Leishman point is owned by the Town of Waddington and was created during the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Dredge spoils were transported and placed creating a tract of land that rises 50 feet above the river and surrounding lands. The New York Power Authority acquired the property from the Leishman's who owned and operated a farm on the surrounding lands. In 2000, the New York Power Authority deemed the property surplus and conveyed it to the Town of Waddington. This Hip-Camp endeavor is hopefully our first step in creating a fully functional RV Park and campsite for everyone to enjoy. Visit the Town of Waddington Museum at the Old Town Hall for more information on the construction of the the St. Lawrence Seaway and how it transformed Waddington. The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins. When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience. With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking! Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition. The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September. There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

It is located where there was once an old stone barn, and all that is left is the stone foundation. Set around shrubbery trees, with two big maples at the parking spot to provide shade and coverage. You will be able to watch lots of deer frolic and play in the meadow and hear the sounds of the wildlife and birds around the woods. Our cabin is tucked away, bordered by NYS Forever Wild land to the south and west and few neighbors to the north and east. Built by a local doctor in 1924, this cabin was his family's summer home. He was also a talented watercolor painter and his original work is displayed throughout. We are only the third owners and we have been enjoying the cabin since the 80's. In the last 30 years we have introduced some creature comforts (hot/cold water, electricity) while maintaining its original charm. In a time where it is so hard to disconnect from the world, we offer a comfy bed, fresh air, starry nights, a fire and no cell service at the cabin. Learn more about this land: Come, sit back, disconnect and relax in our unique cabin in the Adirondack Park. Our 100-year-old cabin comfortably sleeps seven. There are two small private bedrooms: one with a queen and the second with a full bed. The third room is open to the living room and features a bunk bed. Linens, blankets and towels are provided. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, a full-sized stove, refrigerator, microwave and farmhouse sink with hot and cold running water. The bathroom has a flush toilet, sink and tub with handheld shower. There is a pellet stove (pellets provided) in our kitchen/dining area and a wood stove (wood provided) in the living room. Both bedrooms have thermostat controlled electric heat. The cabin is a true escape: no internet, no telephone and hit or (mostly) miss cell service. There is electricity if you need to recharge a device and there is a great sound system to Bluetooth your tunes. Built by Dr. James Cormier in 1924, our cabin became a summer getaway for his family. He was also an artist and his original watercolors still adorn its walls. We are only the third owners in nearly 100 years and we have been building cherished memories there for decades. We have made improvements to the property while retaining its charm. There is one P/T neighbor who shares our driveway but the property provides privacy. We are adjacent to a NYS Forest Preserve and surrounded by woods. The cabin is a short drive from Lake Placid and Saranac Lake and close to hiking the Adirondacks, canoeing in the St. Regis Canoe Area, close to the Six Nations Indian Museum and an easy drive to the Visitors Interpretive Center at Paul Smith’s College. For the water and fishing enthusiast a 3 minute drive or 10 minute walk brings you to the North Branch of the Saranac River, Rainbow Lake and Lake Kushaqua. Local fishing, and hunting opportunities abound. The cabin’s location also offers history buffs a chance to explore the impact of tuberculosis sanatoriums which served patients from the big cities in the early 20th century. Sites are available to explore within walking distance and a small museum in Saranac Lake is worth the trip. Lastly, there is a cool antique store within a few miles whose owner is always available for conversation about the area. After a day of ADK fun, you can kick back around the fire ring (outdoor burning wood supplied) and take in the stars. Leishman point is owned by the Town of Waddington and was created during the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Dredge spoils were transported and placed creating a tract of land that rises 50 feet above the river and surrounding lands. The New York Power Authority acquired the property from the Leishman's who owned and operated a farm on the surrounding lands. In 2000, the New York Power Authority deemed the property surplus and conveyed it to the Town of Waddington. The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins. When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience. With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking! Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition. The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September. There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

All small cabins have coffee makers/mugs. Four complimentary sets of golf clubs are available to use to play at the local courses. In addition, four tennis rackets are provided. Exterior security cameras (filming and recording) are on the property, facing main entrance points, main cabin driveway and field. *Please note: There is a sixth cabin set further back towards the front of the property (#61), this cabin is not for use. There are also a few odd structures in the woods on the property. These include an old school bus, outhouse and small shed. They are not for use and are more permanent fixtures… Water is well water.

