The Secret Sanctuary Farm is a co/op located on a portion of Prince George Creek that has a double Oxbow or hairpin turns in the creek. This unique feature prevented loggers from logging the property. As a result, there are many huge old-growth trees on the property as well as a variety of fauna and flora.
A truly unique blend of farmland. Including an assortment of friendly animals to interact with. Woodland, wetlands, and a deep spring fed fresh water creek that connects to the Cape Fear River.
This is a working farm. Please do not Open any gates to the animals. The fruits and vegetables on the farm are for the members of the farm. Eggs from our chickens will be provided for you to use for breakfast. If you happen to choose a campsite with a kitchen. There is a coffee pot and all cooking utensils.
There are four permanent 4 shelters on the property. Composting toilets. Showers are still in the works. All of the shelters have their own composting toilets. Small propane heaters are available for each shelter. The first 1gallon bottle off propane is free with your stay. it will last 5-7 hrs. each additional bottles will cast $6.00 per bottle. There is also solar, powered lights, usb charging stations, fans, and air coolers. each Conestego hut has a locking front door to keep your belongings safe
Campfires, hiking, canoeing and kayaking.
Kayaks, canoes and lifejackets are available for you to use free of charge.
The only requirement is to have a flotation device on or in the boat.

Canter Lakes Farm offers waterfront camping on 47 acres. We are a private horse farm with beautiful swimming lakes and river access on site via “Sand Hill Creek”
At canter lakes farm you can explore over 10 acres of water without ever leaving our property, and hike almost 3 miles of manicured trails here! If you’re an early riser you can witness the magnificent steam rolling in over the lakes, creek and cypress swamp while you sip your coffee at sunrise. Bring your paddle boards and cruise, or warm up with sunny yoga on your private dock. Kayak or John boats can explore the river bends from our property, or even make it out to the big wide cape fear.
We are very close to two public boat ramps suitable for larger boats and jet skis. Holly Shelter boat ramp is literally 2 minutes away, Shelter Creek boat ramp is 10 minutes away. Both ramps have a fishing area and allow kayaks/paddle boards.
Fishing is good on our ponds and the river year round, (bass, catfish, crappie, bowfin, gar, etc) in June hundreds of wild blueberry plants you can pick and eat. We also have prickly pear cacti for harvesting which you can cook the fruit and paddles over the fire and enjoy. If our trails aren’t enough and you want more adventure, just two miles away is the Holly Shelter game lands entrance where you’ll find thousands of acres for hunting, biking, hiking or horseback riding. And if you’re craving a beach day, Wrightsville beach is just a 30 minute drive away as well as is downtown Wilmington where you can enjoy walking the riverfront for shopping or dining.
Stargazing galore! Surrounding the property is privately owned country land- this is a phenomenal place to be amazed by the stars.
Photography lovers will be in heaven from the sunrises and sunsets golden hour is magical here! And with the diverse landscape there’s always something to capture.
Tent camping or dry rv camping only at this time. Hot Shower, sink and full size toilet are provided in the bath house. No feeding of the horses allowed, or entering fencing. campers are welcome to visit or partake in farm experience with permission.

This is a place to get away and enjoy nature but you aren't too far from a local grocery store, a few restaurants and a local park. If you are here for the beach, the closest beach and also our favorite is Cherry Grove Beach, only a 30 minute drive. There are a few kayak rental companies we can connect you to if you'd like and we know all the local spots for adventure, food and shopping. Pick a hammock and relax listening to the birds, we also have an outdoor kitchen to prepare food and community firepits to gather around. We want this to be a relaxing getaway, to connect with yourself, others and nature.

The land was easy to access and was overall beautiful. There was some disturbance due to dirt bikes driving constantly for hours on the adjacent property, but this quieted down before night time. Overall good experience that I would suggest to others.

We loved this site and the whole property! It was a nice, private site that was perfect for tent camping and had a fire ring, table, and chair too. The dogs loved getting to run around on the sand, go for a swim, and explore all the trails.
The property had great amenities and the hosts were wonderfully responsive. We showed up later after it was already dark and had no problem following the directions to our campsite.
We'll definitely be back!

We had a wonderful stay! Everything felt thoughtfully planned and genuinely welcoming. The hosts were warm and attentive, and we loved meeting the animals on the property, including a momma cow and calf and several goats. It added to the charm of the stay.
A wagon was provided at the parking area to help move our gear. Incredibly helpful! Clearly marked light paths through the woods made navigating after dark easy. The fire ring was set with enough wood for our first night, and the welcome note, trail mix, water, coffee, and kitchen items were generous, hospitable touches.
The tent itself was beautifully done—tastefully decorated, cozy, and well equipped with everything we needed. The king-size bed was very comfortable, as were the feather pillows. A heater kept the tent warm despite nighttime temperatures in the 20s, though winter guests may want to bring an extra blanket (we were glad we did).
We traveled with our two dogs. The off-leash freedom was especially appreciated—it made the experience even more relaxing for all of us.
We highly recommend the breakfast option. Alissa prepared a healthy, delicious meal of bacon, eggs, bread with butter and jam, yogurt with fresh berries and toppings, and the best oats we’ve ever tasted.
The only minor issue was the distance to the loo in the middle of the night, but it didn’t detract from an otherwise excellent stay. We highly recommend The Fern to anyone looking for a peaceful, well-hosted glamping experience.

