I stayed in the cabin and I will absolutely return! Clean, cozy, and perfect for a weekend away. Jennifer was quick to respond and created a welcoming home for my visit. Close location to so many trails and activities. Perfect for one, a couple, or a family! 10/10 and 5 stars!

Weekend Trip to Sonny Hills

Jennifer’s cabin is a perfect getaway. It has every amenity you could want! We got some surprise snow during our stay so the fireplace was perfect for our stay along with some games and movies. I can’t wait to come back in the spring and fall to get some use out of the hot tub, grill, and fire pit.

Had a great time tent camping! We ordered a bundle of firewood for the night and Bill brought it to our firepit. And even helped light it since everything was wet. The hot shower and bathroom was great! We did have trouble finding the location, the app takes you to the wrong place. Make sure you read the directions and go on the right road.. would definitely come back

What a lovely property! If it wasn’t so cold when we were there this past week before Christmas, we would have ventured further. We did enjoy watching the ducks and chickens though! Hot shower and restrooms were a luxury I didn’t expect. Definitely book with Place of Refuge!

We had an incredible stay at Sonny Hills-Cabin near Shawnee Forest! The cabin itself was very cozy, very comfortable, and very well equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The location couldn’t have been better, surrounded by gorgeous nature with hiking and sightseeing opportunities on site and even more in the park just a short drive away. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and had everything we needed. Their kindness and attention to detail truly made this trip extra special. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer and we’re already looking forward to returning as soon as we can. Highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat near Shawnee Forest! 🌲✨

Weekend Trip to Sonny Hills

My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend getaway at Jennifer's cabin. The lovely water with a tree-covered hill to the east was beautiful each day. It was great to have wood provided for the fire pit, the kitchen had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable, and so were the couches. It was a great place to get away from our busy lives for a weekend. We visited Garden of the Gods and Dixon Spring this time but we hope to come back to explore their wooded property. And the see the doggies :) I appreciated getting myself away from the internet, although we did have good enough cell signal to be able to access the web when needed. I enjoy tent camping but did not have the energy or time for it right now and this was the perfect middle ground between tent camping and being home. I plan to recommend this cabin to my friends too and hope that we can even visit it together the next chance we can get away.

We loved this place. It had everything you could possibly need. We appreciated the fenced-in yard for our dogs, peaceful surroundings, kitchen with everything we needed for cooking, and the hot tub. Games, movies, you name it. We’ll be back!

You're welcome to fish in the pond that has plenty of shade and sun, or sit around the bonfire site where we have benches provided and roast marshmallows. With two easy-access large tree houses, bench swings and a big picnic shelter, there's lots of room to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. You might encounter wildlife like: deer, mink, or geese, but you're sure to see our chickens and ducks running around and hear our rooster crow in the morning. Depending on the time and season, we offer several hands on experiences with berry picking, chicken tending, food processing, gardening, and general light land maintenance like checking the trails for down limbs and trash. With gorgeous views and the convenience of being just 10 minutes from University Southern Indiana or 15 minutes from restaurants and stores, we welcome you to camp with us. Currently we are restoring our property after the ice storms in January that broke many trees in two, and uprooted trees at the root balls. Due to a very wet Winter, the ground was unstable. The cabin and campsites are unaffected. Please contact us with any questions or concerns. 70 secluded acres adjoining the Shawnee National Forest area with some hiking opportunities, woods and water activities. Close to Garden of the Gods (10 min), RimRock, Pounds Hollow, Belle Smith Springs, Lusk Creek and other trails. We are in the middle of the Shawnee surrounded by trees, our own lake, you can hike around and walk the land in solitude, yet we are only 25 minutes to Harrisburg. The closest grocery/merchandise store is only 5 minutes away. Cabin-2BR -1 Q, 1 K/1BA sleeps 4- possible 5, Completely modernized, with Heating/ac, full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and refrigerator, coffee pot, grill, laundry, NO INTERNET. Fully equipped Kitchen with all cooking utensils, crock pot, toasters, dual flex brew coffeemaker, plates, silverware, as well as coffee, creamer, sugar, cooking oil, aluminum foil, and condiments. Large great room, with native sandstone fireplace, that has been converted to gas for easy lighting. Back deck has beautiful views of the lake and hills. Enjoy the large front porch that adjoins the back deck and wraps around 3/4 of the cabin. Secluded, private, Fire pit. Free firewood. $115.00 per night for two people, Discount for weekday stay. 2 night minimum. Tent and RV camping sites available. RV pads for self-contained campers. One Electric space available. Water available from spigot and hose. No sewer. Porta-Potty on premises. No showers. No Internet. It is suggested that campers arrive at or before sunset.
