A grassy meadow nestled between a forested ridge the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, an open access walking and bike path. The Rosendale Rail Trail Cafe is just across the meadow from you and Rosendale trestle bridge is a short bike or walk away.
We do have hot water showers and heated bathrooms in the Owlwood. Use our hand drawn map to find your way around the farm.
Please drive extremely slowly while on the farm road, there and kids and critters everywhere and your car will thank you! Also, we encourage everyone to drive as little as possible while on the farm, why drive when you can walk and enjoy the land.
If you want to sleep in a car or rv make sure to contact us so we can let you know where to car camp. No cars are allowed in Red Fox Meadow. Also, if the meadow seems too wet to camp give us a shout, there are other areas to camp that are dryer in the wet moments, just not as private.

Primitive Camp on the Esopus Creek in the Big Indian-Oliverea Valley surrounded by seven 3500' Catskill High Peaks including Slide Mountain, the tallest in the Catskills. Our PRIVATE camp (no other campers) is situated on 100 acres of land in the middle of the Catskill State Park. We are the closest HipCamp site to Slide Mountain, the Catskills tallest peak at 4180 feet. A perfect base camp for some of the best hiking in the Catskills, the site is bordered by Forever Wild Forest and is minutes from the trailheads to Balsam, Giant Ledge, Panther, Big Indian, Slide Mountain and dozens more peaks within 30 minutes or so away.
Though the base fee covers up to 4 campers, the site accommodates up to 14 campers. The additional fee is $20.00/per camper per night on top of the base fee.
Our drive up camp has a 10X12 covered tent platform, several individual tent sites with private fire rings, as well as a bunkhouse and a leanto for day use. The camp table and cook pit are covered from the elements. For toilet use, we have a CleanWaste loo which is a 5 gal bucket in a toilet seat box. You lift the lid, place a CleanWaste bag in the bucket which has a kitty litter like powder called Poo Powder in it. You do your business, the powder absorbs all the odor and gels all the matter. When done, you lift the seat, take out the bag, tie it up and throw it in the trash.
There are camp rules about how to handle trash, recycling, and compost so as to minimize the possibility of black bear visits. Follow those rules so as to avoid a penalty fees of $50.00 if trash, recycling, and compost are not followed. A detailed message about trash, recycling, and compost practice will be sent to campers days before the booked trip.
Seasoned bundled 16" firewood is available by honor box cash payment on Brown rd across the camp entry road.

This piece of land was developed by my mother, and named after my grandmother: The Awakening Garden is a translation of her name in Chinese.
It is tucked in between the Hudson River (8 miles to the East) and the Catskill Mountains (10 miles to the west). It is just 6 miles from the Village of Saugerties and 14 miles to Woodstock, NY.
The piece available for camping is 10 acres, but the entire Garden is comprised of 98 acres of rolling land (most of it in a forestry protection plan) bordered on the west by acres of marshland. Many trails criss-cross the Garden and lead one to pretty or interesting vistas including a large mountain laurel patch, ancient graveyard, and different stands of mixed wood forests.

We are conveniently located next to the NY Thruway exit 19 & 209 Highway yet super secluded and in nature’s paradise adjacent to the Sawkill River and across a large private Forrest. There is some road noise from Sawkill road & the Thruway dependent on the spot you choose to set up. If your’e tenting you can be in the woods way up in the forest, but most campers prefer our spot near the Sawkill River. I have fire pits, common outdoor furniture & a gasBBQ’s that can be used. There is chickens, bees & goats & 2 guardian life stocks dogs that live with the goats. I also have a small Terrier & a farm cat. A lot of outdoor activity with bird watching, bunnies, deer & the groundhogs say good night. It’s rural yet only 10 minutes to Kingston uptown and about 20 minutes to Woodstock. About 1 hr from Hunter & Windham Mountain resorts and 45 minutes to Belleayre Ski.
We also have a wood fired oven and offer pizza making classes as well as catered meals.

Welcome to Roots and Culture! We are a small, becoming site for Afroecology, located on ancestral and unceded Munsee Lenape land, now called Marlborough. We offer camping to guests who attend our pick-your-own days, wellness workshops, and community organizing events. We have tents, sleeping bags, and other gear available for rent and several group campsites available for tent camping. We have several gardens that produce fruits and vegetables May through November and are happy to offer garden tours and plant-based meals to guests by request. We always need help, so if you are willing to participate in a project during your stay, please indicate in your reservation. From weeding and turning compost, to planting trees and harvesting garlic, there are always a number of ways to add your energy to the farm. There is also a creek/swimming hole to enjoy on warmer days, especially after working in one of the gardens. There is a campfire space that all guests share and guests are allowed small private fires when the fire ban is not in effect.
We do not currently provide bathroom facilities. We ask guests to use a modest compost toilet.
Nearby are the Falcon (wonderful music venue), Marlborough Nature Trail, Marlborough Farm Trail, brewing companies and wineries, orchards, U-Picks, parks on the Hudson River, and 15 minutes to the many other hiking trails in the area.

