My property consists of a ridge running east to west with the access road running along the south border. the land slopes up to the ridge for about 300 feet, and then down to the river for about 800 feet. The south side of the ridge has a small pond close to the road. The rest is pasture, and an orchard and small vineyard. The north side of the ridge is old growth timber, and shady and cool. The two cabins are along the river. One is perched on a ridge over looking the river and the other is right on the river. The swimming hole is 30 feet from the lower cabin. There is room for a couple campsites along the river also. The south side of the ridge was a cotton farm decades ago, but was covered in timber when I bought it 12 years ago. The north side has been in timber for the known history of the property.

Located on family land granted by King Charles in 1685 we have worked hard to restore and refurbish in a sustainable way, using the trees and supplies from the land that they sit on. Hand crafting doors and furniture the way the family did it 140 plus years ago. The history of this place is deep, even the nails for the cabin and farm house that is now the clubhouse were hand crafted by my great grandfather in his blacksmith shop, along with the wagon wheels, horse shoes, misc farm utensils etc... there was no running out to Lowes to pick up what was needed, it was made in the blacksmith shop. This is rented out separately so there’s a chance you may bump into some of our other guests but don’t worry, there’s plenty of space for everyone! Check out local wineries, BBQ joints, and golf courses! There's so much to do around here, even though you're in the woods away from civilization, you're only a short 30 min drive for groceries. You'll be able to take a dip in the river, fish in the creeks (close to cabin) also right here on the property you can pan for gold, look for fossils, and enjoy this North Carolina retreat. We have many outside areas that guests are welcome to use, such as the much-loved private hot tub and fire pits, tetherball, cornhole, volleyball, badminton, basketball, horseshoes, small gun range MUST BE APPROVED BY OWNERS (targets $2) Lots of walking/hiking trails. The Alpine Inn is a beautiful and rustic lodge with absolutely stunning views! Perched at 3,200 feet on the side of Grassy Mountain, the Alpine Inn offers the best views in North Carolina, just one mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway (milepost 334) in Little Switzerland. Due to Hurricane Helene, we’ve made some changes. Our main buildings, including the lobby and dining area, were lost, so check-in and check-out are now self-service. For questions, visit our onsite Food Trailer, which serves breakfast and dinner from the Two Guys and a Taco trailer, offering both tacos and the Alpine Inn menu all day from 7am to 7pm unless business is too slow. With no lobby or reception desk, online reservations are encouraged. We appreciate your patience as we rebuild and continue providing a peaceful retreat between Asheville and Boone, perfect for exploring Mount Mitchell, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, and more. We have a large covered picnic table, gas grill, charcoal grill, swing, and chairs, all available for guests to use at no extra charge. On many nights, we start a fire in our propane firepit and invite everyone to join us. It usually starts at dusk and ends around 10:30pm. There’s a comfortable cushioned swing and chairs. It’s a great place to sit and enjoy an evening fire in the mountains. Inside the guest lounge, there’s a television with wifi reception, games, books, and a telescope. There’s also a Crane Combo vending machine with many snack options including an assortment of cold drinks. You will also find your coffee fix in the mornings with the airpot coffee dispenser free of charge.

The property is 4.66 acres at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, only 1 mile from the largest recreation area (Doughton Park) on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Longbottom Leaves is a working permaculture homestead. We have two creeks, a (swimming) pond, an off-grid house, a cob pizza oven, a fruit-and-nut orchard, a huge vegetable garden, and over three acres of forest with walking trails through them. We are only 4 miles from Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. Hiking and fishing are fantastic in both Doughton Park and Stone Mountain SP, and Stone Mountain also has rock climbing routes. In addition, we are less than a 30-minute drive from about a dozen or so vineyards. Elkin NC is about 40 minutes east, Wilkesboro NC is about 40 minutes south, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is 20 minutes away. We--Emma and Jonathon--live in an off-grid cabin on the property. We both garden and write (travel- and sustainability-type stuff), and we are happy to share info about the property and stuff to do around the area.

