I become owner of this property in 2017. The cabins were built in the late 90's financed by the previous owner. The property was vacant for decades prior to that. In the 1950's, the property was a drive-in motel called the 'Harbert Motel'. We have an arial photo from this time period which showed a number of small bungalows for guests, each with its own carport. I love all the stories I hear from locals who have been around long enough to remember how things 'used to be'. Southwest Michigan has an interesting history and has been a 'destination' from city dwellers for close to 100 years. Also new this year is a pond, an above ground pool, a second Porta Pottie, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and a more extensive First Aide Kit, and finally a Keurig and more options at the ‘Refreshment / Charging Station’. 2Chicks And A Farm is a small working farm on 20 acres, owned and run by Julie and Theresa Graham. We are 13 minutes from South Haven and the lake. 30 minutes from the city of Kalamazoo. And just under an hour from Grand Rapids. About half of the 20 acres is wooded, which is where three of our camp sites, Hammock Haven are located. Each site has a fire ring & picnic table. Three camp sites are located in the pasture. One is at the bottom of the pasture (1) and quite open. It can accommodate larger groups with multiple tents. It can also take a larger RV. A more secluded site (5) is half open and half in light woods., and is located at the top of the pasture. The others are in the middle of the pasture, 2 for sun lovers and 3 for those who prefer more shade. For those who prefer more seclusion, we have cleared three sites in the woods. All sites have a fire ring, or metal fire pit, and picnic table. Some have fire wood boxes (we’re working on making a box for all sites). We have an outdoor propane shower that provides both hot and cold water. This is free. A coffee bar is on the back deck. Coffee is brewing around 7am. We also provide hot water, teas, hot chocolate and cider. Feeling a little peckish before breakfast, or after dinner? Help yourself to a snack. This is all free, though small donations are welcomed. Our goats, poultry, pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs and produce take up about an acre and a half. Then the rest is open space. You are welcome to collect eggs for breakfast and fresh produce from our gardens (additional fee). Use the BBQ or smoker. And even join in on farm chores if you are so inclined. Please try to plan to check-in by 9pm. Exceptions can be made. There are locally mandated quiet hours (10-7 Sun through Thur, and 11-7 Fri and Sat). Hanging out by a fire and chatting is fine.

A quick story: When I was a kid, one of my dad’s best friends’ parents let us use about 20 acres of their farm and woods, where we set up a little campground. We had a small camper, tents, a fire pit, and a track out in the woods where we rode dirt bikes, four-wheelers, and side-by-sides. Weekend Trip to Rocking Horse Camping Ranch

We had a wonderful stay. Nice to have a getaway like this so close to the city. We enjoyed the site- absolutely beautiful view of ponies and goats. Camper was worn and comfortable and very well stocked. There’s some highway noise but it becomes like white noise- I didn’t notice it really. The host was incredibly nice and helpful and communicative. We hope to return.

I don't know where to begin? The place was beautiful upon entry! Beautiful cats to play with everywhere! My son was in heaven :-) we made great friends with a black kitty named Olivia. She hung out with us while we were camping and even shared some of our breakfast eggs! The pathways were lit at night, the TP that we stayed in was and beautiful condition, clean, well stocked with cleaning supplies and a trash can if needed. We had a bundle of wood that was plentiful! The staff was extremely helpful getting me to my site and making sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed! There are vegetables for sale, as well as delicious salsa! The property is extremely well kept and beautiful to look at! Very serene. We had our own fire pit and picnic table also. The campsites were very private, which I really liked. I was very happy that I did not have to share a fire pit with other campers. This was a last-minute trip for my son's 11th birthday and well worth the drive from detroit! We will definitely be back with the rest of the family! I highly recommend two chicks and a farm!

We had such a wonderful stay here! Derek is a very helpful and responsive host. My daughter absolutely loved all the animals — cats, dogs, horses, and goats — which made the trip extra special. The location is perfect, close to the beach and just a short drive from Chicago, so it was both relaxing and convenient. We would definitely love to come back again.

Wow, what an absolutely exhilarating camping experience! As part of the Scooter and Boys in Scouting America program, I’ve had my fair share of camping trips, but this one was off the charts! 🌟 Imagine staying in a cozy tipi nestled in the woods, surrounded by a vibrant cast of friends—yes, I’m talking about farm animals! We had encounters with raccoons, cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, goats, pigs, and so much more. Each moment was filled with adventure and laughter! And let’s not forget the perks: coffee available 24/7, impeccably maintained toilets, and hot showers to rejuvenate after a day of fun. It’s truly a hidden gem that I can’t recommend enough! We’re definitely coming back for more amazing memories! 👍😎🦝🐶🐈🐔🐷🦆

We had a great time staying in Lucy the yurt. Julie met us when we got there and gave us a welcome basket with lots of stuff. The cats were super friendly and cuddly. Our kid enjoyed meeting and trying to pet all the animals.

We enjoyed staying by Derek's RV with our 3 kids. It is cozy, comfortable and romantic with the animals and nice nature. The highway is quite close, you can hear it, but otherwise everyting was great. Nice beaches, restaurants are close. Derek is very helpful and kind. I recommend it!

2 nights at Hostel SoHa

Great place! Nadia, the owner, lives onsite and is both friendly and helpful. We stayed in one of the safari tents, but the indoor sleeping pods looked really well done and comfy as well. It was a great option to have a tent all set up with beds and linens - the tent was comfortable and roomy for 2 people. Facilities are high quality and in great shape. Big, new kitchen. Lounge area with video game console. The game/activity center is an old church with ping pong and pool table where the pews used to be. Great sunken fire pit being built - functional and we sat by the communal fire both nights we were there, but it is going to get even prettier and nicer as they finish it. People were friendly but respectful. Great laundry facilities and really nice showers as well. Also right on the edge of town - easy bike ride or drive, and you could certainly walk it if you wanted to. Being so close to town does mean there is road noise all night, but not from a big highway, just the local road and I popped in some ear plugs and slept like a log. Besides the permanent tents, there is also a very large yard for personal tents and sounds like they are clearing more secluded sites further back in the woods. Highly recommend!

Amazing hosts and property. Everything was well taken care of and clean. The hosts are very thoughtful and my time with my son will be a treasured memory.We stopped for lodging on the way to Saugatak State Park. We enjoyed their add-on breakfast that was well worth the spend.

I loved this place sooo much. The location was perfect and the private beach that we were able to go to from the Host was AMAZING! I unfortunately had to come later and leave earlier but I already booked another stay cause I cannot stop thinking about it! This was absolutely needed after a rough week. Cannot wait to go back. Highly recommend.

The grounds are very thoughtfully laid out & each campsite is unique and speaks to all types of campers. The animals are well cared for & friendly. The owners' current and future plans to care for the community make me want to support them even more. Female owned businesses are better for the world and I cannot sing these praises loudly enough.

First time using Hicamp, so far it was a great and smooth experience. Julie and her wife were amazing hosts. So accommodating and hospitable. Camp site was clean, plenty of wood, tiki torches, and Lucy the yurt was perfect for our family of 4 plus 2 dogs. Coffee was delicious, we bought some fresh farm eggs. We were able to wash up after beach day at camp, recharge our phones and portable battery pack at camps charging area. Fill our water jugs. Walk the dogs around the farm! Overall amazing first experience! Thank you for hosting!
