Learn more about this land: Private 1.5 acre field off of Staples Point Road, 3 miles from downtown Freeport, 1 mile to Winslow Park. Field is surrounded mostly by forrest, only non-drinking water provided from the garden hose at the entrance to the field. Water is shut off late October through the winter but the site is available. Whatever you bring in, you take out; garbage, human waste, etc. There is a camp fire with benches, plenty of fire wood and a luggable loo if needed.

It started years ago my sister and I stayed in a yurt at a campground in Oregon. That was it. I was hooked so I got one. There is something magical about staying in a round structure in the trees. My love of nature and comfort drove me to create this special place to be able to share it with others. My TreeYurt is a platform built high in the trees so it essentially like a treehouse but with a yurt instead. It is located in the back part of my property surrounded by woods. In the spring there is a small stream running nearby. The land is somewhat sloped yet comfortable. There are apple orchards nearby and many hiking trails a short distance away as well as Portland a mere 15 minutes. The kitchenette has a small fridge a toaster oven a coffee maker a cook top with two burners pots pans utensils plates and bowls and kitchen towels as well a propane grill outside. There is a wood stove for heating in the winter as well as a monitor heater that makes it very cozy for chilly nights. The yurt is insulated so it is a great year round glamping (glorified camping) adventure. I provide fire some wood for the wood stove inside but the camp fire wood for the outdoor fire pit is $5 per bundle. The outhouse has a dry flush toilet and instructions at located in the yurt and out house. There is seasonal running water (May through October) for the outdoor sink which is available for use for dishwashing and a bit of cleaning up. Also an outdoor shower is available for use May through October and biodegradable soaps and shampoo are provided. I provide gallons of drinking water and dishwashing water for the colder months inside the yurt with dish tubs sponges and soap.

