North of us 20 minutes you will find Sugarcreek ( the little Switzerland ) as well as south east of us Coshocton with canoeing and biking trails as well as Roscoe Village.

Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 13 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels. We now just added a shower in the trees, warm water rinse off area. (this is available between Memorial Day and until it get too cold again in the fall)

Learn more about this land: Our camp spots are very easy to drive right up to. They are overlooking a small bit of woods. Wake up in the morning to birds chirping. The area has a large clearing for children to play. but the privacy you need to enjoy a nice evening around the campfire. There is a pond for fishing, and a nice deck that is avaliable to use. There is 25 acres here and you are welcome to use it for your enjoyment. We do have fencing to keep our horses in so please we ask to not climb over the fences as they will shock you as they are electric. You will see chickens goats, rabbits, horses, dogs, and cats on our hobby farm. The wildlife you may see include squirrels, deer and racoons fox etc. Located 2 miles from interstate 70 for easy access. NewConcord is just 3 1/2 miles down the road and is the home town of John Glenn you can visit his home place there, or pick up grocerys. Cambridge is the next town away at 8 miles and you can go shopping there, We are also near the Wilds, Blue Rock State Park, and Jesse Owens State park. Hope to see you soon!

I started this 2 acre homestead! It is home to myself, my four dogs, turkeys, and some chickens. I’m very close to all the creature comforts like Walmart and Target, but the property is wooded on three sides so you feel like you’ve gotten away from the city. There is a small creek my dogs love to play in and a large field for frisbee and star gazing. There are hikes close by at Little Turtle Pond and many restaurants within 10 minutes like Woodys for breakfast and dinner at NauitiVine. If you enjoy boating Nimistila Reservoir (electric only very kayak friendly) and Portage Lakes are a quick 12 minute drive. I look forward to meeting you soon!

Edge of the Ledge Camp is a 4 site primitive campground located in a mature oak hardwood forest that offers bright light under a full forest canopy. In our many camping adventures over the years our favorite campgrounds were in our National Forests. We have built the campground with that "feel" of a forest experience. Walk the forested blue loop nature trail on an adjoining 13 acres that loops through BIG trees and large rocks of glacial till under the shade of an ancient chestnut oak tree. The trail begins across the road opposite the campground driveway. Ticks, mosquitos and deer flies can be bad at times. Protect yourself! See us on Facebook at Edge of the Ledge Camp. The 7 Principals of Leave No Trace *Plan Ahead and Prepare *Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit. *Prepare for extreme weather, hazards, and emergencies. *Schedule your trip to avoid times of high use. *Visit in small groups when possible. Consider splitting larger groups into smaller groups. *Repackage food to minimize waste. *Use a map and compass or GPS to eliminate the use of marking paint, rock cairns or flagging. (this is a challenging one for us...any suggestions?) *Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces Durable surfaces include maintained trails and designated campsites, rock, gravel, sand, dry grasses or snow. *Protect riparian areas by camping at least 200 feet from lakes and streams. *Good campsites are found, not made. Altering a site is not necessary. In popular areas: *Concentrate use on existing trails and campsites. *Walk single file in the middle of the trail, even when wet or muddy. *Keep campsites small. Focus activity in areas where vegetation is absent. In pristine areas: Disperse use to prevent the creation of campsites and trails. Avoid places where impacts are just beginning. Dispose of Waste Properly Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite, food preparation areas, and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food and litter. Utilize toilet facilities whenever possible. Otherwise, deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep, at least 200 feet from water, camp and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished. Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products. To wash yourself or your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater. Leave What You Find Preserve the past: examine, photograph, but do not touch cultural or historic structures and artifacts. Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species. Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches. Minimize Campfire Impacts Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the environment. Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light. Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires. Keep fires small. Only use down and dead wood from the ground that can be broken by hand. Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes. Respect Wildlife Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them. Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, [habituates them to humans], and exposes them to predators and other dangers. Protect wildlife and your food by storing rations and trash securely. Control pets at all times, or leave them at home. Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter. Be Considerate of Other Visitors Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail. Step to the downhill side of the trail when encountering pack stock. Take breaks and camp away from trails and other visitors. Let nature's sounds prevail. Avoid loud voices and noises. These principles were established by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, and built on work by the US Forest Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management in the mid 1980s. I checked in late, after dark, and set up was a breeze. Host offered to meet me, but it wasn't necessary. Spot was quiet and just what I needed for a quick stop, but I ended up booking a second night. I have Verizon with my phone, and T-Mobile with my van, both got excellent reception. important since I am in the area for work.

Weekend Trip to Hank and Ethel Homestead

This was my first wintertime van-camping outing with just the kids and I. The site was quiet and very inviting. It is also far enough out of the city-centers to look forward to stargazing on a future visit, when the sky is hopefully clear. Our hosts were very inviting and friendly. While there are not a lot of amenities, this is a perfect dry-camping spot for those on the road, as well as those more local (such as myself) who just need to get out of the house for a night or a weekend. The geese and such in the barn are also noticeable, but are not noisy as such to be an issue. Overall, we look forward to visiting this site again!
