pictures on the walls and the whole esthetic was cozy- we loved everything so much!! It was so peaceful and full of animals!! We will definitely be back!! Also the folks here are super nice 🫶🏻 (caught a lot of fish too) 🎣😁

2 nights at Shady Owl Ranch

Host/hostess are very helpful and nice. I recommend you read pre-arrival instructions before arriving. If it’s going to be dark when you’re arriving, make sure you have a big flashlight to use when you’re going to the cabin. The stovetop is manually lit without the “clicking” of a pilot. I suggest putting the burner on low. The surrounding area has a full service grocery store and a few fast and fast casual restaurants within 2 miles. Finally, beware of the free range Turkey. They will lounge behind your vehicle and will not leave. We just drove around them to get out. Overall, we enjoyed the quiet and peaceful setting of the cabin. We would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a good retreat or recharge trip. The honey and eggs were delicious and worth adding to the trip. The unlimited firewood would be great for a longer stay, but wasn’t valuable for what was a little more than one night stay because of our last minute trip.

This was a wonderful location and my children (and dogs) and I had a great time. Pond was beautiful, fire pit made a peaceful evening, and the cabin was clean and welcoming. We can’t wait to go back!
