I'm in the process of putting back together and repairing a small house, and in the meantime, it makes for great indoor camping. There’s no shower, but the toilet and hot water work. It’s pretty bare-bones — that’s why I call it camping — but there’s a bed, a table, and some chairs. Pets are okay too! I’m about 3 miles from Old Town.

This is a small private plot of land just outside of town that used to be a homesite. There are NO AMENITIES currently, but possibly in the future. RV site is for DRY CAMPING ONLY. Pets are allowed but must be contained due to the nearby road. The property still has a few areas that need a bit of cleanup, but the advantage is that it’s a private site conveniently located just outside of town. The Town of Mountainair is known for its vibrant arts scene, local studios, and galleries. It offers a true small-town feel with great restaurants, including the famous—and haunted—Shaffer Hotel. There are even rumors of sightings of the ghost of Billy the Kid! While not entirely remote, this is a peaceful spot where you can sit outside and marvel at the galaxy of stars visible on a clear night. You’ll be neighbors with the Forest Service and only a few miles from Cibola National Forest, the Manzano Mountains, and several Park Service sites such as the Abo and Quarai ruins. Nearby, you’ll also find a farmer’s market, a grocery store, and a few dollar stores for essentials. This is a great location for birdwatching, spotting small wildlife, and occasionally seeing deer. My favorite memory growing up here was listening to the great horned owls—you’ll likely find owl pellets and other interesting natural treasures on the lot. While the 4-acre property isn’t large enough for real hiking, it’s perfect for peaceful walks and exploring nature. Please note: there is still some debris left from the old homesite, such as tires, but cleanup can be arranged based on rental interest. Campfires are welcome, as long as they comply with current Forest Service fire bans. You must bring your own water for fire extinguishing.

Weekend Trip to Secluded Indoor Camping

This was the perfect spot for my quick trip to Albuquerque. Tara was great with communication and the space was super cozy. Everything you might need for a good night's rest or more if you're needing a warm, safe, comfortable place to hang. The location is perfect for whatever your adventure brings, easy access to key spots on the city and beyond. Tara kindly provided bedding and the house has all the things you might need (minus a shower as she thoughtfully advertised). A great alternative to a vacation rental and better than camping (no gear required). Such a great offering!

Had a great night at Michaela’s spot. Felt very safe and comfortable on my own. She was very welcoming and friendly when I arrived and was nice enough to make me coffee in the morning before heading out. We chatted and got to know each other a bit which was lovely. Weekend Trip to Secluded Indoor Camping

Tara has done a wonderful job at creating a nice clean space in her home that she is renovating. I loved it so much! I highly recommend her as a host. It's in a quiet neighborhood and easy to find. I will def stay here again if it is available in the future.

Tara is a gracious host and I love staying at her place at the end of a dead end road. It was way more than indoor camping and the best deal in Albuquerque in my opinion. There is a microwave, small fridge, small coffee pot, toast oven and temperature controlled space. Tara is an interesting person too!

Excellent place to stay. Close to town but very quiet neighborhood. Slept great each night. Somewhat steep driveway but parking space is very level and easy to get backed into the space.

1 night at Peacock Lane

We stayed here with Luke twice, both coming and going through Albuquerque. We found the site to be very convenient to everything we wanted to see, and to access the freeways. Luke, as our host, was an excellent communicator, and was most accommodating, letting us know we could have late check out one day as his next guest was not coming until later. The site was level, private, and quiet. One thing to be aware of— we are somewhat small/ 40 Ft combined truck and trailer, and with another camper already occupying the rear of the camp, the turning radius was a little tight and took a little skill. This was not a deal breaker- just something to be aware of.

The place was beautiful and the hosts were very warm and welcoming. The place is close to coffee shops, supermarkets, and close to Albuquerque down town. Convenient, friendly, and warm.

Tara's place was more than I had hoped for for a place to sleep during the balloon festival and adventures around Albuquerque. It's in a quiet neighborhood and near old town. She provided a comfy bed, extra bedding, dining table and chairs, microwave, toaster oven, small fridge, kitchen sink and toilet. If you have extra people she'll also provide an extra mattress. Remember to bring mosquito repellent, as there are many mosquitos in the area.

Weekend Trip to Casa de Cass - City Oasis

Casa de Cass was a perfect spot for us! The location made visiting the Albuquerque sites easy. We loved the private spot and the hot outdoor shower. Cass and Chase were great hosts and provided us with everything we needed. We will definitely stay there again when we visit Albuquerque.

Weekend Trip to Casa de Cass - City Oasis

Cassidy and Chase’s space was awesome. It was a nice little city oasis with everything we needed to be comfy. Our kids loved the outdoor shower and their dogs, cats and chickens! The street light over the compost toilet is great for night lighting but if you are sensitive to light while sleeping, I’d recommend an eye mask. There are also lots of doggies in the neighborhood that like to talk to one another. A pair of earplugs tuned them out just fine when it was time to sleep. Overall, highly recommend this spot. It was a glamping-level experience. Cass and Chase were so great with recommendations and making sure we were comfy the whole time. And the kids toys were a great addition to spark imagination with our boys.