The camp is cozy, yet well appointed with everything you will need for a comfortable stay. The living space is one floor with 2 bedrooms, bath, kitchen (fully stocked with all cook wear and dishes and utensils), gas fireplace and screened in porch overlooking the lake. There is also a loft, that overlooks the living area with 5 beds, 2 singles, 2 doubles, and a queen. The camp is on a bank over looking the lake off a private road. Access to the lake is directly from the back right of the camp down a little path with staked in steps and a hand rail. Available for use are 3 kayaks, a canoe and 2 paddle boats for your enjoyment along with life vests. Guests have access to the entire house, use of the yard, propane grill, fire pit, 3 kayaks, a canoe, and a 2 paddle boats. Guests are also able to enjoy walking the private road around the lake. Bug Spray is provided but feel free to bring your own. I supply the brand OFF. Please respect any neighbors, property, and obey all posted signs. Guests will not have access to the shed. Please be respectful of the camp as I am opening my getaway home to share its beauty with you. All I ask is you respect and treat it as your own. Rural, secluded, wooded area in Amish country, roads are shared with horse and buggies please use caution. Then road to the camp is accessible by gravel/dirt private road. Blind curves and narrow road, again please use caution. Camp is located not too far from exploring surrounding areas like Black Lake, the Thousand Islands, Canada, Sackets Harbor, Clayton, Alexandria Bay and Watertown, and the Adirondack Park. They all are within a day's travel. The water is supplied by a spring fed well and is perfectly safe to drink, shower, and cook with. The lake is private and unfortunately offers no public access for motorized boats.

Wonderful spot and view! We were the only ones there which was great as the sites are very close together. They are not in the field anymore and lined up side by side. We’re not sure how we would have liked it if others were there. But the views were awesome. We do travel with our dog and there are a lot of dog walkers especially in the evening. Most are respectful and keep their dogs on leash but not everyone and we did have a dog run up to us while we were in our screen tent having dinner with our dog. We wish people would respect the rules but there’s always people who don’t. We were there mid September.

Woodland Grove Camping at Adirondack Adventure Base is such a gem. The property is calm, pristine, and full of charm with cute little trails to wander right on-site. It feels like a perfect mix of peaceful and fun. Bob and Sheila are the kindest, most thoughtful hosts, and it was such a treat getting to spend time with them. Mim is just the coolest human being ever and made the stay even more special. We also got to try their maple syrup, which truly was the best we’ve ever had. The spot is also in an ideal location, just a short drive to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and some of the most beautiful hiking and sightseeing in the Adirondacks. We left already talking about when we’ll come back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable Adirondack stay.

I was in the Potsdam area for several days and found this gem on hipcamp. The site is at the corner of a huge hayfield. No other people in sight, although some deer did wander across the far edge of the field one evening. I went over and met the sheep and cows. That is definitely an add on to consider for this site. Coffee at Park Bagels in Canton is super convenient, and if you are in a rush, there is a Tim Horton's nearby.

We loved our stay at this little cabin. It is well equipped and cozy. We enjoyed nice nights on the porch with the chiminea, cooked out on the grill and used the fire place for chilly mornings. The kitchen is well equipped and once you get used to the rain water for cleaning and spring water for drinking and cooking it’s pretty straightforward. The canoe availability with all the accessories to load it on your car to explore local lakes and ponds is an amazing amenity. The location is also great to explore the Adirondacks. From there we were able to canoe and fish, hike the Paul Smith’s VIC, have nice meals and swim in Saranac Lake, Zip-line in Lake Placid and, of course, sample the daily ice cream flavor at Donnelly’s. All this in just 3 days with the cabin’s great location. We would definitely stay here again when back in the Adirondacks region.

My husband, 2 dogs, and I had a fantastic time at this property on Sterling Pond!! It really is secluded and private, with only a couple waves to people passing on boat. My older dog who has never been able to be trusted off leash was even able to just drag her leash around because the space was so big and peaceful!! I am usually distrustful of cabins that hang out somewhat unoccupied in the woods (bugs and small animals housing usually), even brought a tent for back up, but the cabin was SO clean and beautiful. Perfect for our small little family and we felt safe and comfortable hanging out and sleeping in there. You can tell Tedra and Geoff love and care for the property a lot, as well as the people staying there. When we arrived the windows of the cabin were opened so the breeze had a chance to cool the inside which was much appreciated!! We printed driving directions to Catamount Mountain ahead of time which was a beautiful short hike. My husband was in fishing paradise! Fishing right off the dock or in the rowboat available, they wouldn’t stop biting! They also had a book there that helped us identify what fish he was catching! You are definitely off grid at this place which was a really nice break for my husband and I whose phones are usually going off nonstop. Can’t say enough nice things. If you’re looking for a fishing paradise, dog paradise, peace and quiet, and don’t mind a few bugs, this is the place to be. 10/10 recommend.

A nice four site HipCamp overlooking the St Lawrence River and Canada. It looks like they are working on adding utilities. We had a nice constant breeze from the west that kept us cool. It is a public park so you will see others and a lot of people took advantage of the open campsites for the river view. There were also a lot of dogs off lead so watch where you step. The cut pasture made for a nice hiking trail and the beach and playground areas looked nice. We didn’t need it, but we never found where to get potable water or where to discard your trash bag at the beach keepers cabin.

Dix cabin is great! I would definitely go back again. It’s very secluded (about a mile off-road), far away from other sites- so very private, and had everything necessary for one or two people. It’s a nice bonus that you have access to all the campground facilities (including boats for the lake). The camp caretaker was also very friendly and helpful.
