Or, take an adventurous backcountry drive up Trestle Creek Road into the mountains of the Kaniksu National Forest where you can check out Lunch Peak Lookout, hike miles of pristine trails to one of the three nearby mountain lakes, explore several waterfalls, or drive the entire 35 mile backcountry loop down to the town of Clark Fork. If quiet rest is what you seek, find a secluded spot next to one of creeks where you can hang a hammock and listen for that still small voice. Or read a book until the peaceful whispers of flowing water and breeze through the trees lulls you to sleep. The salmon run usually starts during the last week in August or first week in September and lasts through late September. On-site trailer parking adjacent to the road is available. If skiing is your thing, Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort is an easy (and gorgeous) 45 minute commute. Don't tell anyone, but Schweitzer Mountain is an absolute gem of a ski resort with 2,900 acres of gorgeous skiing terrain (and epic views) for all ages and skill levels. Our family spends a good bit of time skiing here. Winter Driveway Access: a 4-wheel/all-wheel drive vehicle is required to climb our driveway during winter conditions. OUR STORY: We (Tim and Molly) spent 14 years raising our young family in the desert heat of north Phoenix. Every summer we went dispersed camping as many weekends as possible with our four (now five) children in the backcountry mountain ranges of northern Arizona. We watched our family grow stronger together and sibling relationships flourish as the mental and emotional grime of the city grind was slowly washed from our souls during idle morning hangouts, afternoon hiking adventures and evening stories and laughs around the campfire. We had a particularly amazing mountaintop experience in 2014 backcountry camping over Labor Day Weekend where we felt a strong calling to share with others the blessings we were experiencing. Our hearts were impressed with a desire to host a place in the "wilderness" where people and families could escape and unwind from the noise and pace of city life for a few days and maybe even have a mountaintop experience of their own. After several years of waiting for the right timing, we started exploring and found this place in January 2019. By April we had sold our home in Phoenix and moved our family 2,000 miles north to this 27 acre property on a mountain of Hope. We named it Maverick Mountain Home, which captures our love of the wilderness, our mission to care for the lost, and our desire to be unbranded by the world. Upon landing here we immediately got to work preparing. We've spent the last five years working on hundreds of different projects, including: rehabilitating our driveway, beginning a long-term whole-house remodel, building a chicken coop, maintaining our driveway, fencing in a new orchard, chicken yard, and pig yard, planting trees, replacing a spring house, maintaining our driveway, installing underground infrastructure for future guest facilities, clearing trails, milling lumber, and maintaining our driveway. In 2024 we dedicated a good portion of April and May to preparing our first HipCamp site, Living Water, which went live on our wedding anniversary at the end of May. We added our second site, Boondock Butte in July with plans for several more sites in coming years. Since the first booking on our opening weekend we've watched as that line from "Field of Dreams" came true in our "backyard" - we built it and they started coming. The homestead is managed in a permaculture design with back-to-Eden and HuglekulUtr gardens to have minimal impact on the land. We're just a 15 minute drive to Bonners Ferry where you can enjoy the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge, Snow Creek Falls, rent kayaks and venture on the Kootenai River, visit the Boundary County Museum, an Antique Mall on the way to town is always full of treasures, play at Kootenai Casino, visit wineries and breweries, many great local restaurants boasting great cuisine with small town charm including an AMAZING farmers market every Saturday May - September and great downtown shopping. Or if you are up for a scenic drive you can venture to visit the Yaak Falls, Kootenai Falls, Ross Creek Cedars, Baldy Lookout, Schweitzer Ski Resort, and much more. Here at our little offgrid homestead you have choice of tent camping in the forest or tent/van/car/rv camping in our field next to the Larch grove and Timberland property. With the river close by eagles are frequently soaring overhead. Turkey, deer, and elk are passing through daily. And there is no neighbors to be seen except our small chicken flock and you may be greeted by Buddy the Dog! Although if you are not a dog person feel free to let us know and we will accommodate you! If you have any questions about local activities, we'll happily provide you with great ideas and directions. Farm fresh eggs and firewood available for purchase and 5 gallons of non-potable water available with use of provided offgrid foot pump sink. Please note there is no cell service. If you want peace and minimal contact we can email everything in advance to have your accommodations met upon arrival and if you want to stop and chat about local activities or the offgrid homestead life just say the word; we're happy to be hosting you and want to make your experience a good one in any way we can! Tranquility on Trout creek is only 30 minutes from down town Bonner's Ferry, it's quiet and remote. Fall asleep to the babbling creek and breeze blowing through the treetops, or gaze at whatever may be happening in the sky! Our grounds offer an instant connection with nature. Wildlife is abundant, but large animals rarely approach the property. At the end of Trout Creek you will find the Pyramid and Ball Lakes trail head, where horses are also permitted. The hike to Pyramid Lake is easy, and a good day trip. We will be permitting horses at Serenity under individual circumstances and your needs. Our property is off grid so we cannot offer electricity. There are a few solar lights on the grounds, but a head lamp and charging box are most recommended. This is our first year, so your patience and suggestions would be so appreciated. To start we have 2 large RV spots, and tent or car camping is at your discretion, you pick a spot. A professionally maintained outhouse is provided, and you will have access to an abundance of the most delicious clean water. Soak your feet in the creek and take in the sounds of the birds and the forest. When the sun falls behind the mountain we will get the fire pit going (as long as we are permitted), circled with wood benches from our fallen trees. Bring your marshmallows! Our winter visit to the Far North was excellent. The cabin was a perfect place to spend time together. We loved the selection of books available to visitors during our stay. It was great to have kitchen equipment and to use it easily. The fireplace kept us nice and cozy on snowy, cold days outside. The Views are stunning, with no one around but our family. It was ‘dry’ camping because of the late season, but that did not stop us from having quality time together. I love that Paul provides firewood. He was great at communication and make us so welcome at his property.

