Dredge spoils were transported and placed creating a tract of land
that rises 50 feet above the river and surrounding lands.
The New York Power Authority acquired the property from the Leishman's who owned and operated a farm on the surrounding lands.
In 2000, the New York Power Authority deemed the property surplus and conveyed it to the Town of Waddington.

The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins.
When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience.
With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking!
Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition.
The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September.
There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

The water is supplied by a spring fed well and is perfectly safe to drink, shower, and cook with.
The lake is private and unfortunately offers no public access for motorized boats.

Located in a hay meadow that is farmed 2 to 3 times a year to provide food for our animals. Next to the meadow is a mix of maple and pine trees. In the spring we use the maple trees for maple syrup production. Learn more about this land:This site is close to the road but easy to access. It is located where there was once an old stone barn, and all that is left is the stone foundation. Set around shrubbery trees, with two big maples at the parking spot to provide shade and coverage. You look out to an open hay meadow. That abuts our maple sugar stand with a mix of pine trees in the woods. You will be able to watch lots of deer frolic and play in the meadow and hear the sounds of the wildlife and birds around the woods. You may hear the occasional horse-drawn carriage as our neighbors are Amish and utilize the road frequently. In the distance, you might hear a stray moo as we have three farms on the road that are home to a variety of cows.On the campsite, you are more than welcome to bring a pet and let them safely roam around the field, or take a walk around yourself. Sarah and Doug have an amazing slice of family history on this land. It's beautiful and unique with forest trails, open meadows, and the river. I enjoyed the wildlife--deer, frogs, songbirds--as well as the resident animals, Charlie Rose and Felix. Sarah and Doug were very welcoming, and when I picked a week of major downpours, they were very accommodating in making my stay more comfortable. I loved my stay, and this is a spot where I hope to return someday.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Birch's! Paul was quick with a response and friendly to work with. He was able to get us in on a last minute cancellation and worked with our schedule. This campsite and general store have been around for a long time and you can't miss it if you're going to Cranberry Lake. If your fortunate enough to get a spot, you'll quickly learn why this is one of the best views on the lake. It has everything you need!

This camp was AMAZING. I was able to snag site 4, with only 2.5 days notice. The photos dont do the camp justice. I thought I was going to be in someones back yard- but this is actually part of a lake side "camping village" so it was like a dozen rvs and 5 or 6 tent sites.
The lake was gorgeous. Paul also runs a continent store that has everything!
It was a great location, has free wifi, warm clean bathrooms, boat rentals, and more!

We loved staying at number 10 with our tent! The campground looked a little cramped with a lot of huge RVs but in reality we had a lot of space and everyone was super friendly. The set up is more for RVs though with no station to wash out dishes for example. But the view and lake and fun stuff to do totally made up for it.

Great spot right on cranberry lake. Sites are relatively tight but plenty of room to maneuver and park a travel trailer/5th wheel or motor home. Due to a scheduling issue we stayed on site 15 vs site 10. Site 10 is directly in the water with the best view in the campground for non seasonal renters. Site 15 is along the marina side with a nice view of that part of the lake. Campground is quiet with nice seasonal neighbors and staff. The dump station is a bit awkward to access but fine unless you’re super long or the campground is full with cars at every site. We had a good few nights and would for sure return.

I stayed in Maple Cabin and enjoyed my time on the property. I did some kayaking and swimming right from the boat launch. The cabin is very simple and came exactly as described in the listing. Sarah and her husband were very friendly and informative. I would absolutely return if the opportunity were to arise.

Weekend Trip to Lazy River Cabins
You'd be hard pressed to find a better location for a quick get away, or an extended camp stay.
The property is gorgeous and well maintained. Our cabin was in clean and equipped with a fan, heater, lighting, ect...
The hosts are so gracious and care deeply for everyone's experiences on their property.
With mini golf, roller skating, trails to walk, a river to swim in, and so much more - This location truly has it all.
We couldn't have asked for a better stay and we can't wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Sterling Pond
We had an incredible visit to the Pond! The place is truly magical, with a view of both the sunset and sunrise over the most peaceful pond. The property has many supplies (spices for cooking, boats, life jackets, tons of frying pans, towels, etc.). There are two cabins; the white one is insulated, and the red one is more rustic. Would recommend bringing an air mattress, as the futon is a bit small. The black flies/mosquitoes were not that bad in late July. We hope to visit again soon! :)