Weekend Trip to Adin`s river cabin

If you're looking for fancy, bells and whistles this isn't for you. If you're looking for privacy, peace and serenity in a rustic cabin then you found it. The cabin is small but cozy. The cabin does have hot water, but only for a couple minutes. It has a decent size sink in the kitchen. The bathroom is tiny and not for the costraphibic, but it's nice having something indoors. There also an outhouse. Adin offers heat for an extra fee if you ask. We didn't use it, it was chilly at night, but still warmer than tent camping. The rd to the cabin in narrow and a little steep, but we made it in and out with two wheel drive. The property terrain itself is pretty rugged and steep(sometimes slippery) with cliffs. I would say younger children need good supervision venturing if you bring them and it wouldn't be suitable for people with mobility issues. If you have children I would bring a baby gate for the upstairs loft, as it's an open entrance and exit at the ladder stairs, which are steep. Room for extra tents in site. There's tons of deck space here with three decks and amazing views from the top. The sounds of the rapids and the frogs are so serene. The river is beautiful and clear with plenty of room. There's also some trails on the property. Sadly you can see some of the damage caused by flooding from the hurricane. Our little family enjoyed our stay here. Adin and his wife were kind and helpful. What a blessing to own a beautiful piece of paradise. Thank you for sharing it.

Weekend Trip to Adin`s river cabin

My family & I loved Adin’s cabin. It was perfect for us to escape the fast city life for the weekend. We walked the creek bank, searched for worms, tried fishing.. but had no luck. Mr. Adin said Helene had taken most of the fish. The water was crystal clear, & the sound of the water moving had me mesmerized. The kids enjoyed watching movies upstairs in the loft, & they had plenty to keep them busy. We can’t wait to come back in the Summer. Thanks again Adin for having us! The Turner Family 🥰

Weekend Trip to Rustic Appalachian Cabin

Super cute cabin! Had everything we needed for the weekend even a s’mores kit!! Host were extremely helpful when we got confused with the lock box. The view was great watching the sunrise with the fog over the trees, plenty of paths to walk if you don’t wanna go to the Stone Mountain trail. We wanted a quiet place to elope with some of our closest friends we got that and so much more. Check out was super easy would definitely recommend for a quiet romantic getaway or even a small family vacation! Pet friendly accommodations for the bestest of pets. I don’t know how much more I can recommend, if you’re on the fence take the leap you won’t regret it in the slightest. We looked a so many other options but ultimately kept coming back to this one every time and glad we did! Thank you so much to the amazing hosts for having us and allowing us to have this moment here it will never be forgotten

Weekend Trip to Twin Oake at Linville

Fantastic location with an incredible view of the mountains, like camping but with all the modern comforts you’d need. Excellent kitchen and eating area, huge deck to sit outside on and a very nice bathroom. We did 3 days here and did not see one other person or car drive by - this place is PRIVATE. Great location as it’s close to Linville Gorge, caverns, Blowing Rock, Blue Ridge Parkway you name it.

Cute cabin with amazing views! If you are lucky enough to catch a sunrise, it’s breathtaking. Make sure to follow the written directions if coming in at night, as turning around if you go too far is a bit tricky. Space heater kept the place toasty and cozy. Lots of trail access near by!

My Family of three stayed in a small cabin right by Elk Creek. We had breakfast on a little balcony overlooking the creek. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Got there during the dark, so not having to setup a tent was certainly a benefit. Dianne is a great host and so very friendly and helpful!

Garry and Dianne were so kind to share their lovely log cabin with our family. Dianne was especially kind and sweet, and we truly appreciated their hospitality. The cabin was beautifully prepared for us, and there was plenty of space to pitch a tent right outside. Our kids especially loved fishing by the stream and roasting s’mores by the campfire. It was such a fun and relaxing getaway for all of us. We’ll definitely try to come back in the future!