Megquier place as they used to call it. Built in 1775, Megquier farm was the first homestead in the town of New Gloucester. The house here is supposedly the oldest in New Gloucester. Situated on originally 60 now 30 acres of woodland, with trails of all sorts that weave through the property which is surrounded by mostly farmland and wooded terrain. The Megquier family who built the house had relations with local indigenous people trading cider from their orchard. They also were known to be rebellious towards English rule at the time and were involved in the local militia leading to the revolutionary war against English rule. Proof of which lies in some historic photos of family members dressed in militia uniform right in front of my house way back when. Furthermore, construction of the house itself violated the kings rule that no tree over two feet in diameter marked by the kings agents was to be harvested. However, the roof sheathing in the house are two feet wide at least. Interesting to review the history of mast landing in Freeport Maine, just a few miles away. More recent undocumented history of this property is just as interesting. I’m told that during the Vietnam war period, many people resided here in commune to resist the draft for that illegal war. They camped along what was once a pond here on a sunny hillside with towering Hemlock trees. Proof of which lies just under the ground such as old beer bottle and cans from that time as well as the rusted front end of an old International Harvester bus similar the one Ken Keasey and the merry pranksters drove around the US with. Pretty cool. I’m told that this place has a cool vibe to it, in the house and around the property. Hopefully I’m keeping that intact. After 7 years here I’ve created a network of trails for biking, skiing and exploring. I’ve carved out a nice high and dry hilltop camp with two 12’x12’ platforms and a composting outhouse. It’s situated on the most isolated area of the property. It’s quiet, private and gets great afternoon/evening light. Totally chill place to isolate. And mountain bike. There are approximately 7 kilometers of private bike trails to explore and more always being created. Very close to other local biking trial networks via some road sections or a quick shuttle to other trailheads. Also there’s a decent little sandy swimming hole a mile down the road. This camp is brand new this summer. I’m hoping to attract people who love mountain biking.Learn more about this land:Winter camping available. Private isolated campsite on 30 acres. Great bike trails. Wooded dry hilltop campsite with privacy and seclusion. I’ve constructed two 12’x12’ platforms at the top of the hill along with a custom built composting outhouse and huge stone fire pit. Bike down your choice of trails into my network right from the site. Park your vehicle in the field near the trailhead and hike in to the camp or bring your four wheel drive vehicle right to the site. Utility cart available. I will provide all the wood you need for a campfire. As well as a water source located at the field. Approximately 7 kilometers of trail and counting. Bring your dog so long as it is behaved. You’ll be able to bike directly from here all the way to Bradbury Mountain state park and back (about 3-4 hrs) or easily drive to multiple trail networks. Pineland Farms located 1 mile away. 15 minutes to Bradbury Mountain state park. 20 minutes to Freeport Maine and LL Bean. 30 minute drive to downtown Portland. 10 minute drive to the nearest store. You’ll be all by yourself out there but close enough to hear the road nearby. You may see people riding a bike down on the main trail but you’ll be all set on top of the camp hill. Just off Route 125, our property offers a space to sleep and cook—no amenities, just the beauty of the outdoors and a place to poop. ***Winter is coming, and we will not be plowing the road to the site, we will allow instant bookings till the driveway is impassable, then we will cancel*** The land borders a lush greenway and a rare wetland ecosystem called a fen. Expect visits from chipmunks, wild turkeys, raccoons, possums, porcupines, and possibly a sharp-shinned hawk overhead or a deer wandering through. We had enjoyed having him and his yurt on our land so when he left, It left a virtual and metaphorical hole. Access to your private waterfront is a short stroll through our woods. The boat launch is just a two or three minute walk down the road from your site. Our new dock is available to dock your boat during the day.. Explore the historic oceanfront City of Portland, or the local Towns of Windham, Naples, or Bridgton. Portland is a 35 minute drive from The Queen's Property. Within the park, you will enjoy protected forests, bike paths, and Sebago Lake beaches. Sebago Lake is a deep glacial lake, and by itself is 44 square miles of clear waters that abut Sebago Lake State Park. The park and the lake host some of Maine's’ best sandy beaches, water sports, fishing, boating, boat rentals, camping, picnic areas, boat launches, extensive woodlands, a wide array of critters, hiking trails, and walking trails. Sebago Park hosts various play areas for children with slides and swings. The summer sun is warm and the autumn colors are always abundant and beautiful. One day my children. 3 large tent sites and two camper sites. Future cabin and seasonal RV sites. A brook runs through the property but dries up after June. There is a small pond with rock stairs. Deer and turkey are frequently seen. Peace and serenity. This property does not offer complete seclusion. You will see other campers if all 3 sites are occupied. There is spacious distance. What this location offers is that it is centrally located to mountains, oceans, lakes,concert venues, restaurants, nightlife, shopping and antiquing. Traveling to NH and Massachusetts is a day trip. A few hours and your in central Maine. Cross the border into Canada. So much to explore or just relax. Stay a few nights or stay the season. 2023 is off to a great camping season. Already meeting new campers. Hopefully I'll see some familiar faces from 2022. A few upgrades. There is an outside water faucet, an outlet and an outside shower...hot and a privacy fence. There is a bathroom/shed that contains a toilet. Goats are coming. Yes goats. Not until fall though. The frog pond population continues to grow. A neighboring town is finding 3 legged frogs in their ponds. Apparently caused by a parasite. Let me know if you find any. 2024 was another great season. New faces that I hope to see again. The summer weather was great for camping. A large Bell Tent and a small portable camper was purchased for those who are seeking more of a glamping experience. WELCOME BACK for 2026... 2025 had some complications unfortunately. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to invite anyone to my property. Consider yourself invited for the 2026 season. THOMAS POND Thomas Pond is a beautiful 533-acre freshwater with miles of shoreline. Thomas Pond’s maximum depth is 64 feet, and the mean depth is 22 feet. Our guests are welcome to kayak, canoe, swim, fish, and paddle board from the shores of The Queen’s Property, or one of 5 Right of Ways on Watkins Shores Road owned by our Association. Access to your private waterfront is a short stroll through our woods. As our guest staying at The Queen's Property, you will also have free access to the Watkins Shores Road Association's boat launch. The boat launch is just a two or three minute walk down the road from your site. Our new dock is available to dock your boat during the day.. However, there is a small fee to dock your boat overnight (see "Extras") at our site. Just make sure you check for Milfoil or any other invasive plants before launching. LOCAL ATTRACTIONS NEAR CAMP Within 5 minutes of camp, you will find all the essentials, including food items, ice, firewood, goodies, gas, and RV supplies. In fact, you can even order your groceries online for pickup, (free at Hannaford Brothers Grocery and Walmart) either on your way to your campsite or when you need to resupply your camp (we would be happy to give you the details). During your stay, you may also want to take a trip off-site to explore all that the Lakes Region offers. Explore the historic oceanfront City of Portland, or the local Towns of Windham, Naples, or Bridgton. Portland is a 35 minute drive from The Queen's Property. The coastline around Portland is rugged and attractive with world-famous lighthouses dotted along its shorelines. Numerous locally owned shops and nationally recognized restaurants can be found tucked into its many harbors and shorelines. Closer to camp, enjoy strolling through the Town of Naples. Naples sits smack-dab in the middle of the Sebago Lakes Region. Sebago Lake abuts its western border and Long Lake abuts its eastern border. A short 8-minute drive from your site, Naples spoils its visitors with boat rentals, waterfront shops, and awesome restaurants. Further north is the Town of Bridgton. Bridgton is a 20-minute drive from your campsite. It offers its visitors a quaint downtown filled with local retailers, pubs, and restaurants. Enjoy the beaches of Bridgton’s Crystal Lake which sits on the edge of its downtown borders. The towns of Raymond and Windham also offer our visitors numerous restaurants, grocery stores, hardware stores, and gas stations. Once again, all within a short drive from your campsite (3-4 minutes). NEARBY STATE PARKS AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES If your idea of exploring is centered around outdoor activities, then Sebago Lake State Park is a 1,342-acre park that abuts the shores of Sebago Lake. Within the park, you will enjoy protected forests, bike paths, and Sebago Lake beaches. Sebago Lake is a deep glacial lake, and by itself is 44 square miles of clear waters that abut Sebago Lake State Park. The park and the lake host some of Maine's’ best sandy beaches, water sports, fishing, boating, boat rentals, camping, picnic areas, boat launches, extensive woodlands, a wide array of critters, hiking trails, and walking trails. Sebago Park hosts various play areas for children with slides and swings. The summer sun is warm and the autumn colors are always abundant and beautiful. The entrance and parking lot are wheelchair accessible. If you are an avid hiker, The Queen’s Property is a short drive to numerous mountain ranges, forests, and peaks, all of which contain hundreds of miles of ATV and hiking trails. There are over 25 hiking trails within 10 miles of The Queen's Property and over 115 trails within 20 miles. Oh, and if you love winter sports you will love the Lakes Region.

