When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more. Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. This site is accessed via a short trail through the trees down a gentle, sloping hill, and finally by a short stairway, and as such it may not be easily accessible for campers with limited mobility. Located on the grounds of the Duckpond Pottery, The Quack Shack is a secluded treehouse perched along the banks of the French Broad River. The structure is an 8x10 A-frame that transforms via a hinged wall into an open-air cabana with a charming deck that affords spectacular views of the French Broad River and surrounding countryside. This home was built in 2019 by an expert craftsman with the vision of making it cozy and spacious with sweet artistic details and lots of care and love. The home is 300 sq feet but feels much more grand inside. You will be nestled on 14 pristine acres of forest, with two decks, your own personal private hot tub, and a spring fed creek not too far down the driveway. There is a gas fireplace outdoors on the porch, and an outdoor fire pit for your use as well. The house has a queen size bed in the upper loft, a large twin day bed on the first level, and an extra loft with camping mats if needed above the day bed. The house can comfortably sleep 3 and up to 4 or 5 especially if a couple of them are children or petite people. The house has a full kitchen and bathroom, living room area and two lofts. For now there is a composting toilet that is easy to maintain and we are happy to help you with it if you’re on the land for more than a few days. The main house is about 30 yards up the hill, and although somewhat close, you will have plenty of privacy. We are close if you need us, but we try to give all of our guests ultimate privacy. The house is under a huge magnolia tree, so it stays shaded in the summer and quite cool. There is an AC unit and heaters in the house as well. There is a personal hot tub, which is screened in, and located on the front deck of the house now. You will love it! There is a back deck that is only for meditation, yoga, and bird watching, and we ask that folks stay silent on the back deck if they use it. Pets are welcome at an extra charge of $40 a night. If anything is needed down at the house we are available. Much of the time there is a massage therapist on site, so if you are interested in getting Bodywork please just inquire about prices and availability. There is also a wood-fired sauna on the property, so if you would like to sauna please let us know. And an added bonus is that you are only 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and LOTS of great hiking, great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, art galleries and more. Asheville is 15 minutes from the tiny cabin and Weaverville is 10 minutes away. On any given day you might see a family a deer, turkeys or bears in the front yard. There is a spring fed creek on the edge of the property you are welcome to soak your feet in, and there is incredible hiking just a few miles away. You are welcome to explore the 13 acres of property as well that the home is located on. This is not a place for parties. Our neighbors are about 200 yards down the hill so we try to respect their privacy and keep it quiet. That is why we have made the back deck a retreat/silent deck. Maximum of 4 guests.

We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. The Poppa Bear Cabin was adapted from another use, and it was mindfully renovated with local, live edge cladding from sustainable local harvesters as well as upgraded to have efficient heating, cooling, and other efficient equipment.

We had a wonderful time staying at Private Glamping w/ Outdoor Shower at Private Glamper/HOT TUB/MNTN VIEWS. Our hosts were so kind and thoughtful, and the setup was excellent and had everything one needs for a very comfortable and memorable glamping experience. The hot tub was definitely a highlight for us. Despite a sudden cold front coming in, the camper was always at a comfortable temperature and we never felt cold at night, even with outside temperatures dropping below freezing. Thank you again to our generous hosts for a great stay in this little oasis in Bryson City. We look forward to visiting again.

4 nights at Glamping Domes & A-Frame

The view is the star of the show. Add a hot tub and fire pit and that’s a bonus. Inside is very comfortable and cozy. The kitchen setup was adequate. It could use a toaster/counter top convection oven. The grill outside worked well however. Also the fridge was a good size for the 4 nights we stayed. Google maps ends short of your destination so getting there was a bit confusing. We were lucky Ravi was on sight to escort us. Hopefully better signage will be added. The road is a bit rough but manageable for the last 1/4 mile or so. Again, once there, it’s all about the view and the isolation. Shower was roomy and nice. The bed was huge and comfy. The geo-domes were close but it all felt private enough and our neighbors were quiet. It’s close to the Smokies which was our draw but not much else. Fine by us as we didn’t even leave the premises for a day and a half. Did I mention the view?

We loved the tiny cabin! My partner and I didn’t feel cramped, it feels much bigger on the inside. Perfect location - it was quiet, scenic, and convenient to get to. Great amenities as well - we loved getting to use the fire pit and hot tub, especially after a long day of hiking. Highly recommended!

This place is absolutely beautiful. Waking up to a sunrise over Appalachia is worth it on its own. The dome is well maintained, clean, and the area is super quiet and safe. It's an amazing place to relax in the hot tub and stargaze, play some games at the outdoor table, or just sit by the fire pit to talk and enjoy the scenery. There are two fire pits - a private metal one on the deck and a large communal area between the domes. There's also hiking and walking trails a short drive away in the Smokies (like Mouse Creek Falls). Ravi is super friendly and responsive to messages. We met him on our way out when he came up to do maintenance. He takes good care of this place. There are a few turns that are hard to see, so definitely arrive when it's daylight. If you use Waze, keep going up and around after it thinks you've "arrived".

Weekend Trip to Private Glamper/HOT TUB/MNTN VIEWS

Picture this: Wake up in your cozy camper (very clean and comfortable bed) and hop in the hot tub (extra towels included), take a hot outdoor shower surrounded by fall leaves and head down into Bryson City for some coffee and breakfast. After that, spend the day hiking in the Smokeys, come back into town to explore some shops and breweries, then head back to your cozy trailer for a fire and to soak some more in the hot tub. That was our exact experience- even though it was about 50 degrees and raining by the evening, that actually made everything even more fun, hot tub included. This site is so unique, convenient, and well designed. You can tell the host takes pride in making it a perfect stay for everyone, with attention to detail (like putting out a Halloween themed basket with Kurig pods). She even refunded money for firewood we didn’t use. One note: the hot tub was set at 95 when we arrived, and after a few hours was only 97 even though we set it to 104. It took overnight to get up to temperature, but after that it stayed hot and we got plenty of use out of it.

