There is a beautiful hike to a mountain lookout view of an amazing panoramic of lakes and mountains including Mt Washington and Pleasant Ski mountain. From 5 Kezars rd turn right onto Kezars Ridge Drive, the last camp road before the pavement ends.) At 0.6 miles keep right onto 5 Kezar Ponds Road. Look for a GLLT sign on the right. This is the Mountain Trail. There is a second access 0.5 miles farther west on 5 Kezar Ponds Road for Ron’s Loop. It will turn back into dirt. Keep on this road until you see a beautiful stone house on your left. Keep going just up the hill and you will see a right turn into the woods where you can park. There are no signs for Kezar gorge. Hike towards the sound of the falls. There is a small cave under the falls you can climb up into if you are a strong swimmer. There is a second set of falls if you hike down the river. A most magical spot for sure. Virginia lake is in the White Mountain National forest and is only 6 miles (n a ten minute drive away) Sometimes you have to hike in a bit to get to the beach. Shallow beach is great for children and dogs. Keewayden Lake Dam is a fun place to swim in a local lake. Carter's Cross Country Ski Center and Shop has been a family-owned business since 1984. The land on which the trails have been built on has been in the Carter family since the late 1700's. The first Carter who came to Bethel was the first doctor in the area that helped Mollyocket, a Native American medicine woman. All the different generations that came along after were either farmers or loggers or both. Carter's XC Ski Center is located on the banks of the Big Androscoggin River. We live on 75 acres of woods and hay fields. Larry is a self-taught hay-farmer since we moved from the mid-west in 2007. The property was a fallow dairy farm from the 70's. It used to be called Common View Farm. We hear the name came from the fact that we can see the Craftsbury Common from the height of the property. Legend holds that people have seen strange lights and orbs in the area. It may just be a yarn told by the locals to the new flatlanders. I have never noticed anything of the sort and I have been looking. Who doesn't like a good New England ghost story? Larry farms about 30 acres of the property; square bales for horses. The rest are woods. We have our own old mare, Ruby, which gave Larry the haying idea. She has two goat buddies, Danny-Boy and Brownie (guess what color he is?). Our dog, Tinker, runs the land and loves dog friends as well as humans. Our views are of the Lowell Mountains closest and the Green Mountains in the distance. You can see the Lowell wind farm on the horizon. We have a large garden and raspberry patch. When in season, you are free to pick! The house on the property, Larry built. It's a beauty. He also has two shops and some barns. No shortage of farm implements. You are welcome to walk to your heart's content and to visit Ruby and the boys. Learn more about this land: The Northwoods Gypsy Wagon is a 3-minute walk into the woods from the parking area.  You can have all the solitude you'd like or visit the nearby towns.  In this off-grid wagon, you will have an indoor cooking stove (2 burner propane) and a propane stove for the cooler nights but no running water, therefore no indoor plumbing.  Fresh water, battery operated lights, solar panel which provides one lamp and a place to plug in your phone, coffee/tea set ups. Wi-Fi/cell cov is not available.  There is a privy exclusively for the wagon and a place for a cold-water wash up.  This is truly tiny space, however; sleeps 2 adults. 3 nights at Vermont Rustic Retreat

Kathleen and John’s cabin is a treasure. It’s exactly as cozy and beautiful as the pictures suggest, and well stocked with the essentials for a comfortable stay. I spent 4 days in December there during consistent snow fall and high winds and never suffered for it. There was ample wood for the stove and fresh water. It was an ideal setting for my trip. And beyond all that, the hosts were extremely thoughtful and caring, even going so far to help me unstuck my car from the unforgiving vermont snowscape. I can’t recommend it enough. 10/10

The cabin is beautiful and cozy, the location is peaceful and serene, and the available amenities on site and nearby all make this a seamless way to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Vermont.

Small, cozy, and warm cabin. It snowed 2/3 days we were there, and wood stove kept us toasty! Dog’s enjoyed the little trail to the power lines in the morning. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

The cabin was a perfect retreat for my husbands birthday. Our dogs enjoyed all of the outdoor adventures and cozying up with the wood stove. There’s enough creature comforts to feel at ease while also enjoying the simplicity of being in the woods.

Mark greeted us immediately when we arrived and was incredibly friendly and helpful. The cabin is clean and cozy. The composting outhouse was one of the nicest I've ever seen! Relaxing by the firepit on a chilly morning was wonderful. Could not have asked for a better stay.

2 nights at Vermont Rustic Retreat

The view is beautiful! We were lucky to have arrived after a few inches of snow had fallen and it stayed on the trees the whole time we were there-it was absolutely gorgeous! We saw deer cross the road, heard owls and coyotes. Trails at the end of the road. As it states the cabin is small but Kathleen made excellent use of the space and 2 adults in there was just fine. Very cozy, more than enough wood to keep the woodstove going and have campfires. Everything you need is already provided. Was cloudy when we were there but on a clear night it would be a fantastic place to stargaze. Kathleen was a wonderful hostess. Very accommodating, very responsive and just a sweetheart all around.

We loved staying at Kathleen’s place! The cabin is very private, feels completely safe, and the view is fantastic. Everything was very clean and nicely organized, and the minute you arrive you have everything you need. Even though the weather was cold, we stayed cozy and warm thanks to the wood stove, which was surprisingly efficient. The kindling and firewood were fully stocked as well, making the stay easy and comfortable. A wonderful experience overall! Thank you:)

Staying at Kathleen’s cabin was exactly the place we needed to unwind and enjoy Vermont at its fullest. The cabin has the most amazing view on the valley. It’s really well equipped and has everything you need. Kathleen was super communicative and even helped us find the cabin in the dark (we missed the sign). We stayed there with our dachshund who loved running around and feeling free outside of the city!

Me and my boyfriend recently stayed at this cozy cabin for a long weekend, and it exceeded all expectations — peaceful, rustic, and beautifully nestled in nature. The cabin was clean, well-maintained, and provided just the right level of comfort for a relaxing escape. Mark was incredibly welcoming upon our arrival. He personally guided us to the cabin, which sits tucked away behind his home — far enough to feel private and secluded, yet close enough for easy access. He even provided us with firewood, which made our evenings by the fire especially cozy. Throughout our stay, he was respectful of our privacy but checked in just enough to make sure we had everything we needed. His local recommendations were spot on and really helped us make the most of our time in the area. There’s a full bathroom with a warm shower just a short walk down by the main house, which was convenient and added to the “off-grid but comfortable” charm of the stay. Overall, a wonderful retreat for anyone looking to unwind and reconnect with nature. We’d absolutely stay here again!

Cabin was just as expected! We arrived late at night and Sallie was very communicative and responsive, helping us arrive safely. We were only able to see a bit of the pond in the early morning before having to hit the road but it was very peaceful.
