Nestled among towering trees and serene natural surroundings, The Retreat at Big Grizzly Creek is a tranquil haven located within feet of a gently flowing creek. As you enter the campsite, the refreshing sound of water trickling over smooth rocks immediately captures your attention, creating a symphony of nature's melodies.
The Retreat is located within minutes of the small railroad town of Portola, CA, 5 minutes from the boat launch at Lake Davis, and a couple of minutes from the public golf course, Grizzly Ranch. The property the campsite is on is over 3 acres with the creek being the western border. The property has numerous overlooks of the creek and surrounding fauna with a short hike. Currently, I am building a trail and a sitting area over the most perfect view atop a rock outcropping, perfect for sipping coffee in the morning or beer. No judgment here! We have big plans for this little piece of the earth we own and are excited the share it with you.

Cute little cabin nestled in Tahoe National forest . This little gem is on an acre of land surrounded by national forest land. Close enough to Lake Tahoe to get to but also away from the Tahoe chaos.
Host lives on property , but will most likely be out and about most of the day. There are two neighbors but both own 20 acres so you can not see them, feels very private.
The front of the property where the cabin is located there will be some highway noise being close to highway 20 , especially during a busy weekend. you can’t hear highway noise while in the cabin and towards the back of the land.
However it is nice to be so close to highway 20 because it leads to several different destinations. ( west : Nevada city. east: towards Tahoe, and both directions there are soo many lakes/ rivers )
Tiny house: •Full sized futon downstairs and king sized mattress in loft. Electric fireplace, all the game boards , cards, chess, fire pit, projector for movies if requested!!!
•Additional guests are welcome to pitch a tent on the land if needed.
•Hot plate, toaster oven, mini fridge, kitchen appliances, coffee (French press, drip, mocha pot). Black stone grill outside. Fire pit , check if fires are allowed during booking
•Separate bathroom with compost toilet or a short walk to outhouse. Outdoor shower in the making, message if available.
FUN: •Lake Spaulding is about 1/4 mile hike down from the property. There is a boat launch and plenty of room to park it on the property if you want to bring a boat. Also have two paddle boards you are welcome to use.
Rivers/lakes/swimming holes: •emerald pools, crystal clear water , cliff jumping , waterfalls . 10 minute drive •south yuba river 5-15 minutes depending on the spot (ask for recommendations ) •bowman lake road connects to several lakes . 10 minute drive •lake valley reservoir , 10 minute drive •donner lake, rent kayaks, paddle boards or a boat. 20 minutes • eagle lakes rd swimming hole about 5 minutes •truckee, the cutest town with fun shops, restaurants and bars, 25 minutes . Bright Bear Camp is a private two-acre property bordering Tahoe National Forest. We are located at 4300' elevation down a mostly dirt road along the beautiful Bear River and Bear Valley. This is a very peaceful spot among the trees with a small meadow and creek on the property.
As our name suggests, bears are occasionally in the area so keep an eye out. You may also see the spotted owls that live nearby - listen closely for their calls (https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Spotted_Owl/overview).

I had an incredibly rejuvenating time at the Scotts Dear Lodge! Krysten went out of her way with little gestures to make the space feel clean, comfortable, and inviting. A home away from home, if you will. It was also incredible waking up with a cup of coffee while it snowed outside! The kitchen was fully stocked with all the supplies you would need to prepare a nice home-cooked meal for yourself, and the wood-burning stove was also a highlight! I recommend this spot to anyone looking for a trip for a small family, couples, or solo adventurers! Don't miss out on this charming spot

Staying at this magical little cabin in the woods was everything you could ask for and then some. We had a great time just enjoying the quietness of the area and just the sounds of the Yuba river. The cabin was beautiful and just felt like staying in a piece of history with how beautiful it was inside and out. Stay here and you wont regret it, only that you didnt book a longer stay.

