This entry is to give you an overview of the farm and also in case you want to hold a laid-back, nature-oriented, special event at the FFF, where our mantra is, “nothing will be perfect, but everything will be fine.” So, if you are looking for artificial perfection, look elsewhere. This is camping, not Glamping!
---For any of the guest houses, bring your own linens or sleeping bags, or rent from us.
---The Blue Bedroom has a double bed in it, as does the Hippie Van. Both have either air conditioners or heaters as needed.
---The Big Yellow Bus has a queen bed and two sets of bunk beds in addition to a wood stove, air conditioner, small refrigerator, and a microwave.
---Braden's Brown Bus has a double bed and a futon, air conditioner, sink and a small refrigerator.
---The Hippie Van is a painted VW van with the seats removed and a double bed built in. AC and Heat are available.

You can camp, wander, head down the road to Viking Lake. Easy, relaxing and not too many rules. I don't do trash, unattended firepits or really loud gatherings past dusk. I love to camp but, this is our oasis. We also have outdoor dogs that help keep the coyotes and wildlife at bay. The means that they may bark at night.

Our property is a quiet stretch of rural southwest Iowa farmland near Hawthorne, centered around a peaceful, stocked pond surrounded by wide-open row-crop fields. This isn’t a commercial campground—it’s a simple, private slice of the country where you can slow down, cast a line, float on the water, and enjoy true Midwestern quiet.
Set about a quarter mile off a low-traffic gravel road, the pond offers privacy, minimal noise, and very low light pollution. On clear nights, the sky fills with stars, and the sounds of frogs and evening breezes replace traffic and city noise.
The pond is stocked and open for catch-and-release fishing. Swimming is allowed, and guests are welcome to bring kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and other non-motorized watercraft. The shoreline is open for walking, relaxing, and finding your favorite sunset spot.
An old railroad caboose sits near the pond, adding a unique touch of character and history to the setting (interior not accessible).
This is intentionally a primitive camping experience. There are no hookups, no potable water, and no restroom facilities at this time. A 110V outlet is available near Site A for light-duty use, and trash drums are provided. Guests should come prepared and plan to be self-sufficient.
We welcome respectful campers who appreciate simple outdoor experiences—quiet mornings by the water, kids learning to fish, or peaceful evenings under wide Iowa skies. If both campsites are occupied, they sit across the pond from each other, allowing space and separation while sharing the same beautiful setting. Bill and Nancy were so kind, you can tell how much work and care they put into their property over the last 40 years to make it a magical experience with an emphasis on kids and families in mind. I loved going down to the creek with the kids and looking for fossils(there is an abundance of unique fossils!) skipping rocks, and jumping across the stepping stones. Watching my son and his friend play so freely made me feel extremely nostalgic, we live in the suburbs and theres not as many opportunities to allow the kids to run around and have free reign the way they were able to on the farm. I got to talk to the owners for a while and hear some of their story, each and every facet of the property has a unique history and personal story behind it, you can feel the memories made in the space. Bill is a very handy craftsman and artist and he was behind many of the structures on the farm along with other creatives over the years. We brought our two small dogs and they did a great job keeping pets in mind with the design, we had a fenced yard that the dogs could stay in while we explored, unfortunately one of our kiddos left our gate open and one of our dogs got out later in the evening, I messaged the owners and they got up and found my dog! I was really worried because of how open the space was. Truly wonderful people, and a truly wonderful farm with many opportunities for family fun and interacting with nature. 10/10 would recommend.

Cute camping community feel with a clubhouse. Clean bathrooms, laundry, and personal showers. There was a phone# to call if maintenance was required. Feels safe, fields for dogs and kids to run around. It's just off the highway, but far enough to feel like you're surrounded by nature. I'd stay here again, and recommend to friends and family.

It’s a nice field with very pretty sunsets and Super clean. Walking through the field and to the water is relaxing after a long drive. The grass does need to be cut and sprayed. I had 3 ticks on me and my bf had one when we got back from our walk. Also it needs a dump station but with that fixed we would be back for sure.

Beautiful stay! If you want gorgeous sunsets this is the place to go! Devlin was flexible and easy to get a hold of! On hipcamp the bathroom is always something I'm curious about 🤣 so here's the info- it was one porta potty for the whole place. There are quite a few sites and a good portion of them were full (even on a week night) so you ended up sharing with a lot of people. There was no toilet paper, but I never messaged Devlin to let him know so that was not his fault, sharing with that many people means there's a high chance of no to so being your own. You should also bring your own hand sanitizer as there isn't any.
They had some pretty walking trails down to a river. The river seemed low so it wasn't much to look at. The stay was near a gravel road and large trucks seem to barrel down the road so if it's dry you get a whole wave of dust blowing off the road so the best campsites are going to be the ones further back off the road. I can't remember if the map has the road on it but we were in site 6 and it was on the backside away from the road for reference.
All in all a good stay, nothing crazy exciting but the lots were level and mowed and the host was clear and responsive, really what more can you ask for?

This is my 2nd Hipcamp experience and once again very favorable. Devlin provided quick response to my few questions. We would not have found this jewel without being on Hipcamp. Spaces are spaced a bit more than most RV Parks. Had I read the descriptive I would have realized there was water for RV's at the entry, good electrical connection. Love the location, dark sky and quiet. If you enjoy gravel bicycling, plan to spend a few days in this area.

The campground felt quiet and private. The 5 mph speed limit kept things safe, and quiet hours at 10 p.m. meant we could actually hear the crickets at night. My dog was welcome and had plenty of room to explore on leash, which we both appreciated.
Overall, this is a great spot for anyone who wants a low-key, well-kept place to pitch a tent and relax. I’d happily come back for another night under the stars.

The Little River's Edge was perfect for our last hoorah for the summer. We tent camped in area A. I appreciate the fact that it's a good distance away from the rv lot so that you get a more primitive feel. The lawn where the tent sites are is well manicured and we didn't run into any burrs, stickers or goat heads. There's a lovely trail to the river, where if you look hard enough you will find coral fossil, chert, Jasper, and quartz. We listened to coyotes chat at night, saw a gorgeous blue heron in the little river canyon and even stumbled upon an impressive beaver dam. The location is very convenient. We visited Auburn, Brownville, Nebraska City, Weeping Waters, Plattsmouth, Omaha, Hamburg Iowa and Rock Port Missouri while staying at Little River's Edge. Devlin was a great host. Communication was quick and easy. I would definitely recommend this camp site, and I would return as well!