We loved our stay at the farm! The tent was private in the woods and we came up to the farm’s shop for fresh ice cream and fresh eggs and also paid extra to help milk a cow haha our daughter loved the cows! The zipper didn’t work on the tent but otherwise everything was so lovely. We used the cook stove and they had some cook supplies in there too which was super nice. Would definitely recommend , I always wanted to try out glamping and the whole family had a lot of fun with it.

We really enjoyed our time at the Cedar Grove Campsite! The setting was beautiful, peaceful and serene. The river was just yards away from our camper. The bathroom and shower buildings were very clean and well equipped. We were able to explore the property freely and felt comfortable and able to relax. Our dog was able to roam around with us as well. She loved it! Paul was easy to communicate with annd answered all of our questions ahead of arrival. Highly recommend the Copper Creek Falls hike. Short and easy, with picturesque falls at the end!

Great little secluded area! The host was very accommodating last minute, and very responsive. The site was clean, and we were offered fire wood for purchase. It was too hot to use but was a nice touch. We also had some leveling items at the site ready for us on arrival. Would recommend!

Loved Paul’s little slice of the outdoors. Everything was thought of. Hookups , Bath house and bathroom right near the site. Lots of privacy. My boys loved fishing and exploring across the river, and Copper falls was a good hour excursion right around the corner. Only thing I accidentally over looked was this place is by the railroad. My toddler wasn’t such a super fan of that in the middle of the night , so if you’re tenting it just be aware it comes a couple times at night. Mosquitos are vicious - pack allllll the candles, spray and torches- day and night. We will be back next year, this place is so tranquil and leaves so much to be appreciated .

Great spot with river access, shade and so many amenities, it felt almost like glamping! Very thoughtfully outfitted. You can hear traffic and the train (road and tracks are quite near), but we quickly got used to that. Our three dogs had a wonderful time exploring and fishing for rocks in the river. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again - they may have spoiled us for other more ‘rustic’ spots in the future!