Back in the day this was all farmland. I purchased this property in 2019 and have been busy developing it. I’ve build a chicken coop, installed bee hives and I have Nigerian dwarf goats. There is a farmstand that opens seasonally. The property is about 6 acres of flat land with several great spots to camp. Across the road is our private forest about 40 acres. We are conveniently located next to the NY Thruway exit 19 & 209 Highway yet super secluded and in nature’s paradise adjacent to the Sawkill River and across a large private Forrest. There is some road noise from Sawkill road & the Thruway dependent on the spot you choose to set up. If your’e tenting you can be in the woods way up in the forest, but most campers prefer our spot near the Sawkill River. I have fire pits, common outdoor furniture & a gasBBQ’s that can be used. There is chickens, bees & goats & 2 guardian life stocks dogs that live with the goats. I also have a small Terrier & a farm cat. A lot of outdoor activity with bird watching, bunnies, deer & the groundhogs say good night. It’s rural yet only 10 minutes to Kingston uptown and about 20 minutes to Woodstock. About 1 hr from Hunter & Windham Mountain resorts and 45 minutes to Belleayre Ski.
We also have a wood fired oven and offer pizza making classes as well as catered meals.

Welcome to Roots and Culture! We are a small, becoming site for Afroecology, located on ancestral and unceded Munsee Lenape land, now called Marlborough. We offer camping to guests who attend our pick-your-own days, wellness workshops, and community organizing events. We have tents, sleeping bags, and other gear available for rent and several group campsites available for tent camping. We have several gardens that produce fruits and vegetables May through November and are happy to offer garden tours and plant-based meals to guests by request. We always need help, so if you are willing to participate in a project during your stay, please indicate in your reservation. From weeding and turning compost, to planting trees and harvesting garlic, there are always a number of ways to add your energy to the farm. There is also a creek/swimming hole to enjoy on warmer days, especially after working in one of the gardens. There is a campfire space that all guests share and guests are allowed small private fires when the fire ban is not in effect.
We do not currently provide bathroom facilities. We ask guests to use a modest compost toilet.
Nearby are the Falcon (wonderful music venue), Marlborough Nature Trail, Marlborough Farm Trail, brewing companies and wineries, orchards, U-Picks, parks on the Hudson River, and 15 minutes to the many other hiking trails in the area.

My family & I stayed here with our reactive dog & also added the glamping tent during early April. The weather was chilly & wet, but that didn’t spoil our fun! The cabin warms up quickly with the wood burning stove, & the tent heats up fast (and cools off fast) with a provided propane heater. There’s a proper bed & rugs in the tent & I packed accordingly for the weather, so we didn’t sleep cold. The cabin is tiny (as stated), but don’t let that deter you. It’s well appointed & thought out. The owners put so much love into every detail in this property. We didn’t take advantage of the provided StarLink WiFi, the TV, or the projector because we wanted to be as analog as possible. We DID play an epic game of Monopoly & we cooked every meal in the outdoor kitchen. The compostable toilet was surprisingly inoffensive. The cedar chips do a great job of warding off the offending #2 odors… there were some minor adjustments to having to pee beforehand. Did not use the outdoor shower simply because the thought of being wet outside when it was so cold out didn’t sound appealing to us. Stuck to using travel body wipes when necessary. I DID do a cold plunge in the swimming hole on the only mildly temperate day when the sun came out for a visit! It was refreshing & fun. Kids fished (no catches). Last morning there, I swear my boyfriend & I (sleeping in the tent) heard Bigfoot walking by!!!! You feel like you’re in a world forgotten, even though you’re still so close to everything.

Stone Mountain was exceptionally accommodating, creating a winter camping pad for my vehicle, crowned with rooftop tent. After the first snow, the host checked in to make sure everything was good. The new bathhouse was especially appreciated for cleanliness and hot water. Looking forward to a meadow experience this spring.

2 nights at The Awakening Garden
This was such a cozy and wintery cabin experience. My partner and I stayed over New Years Eve and enjoyed the snow falling, the wood stove firing away, a full moon, and blissfully almost no cell service at all (relief!). It was magical to drop into quiet woods and appreciate an absolutely tranquil experience all around. We decided we want to come back for another round once it warms up this spring/summer!
Tips for future guests: in the cold season, acquire PLENTY of firewood as it takes a lot to stay warm! But once the little cabin heats up, its plenty hot, especially up in the loft. We loved going to Ambrosia Diner down the road too, and bearing witness to the waterfalls of the Catskills.

Weekend Trip to The Awakening Garden
My partner and I were able to spend a really lovely weekend at the Twin Oaks cabin on Peter's campgrounds. We spent most of our time riding around on motorcycle and got in after dark on both nights. The view of the stars just overhead of the cabin was gorgeous. It felt gratifying to build the fire in the woodstove each night, which heat up the little cabin in no time. We got to see more of the thoughtful details in the cabin and even in the outhouse and outdoor shower as we were packing up on our last morning there. We'll be back in the area this time next year and would love to make it a new tradition to come back to theTwin Oaks cabin! Thank you for offering this space!

This place is the best! We spent an October weekend here with our dog, and it was a wonderful experience. We lucked out that the moon was nearing new, so the stars were incredible! The creek is absolutely beautiful and right by the camp, so you can fall asleep to the sounds of the river running. The grounds were perfect for our dog to explore while we sat by the river and read books. If you like to cook over the fire, there is a separate pit with a grate for you to use. Pierre was a warm and welcoming host and was readily available when we had any questions. Highly recommended! We hope to come back in the summer and swim in the creek!

Hosts were super friendly and all the extras we got (solo stove, firewood, eggs, and gear shuttle) were amazing! The site is really private and quiet. Most of the meadow is at an incline but the top of the site has some mostly flat spots to pitch tents. Just don’t expect it to be super flat. Had a lovely time and definitely would come back!