We loved this awesome cozy trailer. Everything was super clean and well laid out. Lots of thoughtful notes around the camper explaining various things about the camper. The hot tub was nice and hot and also very clean. Same goes for the outdoor shower. This was a delightful private retreat that we would come back to anytime! The hosts were super easy to get a hold of if we had any questions and were super friendly overall. No major complaints!

7 nights at Pink Fox Cove Cabin

What a wonderful place to stay! I'm a middle-aged woman with joint pain, and initially I was nervous that the crawl to the bed in the loft would be too much for me, but I figured out how to shuffle along, and by the time I left I was so sad to be going and didn't even feel bothered by the tight maneuvering. I stayed for a week while in town for a work thing. I primarily was there later at night and it was so special. The whole space is so thoughtfully done, the lighting just builds the mood, and there are so many wonderful touches. I used the gas fire pit outside a lot more than I expected, and I loved sitting in the hot tub listening to all of the sounds of nature. I absolutely hope to come back in the future! I didn't get to try the sauna, which hopefully I will be able to do in the future. And Kellie was very helpful throughout the stay with any of the needs I had.

Weekend Trip to Pink Fox Cove Cabin

We enjoyed our stay at Kellie’s place. It is in a quiet location and the house is such a cute little gem. It had everything we needed for a quick weekend trip. The hot tub was great to use and is in a private setting which fit perfectly with the whole ambience. There is a sauna on site for a fee which we didn’t get to use it unfortunately, due to our time limitations, I hope to be back and step up that relaxation game a bit. Kellie is very kind and it is true when she tells you to look out for her little doggies, they will run up to the car. They are extremely sweet and friendly and we enjoyed their enthusiasm.

We loved our stay at Contrast Cove! This was our anniversary getaway, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The views were absolutely stunning — especially from the private deck where we could just relax and soak in the beauty of the mountains. At night, it was peaceful and quiet, with nothing but the sounds of nature around us and the stars in the sky. The dome itself was incredible. The bed was massive and super soft, and the whole space stayed cool — which was a lifesaver on a hot summer day. Every amenity worked flawlessly: the sink, shower, toilet, and air conditioning were all clean and functional. The bathroom was also well-stocked and well-maintained. While the hot tub didn’t get very hot (more lukewarm than anything), everything else made up for that tenfold. Honestly, we’d give the experience a 10 out of 10 — and would absolutely come back in the future. Special thanks to Ravi, who was an amazing host. He made us feel safe, welcome, and taken care of the whole time. 🌙 Pro Tip: Do not try to arrive at night. The road up the mountain is pitch black with no guard rails — definitely better to get there during daylight for a safer trip. Thank you again, Ravi! We can’t wait to return!

This tiny home is a perfect getaway! Looks exactly like photos. Tucked away at quiet campground, which is sufficient in itself, but it’s also close to some overlooks on the foothills parkway and 30 min or so from Great Smokies main entrances, Gatlinburg and other attractions. Will was responsive. Definitely recommend booking! :)

3 nights at Glamping Domes & A-Frame

This remote dome has it all, spectacular view (even laying in the bed) every were, hot tub, grill, and very nicely furnished. The location was very close to the rafting we did on pigeon river. Highly recommend!

Where to go

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Mountains, lush forests, and waterfalls welcome visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Explore North Carolina’s Deep Creek streams and waterfalls, journey to the past in Cataloochee Valley’s 19th- and 20th-century buildings, or wander the wonders of the Mountain Farm Museum and Mingus Mill. About 30 minutes from Waynesville, choose between backcountry, frontcountry, group campgrounds, and horse sites in the park for an up close and unforgettable experience.

Blue Ridge Parkway

East of Waynesville sits the bountiful Blue Ridge Parkway. Featuring some of the oldest mountains in the world, it’s also home to Mount Mitchell, the highest mountain peak in the eastern US. Find a resting place at one of eight campgrounds along the parkway or settle into unique spots nearby like the Indigo Eagle Sanctuary, equipped with campsites, glampsites, and cabin rentals. Journey down this scenic stretch to explore endless hiking, biking, and wildlife.

Cherokee National Forest

Saunter into the south side of the Cherokee National Forest just north of the Great Smoky Mountains and 45 minutes from Waynesville. Offering developed campgrounds, hiking trails, whitewater rivers, and picnic areas, this tree-filled oasis provides opportunities for thrill-seekers and those looking to relax. With scenic drives and nature viewing, the effortlessly tall-trunked, green space is an easy decision when camping near Waynesville.

Nantahala National Forest

Heading into the southwest valleys of North Carolina, Nantahala National Forest is the biggest of four national forests in the state. An easy 10-minute drive from Waynesville, campers can book on-site campgrounds with sites ranging from primitive to RV spots with full hookups, lodges, and horse camps. Hit the Nantahala Outdoor Center to rent a raft, paddleboard, or kayak, and trek through treetop adventures or zip down zip lines. Be sure to pack swimsuits and journey out to the swimming hole at Silver Run Falls or one of many other worthy forest waterfalls.

When to go

Despite spring, summer, and fall being the more popular months to camp near Waynesville, there are options for winter warriors, too. Unforgettable fall foliage is followed by winters with snow and icy adventures. Spring offers two rounds of gorgeous flower blooms while summer temperatures over 80°F provide optimal water activities. There’s not a single season where campers won’t find themselves wondering how soon they can return to Waynesville.