Family owned property obtained through the barter system. You shingle my barn and I'll give you that property. My Pappy's land. 11 acres. Recently cleared for its timber. With some landscaping it became clear that beautiful campsites were forming. My father is 78 years old. The last thing he ever thought he would be doing with his retirement is jumping back on his excavator. Can't keep a good man down. Now here we are. Father and daughter. One day my children. 3 large tent sites and two camper sites. Future cabin and seasonal RV sites. A brook runs through the property but dries up after June. There is a small pond with rock stairs. Deer and turkey are frequently seen. Peace and serenity. This property does not offer complete seclusion. You will see other campers if all 3 sites are occupied. There is spacious distance. What this location offers is that it is centrally located to mountains, oceans, lakes,concert venues, restaurants, nightlife, shopping and antiquing. Traveling to NH and Massachusetts is a day trip. A few hours and your in central Maine. Cross the border into Canada. So much to explore or just relax. Stay a few nights or stay the season. 2023 is off to a great camping season. Already meeting new campers. Hopefully I'll see some familiar faces from 2022. A few upgrades. There is an outside water faucet, an outlet and an outside shower...hot and a privacy fence. There is a bathroom/shed that contains a toilet. Goats are coming. Yes goats. Not until fall though. The frog pond population continues to grow. A neighboring town is finding 3 legged frogs in their ponds. Apparently caused by a parasite. Let me know if you find any. 2024 was another great season. New faces that I hope to see again. The summer weather was great for camping. A large Bell Tent and a small portable camper was purchased for those who are seeking more of a glamping experience. WELCOME BACK for 2026... 2025 had some complications unfortunately. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to invite anyone to my property. Consider yourself invited for the 2026 season. Peary’s Community Garden is a private garden area on our land with several small garden plots. Amenities include webber charcoal grill, Solo fire pit, with limited firewood, picnic tables, outhouse, non potable water, wide gravel access road, field and forest walking trails. Pets on leash ok. Short walk to vegetable and flower farm stand at entrance to Sadie Lane. Single site is near end of 500’ Sadie Lane, a private gravel road. 1/4 mile from I-295 exit. Hipcamp proceeds go to support the community garden and pay for compost, fencing, fertilizer, seeds, water system and related garden needs. Site is suitable for parking a small camper or van. One gravel site, suitable for tenting next to the existing Van or RV parking site. I will only accept one camping site per night. Several acres of trails through old fields and woods adjoin the site. Deer, turkeys and ticks are plentiful. Sadie Lane is a very wide gravel road but there is no dedicated turn a round at end.

