Located only 50 miles SE of Kansas City, MO! We have woods and pasture with Settle's Ford Wildlife area (fishing and hiking available) 1/4 mile away. Camping is primitive with only an outhouse and no shower facilities. There are MANY thorn trees, so hikers must have proper footwear. Fire ring, wood and a grate for cooking are provided. Livestock encounters are also available with owners in attendance. All proceeds are put back in the farm to care for the animals and the land. Parking area is at the end of the driveway and a cart is provided to take your gear across the bridge. We love kids and will provide lawn darts or any other games we have available if requested. We have a small vegetable garden in the spring and summer and a large flower garden space in progress. There's a small pond on the property. In additions to cows, we also have chickens, barn cats, and dogs. We have a second driveway and half-circle drive for parking a camper or car, as well as flat spaces to pitch a tent.
There is fishing nearby at the Amarugia Highlands Conservation Area and the city park.

We have two private sites, a primitive campsite directly on the Lake of the Ozarks, and a RV spot with full hook-ups (water, 50 amp AC, and sewer). The two sites are separated from each other, but both have access to the lake, including kayaks, a canoe, a paddleboat, excellent fishing, a boat-ramp, floating dock and a one-mile perimeter nature/hiking trail.
*** NOTE *** From January until early May, the lake level is dropped about five (5) feet, so boating and fishing access range from difficult to impossible (though, arrowhead hunting is a fun activity you might enjoy during the low water months!).
Primative Campsite - A private 1.5 acre campsite with a firepit (and plenty of wood to burn in it) and direct access to the Lake of the Ozarks. Amenities and features of the campsite include: a private camp toilet with a door and a concrete pad, picnic table on a gravel pad with an umbrella, a fully equipped cornhole game, fishing pole holders, a garbage can, three (3) level wood tent platforms, and even a big swing set!

Along with a well-appointed inside, we have chairs on the front porch for lake viewing and a grill for outdoor cooking too. There is also the Rustic Duck, a wonderful restaurant and art gallery, just a short walk away. Enjoy our little lake! This peaceful countryside cabin has a nice little lake just right for fishing just steps from the front door from which folks have caught catfish, bluegill, crappie, and bass. The Appleton City Lake does not allow swimming. It does not allow boats with motors. However, you could bring a kayak if you wanted. We have a community fire pit and picnic tables too. The grill is electric with pellets. We provide firewood for the pit and pellets for the grill.

We are a little over one mile down a level gravel road and just 3.5 miles total from the small town of Appleton City where we have a little restaurant, Caseys, a very nice little grocery store (closes 7 pm), coffee house (mon-sat 8 am-11 am), and Dollar General (closes 9 pm). I live nearby on the property and am available to greet you when you arrive.
Other things to note
Appleton City is a small town. If you are coming in late, you may want to stop on the way to pick up food. We have a few stores in town, but some folks are caught off guard to find out the stores close early. But Caseys has sandwiches and assorted quick items and is open until 11 pm.

Annie was extremely kind. Very easy to navigate and we enjoyed our time there. Unfortunately the shower did not work but she was very hospitable, she stocked us with a pack of water bottles (we also brought our own water) and otherwise enjoyable time. Easy to bring friends there and good for a group setting to hang out. We were careful of poison ivy on property but easy enough to stay away from and if someone is looking to get away for the weekend definitely a good place to go!

Mike and Arlene’s property is absolutely stunning. They have considered every detail and welcomed us so graciously. We loved everything about our stay, especially hearing about the decades they have spent creating this beautiful retreat. We stayed at the RV site, the full hookups were new and easy to use. Walking over to the primitive site was also a treat, both locations are wonderful. We especially loved using the kayaks, grilling at the gazebo, and watching the sunset over the lake. We’re already planning our next trip back!

Great camping experience here! Creekside 2 had a good amount of space to set up our tents and it was only a 5 minute walk to our vehicles. The hosts were super helpful with hauling our heavier items back and forth in their atv. Their land was fun to explore and the setting under the tree canopy at the site is beautiful (see photo from tent). Will definitely be back!

We enjoyed camping at Fangthorn Forest. Though it had rained previously and the wood was wet, the hosts let us borrow a blow torch to make a fire. The kids loved seeing and feeding the animals. We look forward to coming back again.

Stayed here on a bikepacking trip across the state and it was everything we needed for our night. Campsite was quiet and private. A bit buggy but they had a tiki torch ready to go for us that helped a lot. Short walk to shower/toilet. Host was very communicative and greeted us when we arrived.

There are SO MANY things to love about the Sawmill Hollow Campground!!!
If you want a beautiful setting, this is the place! If you want total peace and quiet, this is the place! If you want to camp someplace that has practically NO bugs, this is the place!!!
Mike and Arlene and Max, their sweet dog, are so pleasant and nice to visit with. And their front yard that has the gazebo or (shelter house) and fire pit looks like a park!
The lake comes right up to their property and Mike has built several benches with fishing pole holders all along the water's edge. And they have a dock and a gazebo and a fire pit and they even supplied the items for cornhole. And they let you use their canoes and kayaks and provide firewood for the fire pit. They really just go above and beyond for their guests!
The main reason why we went there above other places that we looked at was because our dogs could stay off leash the entire time. And it turned out that there were so many other amenities as a bonus. Max is so sweet and goes with Mike everywhere so if you have dogs that don't get along with other dogs, keep them home because Max isn't a fighter and doesn't deserve to be treated badly by nasty tempered dogs!
Out of 5 stars, I give Sawmill Hollow a TEN!!!

My wife and I spent two nights at this campsite, and I couldn’t recommend this site more! It’s an amazing property with even better owners. Mike checked in with us to make sure everything was going well with our stay, answered all our questions about the surrounding area and the wildlife, and told us about the history of the property!
We felt spoiled with the wooden platforms to put our tent on! We already have a tent that is on a cot platform, but having the extra wooden area around the tent to hang out in the early morning while you’re still waking up is the absolute best.
When the description says firewood provided; they mean it. We had a stack of wood that would have lasted the two of us for WEEKS. They even provided a separate bin of kindling wood!

If you’re looking to catch done easy catfish, look no further! We unfortunately weren’t able to land ourselves any bass like we had hoped but that was no fault of the hosts! Mike is extremely friendly and easy to talk to, and he checked up on us about twice everyday, usually once in the morning and once at night to see if we needed anything or had any issues! The campsite has 3 different platform sizes to accommodate whatever type you have, plenty of seating, and a nice and deep fire pit that has both a grill attachment as well as a hanging arm for something above the fire. Rod holders are alongside the rock wall at the edge of the camp near the water edge, and as said before when the water level is up this is definitely a pristine fishing spot, lots of cover for the fish to hold to, even right in front of your camp! The kayaks were a nice touch in case you don’t have a boat, you can still enjoy the water and they hold more than enough fishing equipment if you want to get out deeper. Overall definitely would recommend this site to anyone looking to vacation in the Warsaw area, can’t find much better than the amenities Mike has provided for you at the price.

We loved camping here, beautiful area and plenty of space to explore. I appreciated the helpfulness and kindness of the owners, they are lovely. There is a nice bathroom and coffee area, and a hang out area separate from the camping site. Very dog friendly. Will be back!

Such a wonderful trip! If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would. The hosts truly went above and beyond, and it’s clear how much care they’ve put into creating these camping and RV spots. Everything is clean, well‑maintained, and thoughtfully set up. It checks all the boxes for a great getaway -fishing, corn hole, dog‑friendly spaces, gorgeous night skies, and more. We’re already planning our next visit!
