Enjoyed taste of farm life
We enjoyed exchanging the sights and sounds of city life for the very different sights and sounds of this charming, rustic, small farm: the crowing of roosters, the cackling of hens, the gentle snorting of the horse. I heard a whippoorwill's unique bird-call which I haven't heard for many years. We enjoyed sitting around the scenic pond and exploring little trails in wooded areas on the property. Mustang was responsive, helpful and friendly in our exchanges of messages before and during our stay. We saw Mustang doing some farm tasks, but we mostly felt like we had the place to ourselves. The gravel road approaching from the east was well-maintained and not dusty for us. Alternatively you can take the paved road from the south with only a few feet of the gravel road from it to the driveway (I don't know about approaches from other directions).

As others have said, Mustang is a great host because she is kind and accommodating.
There was a freshly mowed path to our site and The campsite had a fire pit, easy access to kindling and was flat. There was plenty of space for kids to run around and the animals were friendly. And a nice space to see the starry sky.
Our site was close to the neighbors house, but because we were the only guests at the farm it didn’t feel crowded. The farm was in a good location for exploring Shawnee National Forrest/ garden of the gods.
We are already planning our next visit to Garden of the Gods and Deaf Barefoot Melange Farm

Serene location
Serene location, nice shower, and an entertaining menagerie of cats, roosters, chickens, and a duck. We cooked up some of Mustang's fresh eggs for breakfast, delicious! Convenient for riders on the Tunnel Hill State Trail

Beautiful secluded & full of whimsy
What’s not to love. Tiny kitties sat around the fire with us, we kayaked in the lake and we laughed endlessly at a duck who thought they were a chicken. Mustang made us feel safe and welcome. The view of the stars was breathtaking and the proximity to Garden of the Gods and Rim Rock was very convenient. We felt much safer camping here than in the crowded campsite at the park. We are so grateful for our time here.

Tranquil setting
Mustang was extremely helpful, place was easy to find. Have access to bathroom and showers in her place. Which was very kind of her. The free firewood was clutch so thanks again for that! First time using hipcamp and couldn’t be more pleased. Definitely the only way to camp in the future! Area was close to hiking and nature type activities.

Barefoot Melange Farm
We really enjoyed our stay at Barefoot Melange Farm. Our camping experience exceeded our expectations. Our plan was to have a home base from which to explore the Shawnee National Forest. The campsite was not too far from the trails we wanted to visit (which were amazing!), but our stay on the farm was just as enjoyable. Mustang was highly responsive and answered all of our questions quickly. The campsite we stayed at was private and lovely. We loved having kitties greet us every day and seeing all of the chickens roaming around. We had access to a pool, kayaks, and hammocks on the property. We didn’t have time to take advantage of all of these amenities (because we were out exploring), but had a nice dip in the pool to cool off one night. We hope to use the kayaks on our next visit. We appreciated the time and care that Mustang took to give us a great experience.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was very peaceful and the animals are cute! We did bring our own grill which was helpful because there wasnt a fire pit. I do wish i would have brought a table because there wasnt one available. My first time using hipcamp so i wasnt sure what to expect. Was happy with experience and will try again! Thanks Mustang!

Sweet farm stay
The farm was lovely! Sadly we didn’t get a chance to meet Mustang, but she was so helpful in all our communications. It was the perfect place to stop on our cross-country trip.

Mustang is a great host who is accommodating and friendly. My group and I were given access to the pool and shower which we were especially grateful for due to the hot weather. The chickens on the property also laid eggs, which we were lucky recipients of - super good, you could tell they eat well by the rich yolks! 12/10 would recommend <3

Deaf Barefoot Melange Farm was fabulous. Our family loved staying there. All of the animals provided a much-needed distraction for our active 2.5-year-old. Mustang was an incredible host, and we loved getting to know more about her farm and her life there.
It is a close drive to Shawnee National Forest, which we had the chance to explore during our extended weekend stay there.
The place itself was just as described, serene, beautiful and full of wildlife. Enough shady spots for your tent set up, so if you're on the fence about booking - don't be. You won't regret it. What can be better than laying in a hammock and watching the stars at night? It was a great escape from city life and just what we needed!

What a wonderful place to spend the weekend! Especially if you have kids. There are lovely kitties around the farm (we even saw some tiny newborn kitties), ducks chasing chickens around, a friendly dog. Plenty of activities, big trampoline, play in the sand or rocks, two kayaks and a pond (there are actually two ponds on the property), some interesting labyrinths in the foresty areas around the farm to explore. Abundance of firewood. Access to the bathroom and shower in the house. This would be perfect if you want a lonesome quite time as well. There’s a hamack to relax, a bench by the pond to read a book. Light pollution in the country side is minimal, so we spent two nights stargazing. Best part is - Shawnee National Forest is 30 min away, but that’s for a different review, it is also absolutely fabulous!

Such a great spot with SOOO many great spots (both shady or sunny) to set up camp and enjoy your time here.
The host was so sweet and welcoming with some great amenities available to you to enjoy. Take a kayak to the pond or lounge around on the hammock. You'll find a few ducks, chickens, and house cats roaming around the house. You have so much privacy here with quite a few different trees to identify, blackberries to pick, and campfires to build.
You will not be disappointed in picking this site to camp at!