Watersrock Woods Campsites are private tent and remote camping locations in the beautiful Southern Maine forest. One site is a remote tent site with spots for multiple tents. It has a picnic table and fire pit. The other site is a larger space with a little more privacy and spaces for multiple tents. It has a propane barbecue grill, picnic table, fire pit, hammock, outdoor patio set with umbrella with seating for 6. There are lots of pine trees and both sites are partially surrounded with large 6' natural berms creating additional privacy. The Property is adjacent to a small brook which is great for fishing and relaxing. Please, NO pets! Thank you for reading this entire description for rules and directions on how to get to Hidden Brook. Hidden Brook is located on a small family-owned vegetable farm five minutes outside the village of Cornish, Maine. Three generations of farmers live here presently, but our family has been working this land since the mid 1700’s.  Cornish is a pretty special place to live and visit because we are about 50 minutes drive from both the city of Portland on the coast and the White Mountains to the west. There are tons of local hikes here in the foothills, two big rivers to float or paddle, dozens of swim spots, good fishing, and a lively little village with at least 7 antiques shops, local art, and some pretty darn good restaurants. Our neighborhood even hosts some of the best musicians in the world each July at The Ossippee Valley Music Festival. Yeah, we got it all going on! Come play with us or just chill at Hidden Brook. So far, we have one spot open for “glamping”, The Bus, but we will add the Wagon this fall. The Bus, an engineless 1973 Bluebird School bus is pretty pimped out. Though off the grid, cell reception is pretty good and rechargable lighting is provided. Our outdoor kitchen, on a spacious deck ( fenced in for kids ) includes a heavy duty propane stove, Yeti cooler and pots and pans. Indoors, there’s a slop-bucket sink for tooth-brushing (dishes are to be washed out on the deck ), a small woodstove to take off the chill come fall and a nice big fire pit outside. Wood is provided. Buses can get hot in summer, so we put ours in a shady little grove of ancient oaks amongst the remains of the farm’s original stonework and installed screens the full length of the bus. We built a compost-style outhouse and a beautiful outdoor shower we call “The Cold Drizzler” down in the old homestead cellar hole. Kind of a secret garden bathroom : ) Inside is a full-sized bed for one or two people and two cot-sized “75 long bunks, sleeping a total of four humans. Quality mattresses, sheets and blankets with a change of sheets and tons of pillows ought to provide a comfortable night’s sleep. Four towels and face cloths provided. Coffee and “pour-overs” on site as well as silverware, bowls and plates. All you really need is ice for the cooler and your food - or just go out to eat. Other things to note: Absolutely no smoking inside All shoes off before entering Quiet hours from 9:30 pm to 6:30 am ( we live in a small community and wish to respect our neighbors ) This is not a party camp, but a place to relax and listen to the birds. Please enjoy your music quietly. This is a working farm, but we will be as sensitive as possible when it comes to any loud machinery use like irrigation pumps and tractors while guests are around. Our dogs may visit, but are laid back once they have anounced your arrival. Directions to Hidden Brook and the Bus: You will be given directions to an address once you book but please make sure that you follow the signage to the bus carefully, otherwise you’ll end up at the wrong property. Drive until you see two giant, eyeballs attached to a telephone pole, and the bus will be immediately after that on your right. Thank you so much.

It was an enjoyable stay. The host was very responsive and the location is easy to find, and the privy is clean. The camp site itself is centerally located on a lot between neighbouring houses that are in earshot but it's tucked back behind the barn and has some trees and shrubs that offer it a secluded feel. It was perfect for my needs and It is just 27 minutes away from the Casco Bay YMCA by car if you need to work out and get a hot shower.

I always love staying at this HipCamp - am a repeat camper here. It is actually my favorite Hipcamp. Sarah takes a great deal of care to make it nice, with a container of fresh water, a compost toilet, wood for the fire left in various sizes ranging from kindling to bigger logs. It is private and peaceful, and my dogs and I enjoy it immensely.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Brook At Merrifield Farm

My teenage daughter asked if I’d bring her and her friend camping or glamping for a night. I knew I didn’t want to set up a tent, and I needed a place that allowed a one night rental. I found Andrews’ Purple Bus, and messaged her asking if she’d be okay letting us rent it the very next night (nothing like spur of the moment). She responded quickly, and was all in, said she just needed to rake some leaves. The property is immaculately kept amidst a woods setting. She had warmed the bus already by starting a fire in the wood stove. The place is well stocked with any incidentals one might forget, and the space is all used perfectly to fit 3 beds, a table, a kitchen area, and a wood stove. The bus abutts a deck that has a well stocked outdoor kitchen that is also very well stocked with the necessary cooking utensils and such. The wood stove keeps the bus warm at night. The lighting made for great ambiance while we played some board games, and turn off with a click of a remote leaving a perfect dark interior (you know, the kind of pure darkness you get without electronics, and street lights, and other technological nuisances!) which make for a deep sleep, as the wood crackles in the stove. Simple and easy in all the best ways. Thank you for welcoming us on such short notice.
