Traveling this gorgeous country extensively since she was 12 years old, Charlie fell in love with the west and North Idaho. In 2016 she purchased this little slice of paradise in the remote Far North Idaho wilderness where she turned an old hunting property into an Offgrid Homestead. While many places have been stripped of trees only to be replanted by all the same species, this place was sustainably and privately logged leaving much of the natural tree diversity. Not many places can you find many different firs, pines, larch, cedar, alders, and birch all in one place. Perched at the edge of wilderness areas, national forests, and timberlands but just off a main road, you find yourself transported into the wild in a short drive! The property is frequented daily by all types of wildlife and is hugged by TWO mountain ranges. The homestead is managed in a permaculture design with back-to-Eden and Huglekulutr gardens to have minimal impact on the land. Learn more about this land: Easy access just 1/2 mile off main paved road with views of BOTH the Purcell and Cabinet Mountain Ranges. Our little slice of paradise is a great stop on your way to/from Glacier National Park (100 mi) or to come enjoy all that North Idaho and Western Montana has to offer. We are just a few miles from the Montana border and you can walk from your campsite to Kaniksu National Forest. We're just a 15 minute drive to Bonners Ferry where you can enjoy the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge, Snow Creek Falls, rent kayaks and venture on the Kootenai River, visit the Boundary County Museum, an Antique Mall on the way to town is always full of treasures, play at Kootenai Casino, visit wineries and breweries, many great local restaurants boasting great cuisine with small town charm including an AMAZING farmers market every Saturday May - September and great downtown shopping. Or if you are up for a scenic drive you can venture to visit the Yaak Falls, Kootenai Falls, Ross Creek Cedars, Baldy Lookout, Schweitzer Ski Resort, and much more. Here at our little offgrid homestead you have choice of tent camping in the forest or tent/van/car/rv camping in our field next to the Larch grove and Timberland property. This site is just beyond the Field by the Larch Forest Site and gives you a touch more privacy. If you love tent camping among the trees, but want to be closer to your vehicle, this is the spot for you. A mulched tent pad is provided at this location. Additionally, we have had people car camp but use the pad as their own place to put up camp chairs, etc just to have a private place to hang out. NOTE 1: this site may be blocked from reservation for RV campers of the Field by Larch Forest to accommodate parking and keep the experience less “campground-like” for everyone. NOTE 2: If you are interested in a group reservation, most groups book Field by Larch Forest and Forest Site #1 together.

This space is our most accessible space accommodating any type of camping, is the first space off of the drive for easy in/out access, and is our only site for RVs and travel trailers. A tent pad nestled against the trees and a fire pit are part of the site. The location allows you to park directly next to them. NOTE 1: RVs limited to dry seasons May-September due to road conditions. While we are not far off the main road our road and drive require 4x4 October - April. NOTE 2: If you are interested in a group reservation, most groups book Field by Larch Forest and Forest Site #1 together.

Charlie and her boys were wonderful hosts! It’s a quiet spot with several things to do close by. Charlie will give you great recommendations if you ask. Get yourself some farm fresh eggs from her!

I had a good one night stay at Charlie’s camp. The property is remote, quiet, and Charlie and her sons were great hosts. I pulled a 15’ trailer and there was ample room that was flat and includes a fire pit and wood included in your stay. I would stay here again if in the area.

Quiet little place just a few minutes off the highway. Very kind owner- gave us a few local hiking recos. Free range chickens will keep you entertained. Great for stargazing. Rooster will make sure you get an early start to your day. About 20 min from Bonners Ferry where there are services.

What a perfect stay! Charlie's site is lovely! I saw wild turkeys and deer as I walked around the property. She is so kind and generous. The compost toilet is just what you need for a rustic, simple camp experience. I bought some fresh eggs from her too! Thank you!

I enjoyed tent camping on Charlie’s land! The directions there were really clear & easy. Charlie & her family were super friendly & helpful, keeping us informed about nearby controlled burns & any inclement weather surprises. The fresh chicken eggs were a delicious add on to our stay. The land was beautiful & we felt like we had our privacy. We even got a visit from Buddy the dog who was very welcoming & friendly! Highly recommend a stay here!

We enjoyed our stay on Charlie's property so much! Charlie and her boys were incredibly friendly, kind, and accommodating. The farm fresh eggs each morning were such a nice add-on and we were even offered fresh herbs from the garden. Stars were amazing and it was a great place to spend a summer weekend.

Charlie's land was fantastic. Beautifully tucked away in the forest, very quiet, and plenty of space to sprawl out. Charlie and her boys came out to greet us and they had such wonderful hospitality. We also had a couple dogs with us and Charlie was very dog friendly. Would absolutely stay out at Charlie's again!

A Night Away for Myself

Lets just start with how clear the directions to this campsite are. I drove right to it! Charlie and her boys immediately came out to greet me and were so welcoming. Even their dog came out to say "Hi" later on and was so sweet. The field is good size and there is plenty of room to spread out. I was the only one there so I got to enjoy the noises of the homestead and decompress. I am impressed with the projects/plans that Charlie has going on and look forward to going back and seeing the progress later this year!

Drive in is a bit rustic for our popup camper. Camp site was fine, just a field, no defined space. Charlie and her boys are delightful.
