This home was built in 2019 by an expert craftsman with the vision of making it cozy and spacious with sweet artistic details and lots of care and love. The home is 300 sq feet but feels much more grand inside. You will be nestled on 14 pristine acres of forest, with two decks, your own personal private hot tub, and a spring fed creek not too far down the driveway. There is a gas fireplace outdoors on the porch, and an outdoor fire pit for your use as well. The house has a queen size bed in the upper loft, a large twin day bed on the first level, and an extra loft with camping mats if needed above the day bed. The house can comfortably sleep 3 and up to 4 or 5 especially if a couple of them are children or petite people. The house has a full kitchen and bathroom, living room area and two lofts. For now there is a composting toilet that is easy to maintain and we are happy to help you with it if you’re on the land for more than a few days. The main house is about 30 yards up the hill, and although somewhat close, you will have plenty of privacy. We are close if you need us, but we try to give all of our guests ultimate privacy. The house is under a huge magnolia tree, so it stays shaded in the summer and quite cool. There is an AC unit and heaters in the house as well.
There is a personal hot tub, which is screened in, and located on the front deck of the house now. You will love it! There is a back deck that is only for meditation, yoga, and bird watching, and we ask that folks stay silent on the back deck if they use it.
Pets are welcome at an extra charge of $40 a night.
If anything is needed down at the house we are available. Much of the time there is a massage therapist on site, so if you are interested in getting Bodywork please just inquire about prices and availability. There is also a wood-fired sauna on the property, so if you would like to sauna please let us know.
And an added bonus is that you are only 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and LOTS of great hiking, great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, art galleries and more. Asheville is 15 minutes from the tiny cabin and Weaverville is 10 minutes away.
On any given day you might see a family a deer, turkeys or bears in the front yard. There is a spring fed creek on the edge of the property you are welcome to soak your feet in, and there is incredible hiking just a few miles away. You are welcome to explore the 13 acres of property as well that the home is located on.
This is not a place for parties. Our neighbors are about 200 yards down the hill so we try to respect their privacy and keep it quiet. That is why we have made the back deck a retreat/silent deck. Maximum of 4 guests.

I moved here from San Francisco, to simplify my life, and accomplish my dreams. The Tiny house was designed and built by architect, Jesse Plaster. It's a unique cozy loft style design, set back in the woods on our property. It's purposely placed next to a creek, with a nice stone fire ring to really enjoy the outdoors. In the cold months, it's heated by a wood burning stove. Also next to the house are logging roads that allow you to hike the Ripshin Mountains. The Yadkin River is near by, and so is Boone and Blowing Rock. If you like mountain biking, bring your bike to ride Kerr Scott, or Zacks Fork trails. Also, check out the workshops at Pattersonschoolfoundation.org They offer sustainable living classes such as cheese making, mushroom foraging, blacksmithing, soap making, kimchi making, etc... James landed on the property in 2009, built a small dairy barn and milked 3 cows for a couple years before building the two cabins. In 2015 he was joined by Sofi, originally from Sweden and together they have three daughters.
Together they manage a botanically interesting hill farm and are happy to host travelers and seekers in their cabins. Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water"
Orchard House was built entirely by James from the cement blocks to the roof. It’s very creative and cozy, besides spacious for a tiny home. People describe it as “dreamy”, also “perfect”.
Some of the Hilltop photos are a bit dated, we have a more private outhouse behind the cabin, and have made a few improvements here and there. Reach out anytime for any reason. We love hosting and nearly everyone enjoys their stay.

Weekend Trip to Tiny House in Happy Valley
Amazing place at happy valley! Super clean and enjoyable. Great hiking trails around the property and has a good brewery/pizzeria 5 minutes down the road. Had a few inches of sleet/snow (they even plowed the road for us to get out)and the place was so great. Stayed very warm with the wood fired stove, Ziggy and Moonpie were adorable ( their donkey and cow) very accommodating and hopefully plan on coming back for another round!

This was a spur of the moment stay and turned out good. It is a little difficult without running water to the cabin with kids (there is a bath house with restrooms within walking distance). The cabin itself was beautiful, we stayed in number 1. There are 4 of them very close by, so if you are seeking privacy it won't be here. Across the cabin is a fenced in area for the farm animals. We did not check that out due to timing of other plans, but is probably cool for the kids. We were able to have a campfire which was really nice to have. All in all, if you are just needing a spot to sleep id recommend it, not so much for hanging out, especially with younger kids. I have a 10 and 4 year old.
The drive way is paved most of the way, lots of twists and turns. We arrived after sundown so it was a little challenging finding but nothing crazy.