Weekend Trip to The Secret Sanctuary Farm
Our time at The Secret Sanctuary was amazing. James and Sola were very accommodating for our short visit, making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed and more. They let us spend time with them on the farm and interact with the animals. We learned so much about the animals and how a farm works: James and Sola also taught us about plants that grew wild on the property and about their greenhouses. The camping area was awesome, a short hike from the farm it is almost a completely different world. The cabin was cozy and had everything we needed to sleep comfortably. James started a fire for us, brought all of our things from our car via four wheeler and made sure we had what we needed. This was one of the best experiences we have had camping like this, our only regret is not staying longer! Thank you James and Sola for an amazing visit, we will be back to see you soon!

Fern Getaway was the perfect spot for us! We are beginner campers and it was really nice to have amenities available to make the experience a little more comfortable. The shower, compost toilet, and grilling station were a gamechanger.
Definitely would recommend staying here! Bring food to cook and s'mores for campfire. The shower is cool / lukewarm but it felt great after spending the day in the sun! It's only a 30-35 min drive to Cherry Grove Beach

Weekend Trip to The Secret Sanctuary Farm
Words can’t express how wonderful their campsite is! The cabins have comfortable beds, there is everything and anything you would need to stay for a weekend or longer. All you need to bring is food , whatever comfort items you personally want. They have everything! They have grills, fishing equipment, kayaks, life vest, firewood, power to charge phones, bug spray, fans, grilling/ cooking equipment. This is a once in a lifetime place. It is such an amazing special place, tucked back in the woods next to a creek with plenty of shade, chairs , fire rings , shower , camp toilets, dock to fish off of. Plenty of catfish, bowfin, bluegill, bass to find. Each cabin is slightly bigger than the bed , it has solar powered lights that also can charge your phone. Private camp toilets, shower that is from the creek water , and the peace and quiet is unimaginable. James and Sola are amazing people, the nicest people you will find. Anything you need they are there to help. Their farm is a sanctuary that they tend to with animals that are kid safe , chickens, horses, goats and many more. The pride and love they have for their property for your camping adventure is worth every second you are there and every penny. Perfect for romantic spot, a getaway, mental health, whatever your reason is this is the place for you. HIGHLY recommend. The solitude and experience is unbelievable. Message them for any questions and they are quick to help.

You can really see how much work was put into creating this little piece of paradise in the woods. Close enough to the beach and other activities. It felt very private. James and Sola were very nice and welcoming! We stayed at Lokis lookout and enjoyed the serenity! Feeding the animals was a nice welcome to the property, and a great way to start off a quiet camping weekend. We found it super convenient that there was lots of camping equipment for cooking that was made available!

We loved this little spot!
It was tucked far enough back in the woods that it felt private, but close enough to the common area that we were able to make use of the sinks and just a short walk to the bathroom/shower.
As a bonus, the owners allowed us to visit their animals and at night, the fireflies light up the forest around you, its absolutely beautiful.

James & Sola were great hosts. They showed us around the property upon arrival and gave us options for our one night stay. They were very accommodating. My son got to help feed the animals their dinner and really enjoyed himself. We did camp near the chicken coop, so it was no surprise when the roosters began to crow in the morning.

I had the absolute amazing time camping at the Fern! This was everything and more than I thought it would be. My campsite felt private, spacious, and refreshing. I loved having the outdoor shower, and felt most refreshed and relaxed after my camping adventure. The host greeted me and was super helpful. I got to meet the new goats and milk cow! What a fun place to just kick back and relax. I felt safe and enjoyed everything. I am a happy camper.

Took my girlfriend and dog camping and it was great! There were grills, a rake we used to move some pine needles, a sink we used to wash our utensils and hanmocks in the communal area. There little touches everywhere, like a tiny herb garden, solar fairy lights on the path and even remote lighting for the loo. It was very well maintained and we were happy to spend our cooking over a campfire out in the country.

Weekend Trip to The Secret Sanctuary Farm
James and Sola are two very amazing and intelligent people who have an obvious passion for what they do and have here. My husband and I had a very wonderful stay, we learned so much about bees, the different flora and fauna around, and were made to feel welcome and at home. At one point in our trip, my husband and I decided to try kayaking for the first time, and I got very spooked. After that, James took us out, taught us what we needed to know, showed us around the creek, and made us feel safer and more comfortable on the kayaks. We were also taught about some awesome fishing tricks and tips from Sola, and now know how to catch and eel! The trip was so much more than just a stay in someone’s cabin. It was a peaceful, welcoming, educational and spiritual space where we had a great time.
For anyone considering the Secret Sanctuary, I 1000/10 recommend here.

My boyfriend and I came here for a night in the winter and it was super quiet and comfortable. It felt very private and cooking over the campfire was a blast. We were visited by one of their cats which was lovely :)