Weekend Trip to The Retreat on Big Grizzly Creek
This is a really great spot and we enjoyed our stay! We enjoyed the roaring creek next to us and hearing the water as we went to sleep and upon wake up! The tent was well built, felt cozy and secure. The propane heater provided was a MUST as we stayed mid-Oct and the nights were cold outside. It heated it up very quickly and we had to turn it down while we slept it got so toasty. While there are 2 options for parking, if we weren't able to park where we did (closer to the tent), it would have made for more difficult logistics. We just barely were able to get our full-sized truck backed down the path (between the posts) in order to park close to the tent. In muddy weather this might have been more challenging. FYI - you need to have some pretty decent backing up and maneuvering skills to back down through the gate, esp if you have a full sized truck like we did. We did navigate to this spot at night which was a bit challenging in the dark but everything worked out well. This is a nice, secluded and peaceful spot!

I enjoyed the stay! Going into the stay I was a bit nervous as I have never used Hip camp before and Kelley was super helpful/responsive to any questions I had. I would stay in Peral again, the trailer was clean and cozy. I live in the woods but it was a good change of environment and a great place to sit outside and listen to nature. Do try not to forget anything because the closest gas station is about 20-30mins away

This was our second time staying in Pearl for my birthday weekend (we came for the first time in 2023) and our stay did not disappoint! You can see and feel that Kelley puts a lot of intention into her home space and all the different sites and facilities. The sauna was a new experience this time, and it was SUCH a vibe. Being with the fire in the sauna as well as experience the bucket cold plunge was super healing and relaxing. It’s so nice that her spot is so close to emerald pools, too. Our little doggie had the time of his life roaming around and sunbathing. We will definitely be back again! Thanks Kelley for hosting us again 😌

Really enjoyed staying at Kelley’s twin creeks cabin spot. Like others mentioned her sites feel very remote but not too secluded. There’s a very nice and private river nearby within walking distance to enjoy. Place was very clean and neat when we arrived.

We absolutely loved our stay in Pearl, the Airstream! It had everything you could possibly need for cooking, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the space itself was so cozy and thoughtfully put together. The property was gorgeous and in such a great location, close to some amazing hiking. We did Lake Spaulding, which was only about a 15-minute drive, and it was beautiful.
Kelley was a wonderful host. So kind, welcoming, and full of great recommendations. We only have positive things to say about our experience, and we were both genuinely sad to leave. Highly recommend staying here!

We had such a fun and peaceful time at Ari’s little piece of heaven. It’s a very cute getaway surrounded by tall trees, so it’s in the shade most of the day. It never felt hot in the tiny house, even though the temps where in the high 80’s.
It is obvious that a lot of love and thoughtfulness is being put into the property to make sure the guests have a lovely stay. We loved everything about it. Taking a shower outdoors under the blue skies and trees was very nice. Enjoyed the outdoor meals and sink. She had just finished the bathroom and it was a very nice and appreciated addition.
The lake is a 15 min nice hike away. Ari greeted us upon arrival and showed us how to get to the trail. We went to the water first thing and had a good time before a beautiful sunset dinner. Ari lives in the main house 20 feet away from the tiny house, but went away for the weekend so it felt very private.
Me made great memories there and the kids can’t wait to come back!

Arianne's place was awesome. The hut itself was nice and cozy for my girlfriend and I, and our dog. The blackstone out near the fire pit was my personal favorite! Spaulding lake was a short drive away and made for a nice swim on the hot day we stayed. Overall, would def stay here if you're looking for a comfy place to stay.

Weekend Trip to Pequena Huts
Great spot just a 2-minute drive to beautiful lake Spaulding. We loved it!
Our boys & the dog camped outside in the tent while we slept in the tiny house.
Hostess was very attentive and available.
Recommend for a nearby lake glamping getaway!!

We really enjoyed our stay in the Pearl. The airstream is impeccably clean and the main bed is very comfortable. We were a family of 4, with 2 teens, so it was a bit crammed for them in terms of sleeping space. Kelley is a phenomenal host. She answered my numerous questions via email and text and greeted us with a big smile and a lovely demeanor.

The cabin is just like my home with the usual amenities, yet has the added benefit of being out in nature. It is very close to Hwy 80, so no guesswork of where to find it. The bathroom/shower, the firm bed, the great kitchen/dining nook layout and the living room all make for a very comfortable stay. My pup and I enjoyed exploring the 'hood; I saw only one person during my four day/three night visit, so the remoteness and quiet away from suburbia was most welcome. Krysten was most responsive to my questions. Will visit, again, for sure.
