Weekend Trip to The Crow’s Nest

My hosts were warm, inviting, and gracious. Being a solo traveler can be scary sometimes but they made me feel right at home. Inviting me to their bonfire as well as offering to let me borrow their kayak plus a drive up the River. I cannot say enough good things about them. The wigwam itself was a unique experience and was very temperature controlled with a fan and comfortable beds. Be sure to bring your own pillows. I will definitely be back and with friends next time!

1 night at "Elysium Heritage Farm"

Awesome camping spot with a view of a walk bridge over a pond. We were greeted by a couple goats when we arrived. Many goats, chickens, rabbits and birds on the property to see. Lots of walk paths to explore. Nice walkway from campsite to a fire pit, grill, covered picnic area and little building with a compost toilet and sink inside. There are kayaks, canoes and a paddle boat to use on the little river. Kim is a fantastic person and a great host. We will definitely be back.

The campsite was beautiful and very easy to access. The pond is also great, and we had the best time going swimming. You can definitely hear the trains from the woods sites, so keep that in mind if you’re looking to rent. Would definitely return.

Let me start off by saying Bryan is a awesome host. Laura and I spent our time walking the trails, we seen dear turkey Fox of course Birds. Make sure you walk the trails at different times of the day. The site was spacious well-maintained and the bugs were minimal at the time of our stay. One of the evenings had a threat of bad weather and Bryan was kind enough to offer us a room in his house if the weather got too bad. Laura and I stayed on site number two and look forward to returning in the future. Once again thanks for everything Bryan..

2 nights at Chippewa Henge Camp

The property is very private, and really quiet. The common area is really nice. Chip was extremely friendly and helpful. He brought a huge load of dry firewood for me, and told me a little about the place. This was my second visit here, and I will probably go back again. The free firewood and the quiet beauty of the property, make it well worth the price!

1 night at B Mo's Hideout

Everything was lovely. Bryan was incredibly kind and helpful. My spot was quiet and secluded-exactly what I was looking for. My site even included a few chairs, a picnic table, composting toilet and hammocks to use. I'll stay again if I'm ever in the area.

We had a great time on Bryan's land! I definitely want to come back. It's a great little get away from your normal packed campground. Also, toasting your buns by the campfire is a 10 out of 10. Everyone should try it at least once in your lifetime!

We loved camping on Kim’s land! It was quiet and peaceful. We got a chance to feed one of the baby goats and it followed us all around the property which was so much fun! The site has a really nice area for a fire and a covered picnic table. The whole area is on wood chips so you don’t get quite as dirty which was really nice. We took some short walks on the property, did a little fishing, took the kayaks out, etc… Definitely recommend!!!

My wife and I are slowly starting up our own little farm. We have 2 indoor cats, 1 outdoor cat, a dog, chickens and two ducks. We are on 34 acres and have a river that runs through the middle of it. We are 10 minutes from Alma and 20 minutes from Mt Pleasant. Lumberjack park is about 2 minutes away and Stearns preserve is about 5 mins away where you can walk or ride bike on a nice paved trail. We have a small garden that we plant every summer and plan to start a small farm stand this year. We are in a quiet area with lots of wildlife. We have 1 spot near the house with a view of the river that can support electric hook for a smaller RV and can attach a garden hose for water if needed. We do have a “field” that RVs can use but there is no hook up and there ground may not be level. We have many options for rustic tent camping along the river. No public restroom available. We can also provide some fire wood for campfires for a small cost. Along the river fires are allowed but must be contained in a fire ring. If camping by the field fires will be dependent on conditions. We have 3 kayaks and a canoe that can be used with prior consent. There is a park up river where you can put in and then can exit at our house which is about an hour on the river. We are very new to this and just purchased a UTV so we will be able to start making trails and clearing areas. But for now, camping along the river you will have to walk (and carry belongings) through tall grass to the site you desire. Quiet time 11 pm. We are an easy going couple that just want to share this slice of paradise with others! WiFi available

Blanchard's Grocery store is also located in Crystal, and Crystal Raceway is just a couple of miles away. Enjoy the peacefulness, or head to town for all of the action. The Crystal Public Beach area has just been newly revamped and is gorgeous and active with lots of boats on the weekend anchoring by the shore and live music in the park.

