Remote private tract in northern Michigan with Portage Creek to camp at, right up close. No neighbors, no other campers! 10 miles from Grayling so you can run into town for needed supplies with little time or effort. Bring your kayaks and swimsuit for a quick splash. The creek is mostly shallow with some deeper spots. There are downed trees so the kids can kayak without going too far away but they can go out of line of sight and hearing, so please be watchful. The last ½ mile road in can be very sandy in spots or sometimes flooded so you are encouraged to call or enquire prior to arrival, 4WD recommended for towing an RV. We recommend your first arrival during daylight hours so you can see the entrance of the property. The non-maintained county road, the last ½ mile in is typically not passable during winter and snow seasons except by snowshoe or snowmobile due to the snow level. Never leave children or pets unattended! Be aware of the chance encounter with an endangered massasauga rattler, it may be endangered but it is still poisonous and they have been seen on and around the property before. Ticks are on the rise, and the springtime can be very buggy, and mosquito-y with the surrounding swampy areas. There are bear, coyote, and an assortment of other creatures big and small. This is a wilderness area and so please be aware of wild animals. Never leave your small contained fire unattended at the firepit and watch for sparks, completely douse the fire before you leave as this is a fire-prone area. No fires outside the firepit for safety reasons and fire hazards. If you want firewood here in Grayling, there are a few places that sell it. There is down debris in our woods but as the summer goes by, it may be picked through. You can pull and circle through the open area with your RV, or you can tuck into the RV / camping spot. There is enough room for 5 or 6 cars but campers may crowd that a bit. If you are tent camping, you are welcome to set up elsewhere on the property. There are trails throughout the property and you may see the ‘No Trespassing’ signs all along the perimeter of the 23.7 acres. The toilet is now working again, but we ask that you not overtaxed it ;p . The small cabin is fairly stocked with pots and pans, good for campfire cooking. Picnic table and fire pit with cooking grate on site for your use. There are tons of nearby outdoor recreational opportunities and water bodies very close by, or you can spend your time on this private tract. The military board land and small arms range is just past the road to the west, you may hear small arms practice at times, the sound of freedom.

Exactly what we were looking for! The campsite was secluded, and the area is very well maintained. Cabins are available to rent on Airbnb which worked out great for my FIL who doesn’t have a camper. Our long weekend at Barney Lake Vista was everything we hoped for and more. The fall colors were absolutely stunning — miles and miles of golden and red trees surrounding the lake. The site itself was private, peaceful, and perfectly maintained. Even the toilet was spotless and just the right distance from camp. The sounds of nature were constant and comforting — birds chirping all day, a few gobbling turkeys, and at night, the distant howls of what we think was a pack of coyotes. My wife joked they were celebrating something. It was beautiful to listen to, far enough away to keep the night peaceful. The night sky was incredible — so many stars, it felt magical. Our two senior dachshunds loved it too, especially soaking up the sun in the crisp fall air. Adam and Sarah were wonderful hosts — friendly, helpful, and thoughtful. They even dropped off a bunch of dry wood after a rainy day without us asking. It made our nights by the fire perfect. Having grocery stores just 10 minutes away was super convenient, too. Overall, this spot is everything you want for a relaxing, scenic getaway — quiet, beautiful, and full of nature’s charm. We can’t wait to come back! 🌲🔥

This is a wonderful spot to camp! The back yard is spacious, with a hammock, wind chimes, fire pit, and table. Behind the back yard are some trails that go deep into the north woods. The host was very gracious, taking time to check in with me while she was travelling out of state. Also, the beach at Tawas Point just became one of my favorite beaches in Michigan, up there with Oval Beach in Saugatuck and the "secret spot" off Old Freesoil Road in the Manistee National Forest, between Ludington and Manistee, north of Big Sable Point. It is a fascinating little piece of land that sticks down into Tawas Bay.

We had an amazing romantic getaway at Adam and Sara’s Barney Lake Vista. The overlooking view showcased the stunning fall colors across the landscape, creating a breathtaking backdrop for our stay. In the morning, we were delighted to see a flock of turkeys running through the open field below, adding to the charm of the location. The directions were easy to follow and find, ensuring a hassle-free arrival. The outhouse was perfectly clean, and putting the truck in four-wheel drive made easy work getting up the approach. Miles and miles of local trails and hunting locations only minutes down the road or a short drive to the Saint Helen trail system without all the congestion of staying locally. Each site is different to meet different needs all are rustic one tent/small camper or pop up the other is setup to take a camper up to around 25 ft. Main campsite is still under construction and the shed is being converted into a cabin but you could bring your camper. There currently is a small solar system for electric and a rain water collection system with filter and an outdoor camp shower with hot water and over 500 gallons reservoir and outhouse in the works next. We had a storm possible tornado I wasn’t here but did major damage to many trees and knocked down several others I’m looking for people willing to trade a few hours of labor for free camping tasks will be assigned based on capabilities from moving and burning branches to running chainsaw and wood splitter and if knowledgeable in construction have stairs and deck/platforms and other related projects associated with building a campground.

Remote private tract in northern Michigan with Portage Creek to camp at, right up close. No neighbors, no other campers! 10 miles from Grayling so you can run into town for needed supplies with little time or effort. Bring your kayaks and swimsuit for a quick splash. The creek is mostly shallow with some deeper spots. There are downed trees so the kids can kayak without going too far away but they can go out of line of sight and hearing, so please be watchful. The last ½ mile road in can be very sandy in spots or sometimes flooded so you are encouraged to call or enquire prior to arrival, 4WD recommended for towing an RV. We recommend your first arrival during daylight hours so you can see the entrance of the property. The non-maintained county road, the last ½ mile in is typically not passable during winter and snow seasons except by snowshoe or snowmobile due to the snow level. Never leave children or pets unattended! Be aware of the chance encounter with an endangered massasauga rattler, it may be endangered but it is still poisonous and they have been seen on and around the property before. Ticks are on the rise, and the springtime can be very buggy, and mosquito-y with the surrounding swampy areas. There are bear, coyote, and an assortment of other creatures big and small. This is a wilderness area and so please be aware of wild animals. Never leave your small contained fire unattended at the firepit and watch for sparks, completely douse the fire before you leave as this is a fire-prone area. No fires outside the firepit for safety reasons and fire hazards. If you want firewood here in Grayling, there are a few places that sell it. There is down debris in our woods but as the summer goes by, it may be picked through. You can pull and circle through the open area with your RV, or you can tuck into the RV / camping spot. There is enough room for 5 or 6 cars but campers may crowd that a bit. If you are tent camping, you are welcome to set up elsewhere on the property. There are trails throughout the property and you may see the ‘No Trespassing’ signs all along the perimeter of the 23.7 acres. The toilet is now working again, but we ask that you not overtaxed it ;p . The small cabin is fairly stocked with pots and pans, good for campfire cooking. Picnic table and fire pit with cooking grate on site for your use. There are tons of nearby outdoor recreational opportunities and water bodies very close by, or you can spend your time on this private tract. The military board land and small arms range is just past the road to the west, you may hear small arms practice at times, the sound of freedom.
