The Hamlet Lake homestead is our 10-acre family home with two unique and private hip-camp sites. We have both lakeshore (in front) and a hobby farm with cows, chickens and goats in our back lawn and woods. The Hamlet Lake Bunkhouse is located to the west of our home in its own secluded parcel next to the lake. The Camp on Hamlet Hill (closed for 2026) is to the north of our home, on a remote flat hill at the top of our property, on a hill over Cedar brook. with 300-acre, (private) Hamlet Lake in front, and the wide portion of the 20-mile Cedar brook in the back. We are a large "homesteading" family, with chickens, ducks, and a garden. The campsite is a private 1/2 acre clearing, surrounded by woods with a firepit, grill, cooking utensils, and an outhouse. (Tents are available for a small additional cost). There is an outdoor water pump below the hill, near which guests can view our fenced-in animals. Guests can also access the waterfront and beach in front, with the use of the swim raft, lily pad, fishing dock, canoe, kayak, and paddle boards included. At nearly 100 feet deep, Hamlet lake also boasts excellent fishing. Our home is located 6 miles from Crosby, with the world-class Cuyuna Lakes 50-mile mountain bike trail system. Crosby is a growing tourist town with many new and unique restaurants, outdoor adventures, and shopping opportunities. The paved bike trail begins 3.5 north of us. Milacs lake is 10 miles to the south.

Our yurt sits on the edge of a wild woods on the banks of the Cloquet River overlooking a meadow that is an active forest restoration project currently in process. From your door, you can access a loop of trails that wind through the woods, to the river and back to the yurt. Get back to basics. There is no electricity or running water in the yurt. Camp lanterns and solar lights are provided as is refillable fresh water and a propane camp stove/oven with pots/pans/utensils. The yurt is heated solely by a wood stove and there is plenty of firewood a short distance away with a sled or wagon to use for hauling. A campfire pit is just outside the yurt with a hanging grill and grilling tools. A detached outhouse is a short walk from the yurt and is for your use alone when you're here. In the winter, a Luggable Loo is available to bring to the yurt to eliminate trips at night in the cold to the outhouse. The yurt contains a queen bed with linens and a single camp cot available on request.  Dogs are welcome in the yurt! We charge a $25 pet fee per reservation. If you'd like to bring a dog or dogs (limit 2), please add the Pet Fee which is listed as an extra during the booking process. In the warm months, the river is great for swimming and fishing. How we ended up in Knife Lake Township on 81 acres of forested land. We began looking for land in late fall of 1996. After several months of searching, we happened upon a tiny newspaper ad for 81 acres of land described as "Beautiful, secluded, mature hardwoods, tall pines w/creek & beaver pond, many gd bldg sites & great hunting". We toured the property, covered in almost two feet of snow, on a snowmobile in January 1997 and fell in love with it. We have been stewards of this piece of land for 25 years and are still enamored of its beauty and diversity. We are lulled to sleep by the sounds of owls and bullfrogs and the distant yipping of coyotes. Spring through fall we are often awakened by the rattling, honking of sandhill cranes and a wide variety of bird songs. Besides deer and lots of small critters, we've seen bear, bobcat, rafters of turkeys, quail, grouse, pheasant, owls, hawks and eagles. The sky, on a clear night, is breathtaking. We have always visualized sharing the land with others, so come and immerse yourself in this bountiful space.

I spent the best 2 nights at Gabeshiwin and looking forward to going back. This review is mostly going to be about the hosts. Kevin and Donna are amazing. I had booked a tipi and when the trip was approaching rain was in the forecast so they made last minute arrangements to keep me dry. Kevin was fast end efficient with communication and he couldn't have done more to accommodate my needs. The grounds are beautiful and so well maintained. If you take the time to look around you will find details that make your stay even more special. When the skies cleared I was able to share a bon fire with the Kevin and Donna which was the cherry on the top of my sundae for my stay!

The tipi’s and surrounding grounds were clean and manicured. Bugs were no existent inside and outside. Deer were always walking around the grounds. The tipi canvas were hand painted with natures animals. Ample fire wood, toilet and water were located in close proximity. We would highly recommend this non electric setting.

Weekend Trip to Harvest Loon Camp

This was the perfect quiet getaway cabin for our family. Nice and secluded cabin with access to the water! Fantastic cozy backyard area with firepit. The cabin itself worked great for us; open concept allowed for more family interaction, and then also able to shut the door and allow the early risers to make coffee and take showers while the teenagers get to sleep in a bit and not be disturbed. The cabin was a great blend of authentic rustic “cabin feel” along with some luxuries (A/C if needed, nice new addition with nice shower, laundry, etc…). Take the time to try the spring water down the road! The loons provided great company. Our golden retriever enjoyed the layout as well. It worked real well for having a dog. Great rental!

5 nights at Rustic River Retreat

We spent 5 days at this beautiful cabin. It was just right for two of us and our 2 dogs. Very comfortable. It has a beautiful trail to the river with a nice place to sit and enjoy the views. Our grandson enjoyed swimming and looking for shells. Kayaking was amazing. Our children had the other 3 tent/camper sites. It was the perfect size for a wonderful family camping trip. The bathroom clean and beautiful. The outdoor kitchen fit our needs perfectly. The outdoor shower was great!! Very peaceful and quiet.

Absolutely incredible property! Such a privilege to get to stay at Bob’s place. The cabin and setting are truly heavenly. We saw one boat the entire week. Beavers, owls, herons, muskrats, birds of many species. It is so well set up for outdoor cooking & eating. The beach and kayaks made the lake feel so accessible and enjoyable. The condition of the cabin is so wonderfully preserved and the new bathroom is such a perk. Can’t wait to go back!

The Timber Frame Barn Stay is in the center of the farm and has a patio overlooking the pond.

Weekend Trip to Medicine Creek Farm

Such a beautiful spot that is being cared for really well. We stayed with our 5 kids in the barn and it was a good fit! The barn is beautiful! Jason did a great job building it! The story of the barn is inspiring too, read the binder. We got fresh eggs and a farm tour, I recommend both. The kids loved holding baby lambs and meeting all the other farm animals. Would definitely visit again.

Great place and host was responsive. Only downside was that sites were close and made it a little difficult to share the space when a large family was there but would come back, just rent the entire site. Amenities were amazing and location was perfect.

This is such a gem. It was our second time visiting; first in the winter and now late spring. Can confirm it is great regardless of season! Such a beautiful view of the lake, comfy beds, great kitchen, really nice fire pit area. Definitely recommend just don't book it when we want to come! :)

Weekend Trip to Bundo's Cabin

Jon's property is the definition of a secluded retreat - absolutely stunning. It is very easy to get to, perfect lodging accommodations and plenty of space for our 2 dogs to roam. Do be mindful of the season you are staying - wish we would have brought tick repellent dog spray. Can't wait to return outside of tick season.

We loved our stay at Harvest Loon Camp. I took advantage of the beautiful cabin and natural surroundings to propose to my fiancé, and Bob worked with me to make sure it went off without a hitch. We love the property updates since we were last there: beach area, dock, and bathroom with shower.

Weekend Trip to Bundo's Cabin

Jon’s property was absolutely beautiful. Fully equipped with potable water sink, AC, fridge with small freezer, electric stove, and exceptionally clean outhouse. The sleeping loft was cozy but warm, would recommend bringing a small fan in the summer months. We unfortunately had to cut our trip short due to the ticks, but that was no fault of the host and he was extremely accommodating. If you come to the cabin during tick season please be prepared. Overall this is a great Hipcamp and would definitely come back in the fall!
