The SOL Homestead is a small but growing homestead with a focus on community. We raise chickens, ducks, pigs and cattle on pasture. The property is rolling acres with hardwood, pine, brush and open land with several miles of mowed trails. The terrain makes is very private and secluded, not a building or road (other than the driveway) is visible from the campsite. Wildlife abounds with regular sitings of deer, turkey, bald eagles, redtail hawks, grouse, pheasant, songbirds, and the list keeps going. The stars explode overhead when the sun drops behind the hills. The farm is over the hill and through the woods, you might occasionally hear a rooster crow, but otherwise you won't even know we are there. Located a short 20-25 minutes south of Traverse City, all the area attractions including Old Mission Peninsula, Leelanau Peninsula, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Manistee River, wineries, fishing, boating and countless other attractions. The Kingsley Farm Market on Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 7:00pm is a fun local event featuring great local farmers and often live music. We are currently offering one basic/rustic campsite, on a large flat(ish) site with picnic table and fire ring. There will be a Porta John for a toilet (May-October) and no access to water or electric at this time. There is plenty of room for any type of camper or several tents. If there is enough interest, we plan to add several more campsites and perhaps a glamping site, water, electric, and an outdoor shower in the future. Included with each stay is a rack of seasoned firewood and one dozen farm fresh eggs. Other farm products may be available upon request, you never know what might be ready in the garden!

Perhaps the best place I've stayed at on hip camp. Definitely top 5. Robb and Jeanne have a really great place. The photos are accurate. The pine forest was great. At night you can hear the wind traveling from one side to the other. I love the clean flat carpet of pine needles. In the morning we drove about 5 minutes to lake Michigan Beach which was gorgeous. No bugs at all this time of year. I liked the community fireplace because it was all setup and quick to get a fire going. There is a volleyball court in the grass too.

Well, we camped here this summer and absolutely adored it! And… We vowed to return for fall camping! Well, one of us got to, I had to work. But once again, my husband had a wonderful time in one of the most beautiful settings we’ve ever been to. Being that secluded camping in Michigan is absolutely wonderful. My granddaughter went with us this summer and she cannot wait to go back next year. She was not happy grandpa went without her! A good center point for short drives for biking, kayaking, or just going to town! And the drive to get anywhere is very pretty. See you next summer!

Betty and her husband were very friendly. He met us on arrival to show us to our site and even lent us his very bright flashlight since we were setting up in the dark. Then chatted with us the next night around the camp fire. They have an adorable dog that runs around the property mostly keeping to herself but will gladly accept pets and belly rubs. One thing to note is that 1-3 tent sites are right next to each other and the communal fire pit is nice but if there is anyone else in those sites be prepared to make friends.

I felt very welcomed and had fun helping around the garden. Loved seeing the ducks. We stayed right in the backyard, even though the woods were a great option too! Fun time, would come again.

Super secluded with amazing night sky’s. The cows came and visited when we got there and said goodbye as we left. Not another person in site that allowed full peacefulness and relaxation, it really let us reset.

The landscape is absolutely incredible. If you are looking for beauty, peace and solace, SOL is the spot. My wife and I had such a great time just sitting and enjoying the surroundings, great walks and just sitting and feeling the fresh air; warm days and cool nights. We will be back.

We had plenty of space and tree cover to park and pitch a tent!

Weekend Trip to CK Ranch Camp

Had a long weekend and some new gear to try out, so we decided to look to the north for a campsite. Everything was booked, not to mention packed full of people. Then my brother told me about Hipcamp, and everything changed.. We found Clinton's Ranch site and it checked all the boxes: close to where my parents were staying, dog friendly, and isolated (one campsite only). Clinton was super cool and easy to deal with. He pretty much told us we could do whatever we wanted there and walked me back to check out the site, a nice mowed area tucked back in the woods. We spent 2 nights in perfect weather, not far from modern conveniences, which is good because there are no toilets on site (not even an issue at the price per night). Just bring a bucket toilet or something similar and pack in all of your water and you are set. It was paradise for 2 days. I would DEFinitely recommend this site and I will definitely be back someday.

Weekend Trip to Llama Meadows Eco Farm BaseCamp

Great Hipcamp with lovely hosts. Picturesque farm that's close to trails, water activities, restaurants, breweries, and a coffee shop. Betty provided great recommendations in the area, and brought us fresh pears picked from their orchard. We loved the communal firepit!