Fishing-Perch, Walleye , catfish, bluegill, sunfish, pike and bass are common in the North Bay. Need fishing gear or a license? Stop to Norm's Sporting Goods at the traffic light in Au Gres for a local experience. Birdwatching- This spot is truly a birdwatcher's paradise. In the summer we see abundant herons, egrets, kingfishers, swans, grebes, and a myriad of ducks on a daily basis. During migration seasons the bird action is endless. Swimming- although the marshy coastline here is not ideal for swimming you can easily kayak out to a sandbar or jump in, or just down the road is a public county park with a sandy beach. Visit the Northeast Region! Au Gres has few amenities or restaurants, but 20 minutes north Tawas has ample public beaches, dozens of bars and restaurants, a Walmart and other provisions you may want. The Huron National forest outiside of Tawas also has many great hiking trails, ORV trails and more.

I have six children and hosted three foreign exchange students. I love kids, animals (especially horses) and nature. I love anything and everything about health and personal growth and well being. ABOUT THE FARM We have a working, organic farm with a lot of animals, however, we also do crops as well. This particular farm is 138 acres with 8 acres of woods. We have working dogs, sheep, cattle, horses, a couple goatsWe have some super great animals. Most of which are very friendly. You never know what will be available to see on the farm when you visit. We are expecting a foal (baby horse) this summer (2021) and are already planning for another foal next summer as well. We often have puppies as well and sometimes we have to bottle feed lambs. There's never a dull moment. Our farm is unique in the way of having a very positive VIBE to it. The energy is awesome! It's really a space of tranquility and healing if you allow yourself to go there. After hosting with air bnb for a little over a year now, we decided to give this a try as well. We love hosting people and having them come to the farm and enjoy our way of life. It also helps to have a supplemental income as having and running a small family farm isn't very sustainable. Overview

Between Saginaw Bay and the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge in Mid Michigan, this midwestern town makes for the perfect Great Lakes camping getaway. Saginaw Bay, an arm of Lake Huron, is ringed with beach parks for relaxing lakeside swimming, boating, fishing, and camping. And even better, the Saginaw Bay watershed is an important migratory bird habitat that draws birders during spring and fall migrations. South of Saginaw, the hardwood forests and wetlands of the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge feature miles of hiking routes, mountain biking trails, and paddling paths. Campers love the area’s fall foliage and its proximity to Detroit, only a 90-minute drive away.

The Saginaw River runs right through downtown Saginaw, providing urban boating and fishing access. Hikers and bikers can take the nearby Saginaw Valley Rail Trail 11 miles to St. Charles in summer (the multi-use trail is utilized by skiers in winter).

Bay City State Park

Just 25 minutes from Saginaw, Bay City State Park sits on a sandy beach of Saginaw Bay that’s perfect for swimming, boating, and fishing. Tent and RV camping sites feature picnic tables, fire rings, and restrooms, while observation towers let campers study the wildlife in the park’s Topico Marsh.

Lake Camping on the “Thumb”

About 80 minutes northeast from Saginaw are two state parks on Lake Huron at the tip of Michigan’s thumb. Sleeper State Park has lakeside camping with sunrise and sunset views, plus a dune forest you can explore. Port Crescent State Park, meanwhile, is a designated Dark Sky Preserve with excellent stargazing and a campground offering both cabins and geodesic domes.

Tawas Point State Park

An hour and a half north of Saginaw is Tawas Point State Park, a 183-acre lakeside getaway set on the sand spit that separates Tawas Bay from Lake Huron. The park links up to the Tawas Bay Multi-Use Trail for biking or hiking on the lakeshore, and campers have plenty of options—choose from tent sites, RV sites, and cabins.

With late sunsets and warm days, summer is the best time to visit Saginaw for a camping trip. The autumn fall foliage transformation is also a beautiful time to camp, while spring and fall are prime for spotting migrating birds.