Ravens Ridge was a beautiful getaway. With rustic charms and spectacular views.... Even from bed!
Cantral to places to explore. Went to Bryson City for the train ride through the mountains. Gatlinburg is so close as well to find fun to get into.
Definitely be prepared for the walk up to the cabin but it was a beautiful and well needed retreat.

What an amazing slice of paradise! Loved being nestled in the woods for 3 nights. We had everything we needed in the tiniest of homes on the most beautiful land. Communication was great with host and the pizza down the road was top notch. Loved every second of relaxing and just existing. So siked to have found this jewel and can’t wait to return!

What a wonderful place to stay! I'm a middle-aged woman with joint pain, and initially I was nervous that the crawl to the bed in the loft would be too much for me, but I figured out how to shuffle along, and by the time I left I was so sad to be going and didn't even feel bothered by the tight maneuvering. I stayed for a week while in town for a work thing. I primarily was there later at night and it was so special. The whole space is so thoughtfully done, the lighting just builds the mood, and there are so many wonderful touches. I used the gas fire pit outside a lot more than I expected, and I loved sitting in the hot tub listening to all of the sounds of nature. I absolutely hope to come back in the future! I didn't get to try the sauna, which hopefully I will be able to do in the future. And Kellie was very helpful throughout the stay with any of the needs I had.

I truly enjoyed staying in James’ Hilltop Cabin. The cabin itself was cozy and charming. There is another cabin close by but it still felt private. The land that the cabin is on has some great trails with beautiful views. James was incredibly responsive and helpful and accommodated me on short notice. I definitely plan on staying again next time I’m in the area! 10/10

We enjoyed our stay at Kellie’s place. It is in a quiet location and the house is such a cute little gem. It had everything we needed for a quick weekend trip. The hot tub was great to use and is in a private setting which fit perfectly with the whole ambience. There is a sauna on site for a fee which we didn’t get to use it unfortunately, due to our time limitations, I hope to be back and step up that relaxation game a bit. Kellie is very kind and it is true when she tells you to look out for her little doggies, they will run up to the car. They are extremely sweet and friendly and we enjoyed their enthusiasm.

Sweet little spot that has all the basics covered for a short retreat. The cabin was built with care and is quirky, but fun and romantic. Anyone with mobility issues should be aware that the staircase might be very challenging (steep, narrow). The hosts are very accommodating and easily available if needed. Would recommend to anyone who is looking to get away for a few days. Plenty of trails on site if you don't want to leave the premises. Beware that the trail to the Cliffs is really difficult to find on the side closest to the property. I recommend walking up the road and taking the part of the trail closer to the Cliffs, in between two residences.

Where to go
Lake James State Park
Northeast of Marion on the border of Pisgah National Forest, Lake James State Park features sandy beaches, rugged forestry, and two on-site campgrounds. Lake James’ campgrounds offer tent-only accommodations with backpacking areas and paddle-in campsites. All frontcountry campsites include a firepit, picnic table, and 12x12 tent pad with access to potable water faucets, toilets, and hot showers. After a night in nature, check out the park’s boat rentals for a day out on the water or hike along Mill's Creek Trail for Blue Ridge Mountain views.
Pisgah National Forest
Less than an hour from Marion, forested peaks, rivers, and waterfalls await in Pisgah National Forest. The forest maintains multiple campgrounds, cabin rentals, dispersed districts, and horse-friendly campsites, many of which include full hookups, drinking water, dump stations, and showers. Pisgah is also home to over 200 waterfalls, Blue Ridge Mountains, and gem and mining caves in Emerald Village, where visitors can take a unique black-light tour of the cavernous depths. Campers can also consider the rugged terrain and valleys of Linville Gorge Wilderness area for more challenging trails and mountain climbing.
South Mountains State Park
South Mountains State Park has two access points for campers: Clever Creek and Jacob Fork. As the largest state park in North Carolina, South Mountains is renowned for its 18-mile mountain-bike loop, an 80-ft waterfall, and 40 miles of hiking trails reaching elevations up to 3,000 feet. On-site camping facilities for tents, RVs, trailers, and horses are available at the Jacob Fork access. All campsites come with firepits, picnic tables, and access to showers—a few provide electric hookups, as well.
When to go
Marion’s warm summers and mild winters attract campers year-round. With sun-filled summer skies and temperatures reaching the mid 80s to low 90s, campers can spend warm days by the beach and out on the water from late June to early September. Winter temperatures often drop below freezing overnight, making cold-weather camping gear essential for winter camping.
