Welcome to Red Gate Farm, LLC, a farm with a vision! We previously ran a very successful Hipcamp site at our previous property, but completely relocated and are starting fresh! We purchased 50 acres of GORGEOUS timbered property, with rolling forested hills, several creeks, trees towering over 100 feet tall, and abundant wildlife. It's absolutely perfect for Hipcamp! In addition to our working farm including dairy goats, free-range hens, and forest-raised heritage hogs, depending on when you come, you may also be able to observe some of the wild horses that come here for gentling, or even observe our gorgeous Gypsy Vanner at work on the farm! Better yet, for an additional fee, you can take advantage of one or more hands-on opportunities we offer! Building a new farm (and Hipcamp program) from scratch takes time--years even, but we decided now is as a good a time as any to share our beautiful timber with Hipcampers looking for some peace and privacy. Thus, we are kicking off our Grand Opening of the new sites. We are excited to offer a steeply discounted rate for 2023, with the understanding that our new Hipcamp sites are still being developed. While the site itself will be groomed and set up as listed, the surrounding grass won't be perfectly green yet, there will still be a lot of dead-wood and natural debris around the sites, and trails are a bit rough and uneven. If you can overlook the "rustic" aspects though, and enjoy the beauty of the peace and quiet of just enjoying nature, as it has sat unmanaged for roughly 50 years around the sites, then you are likely to love every moment! If you desire more adventure than just hanging around and enjoying nature, be sure to check out the additional experiences we offer here on the farm, as well as the entire surrounding area. Southern IL is made up of the Shawnee National Forest and multiple state parks and recreational areas. You can find a wide variety of activities to keep you busy! Even the local towns have much to offer, whether you enjoy fine dining, casual restaurants, antique shopping, or a nice theater production.

Cedar Ridge Glamping Site
Favorite Hipcamp Experience to Date
This was our favorite Hipcamp experience to date! My husband, two young kids, & I had so much fun staying at the Cedar Ridge glamping site. The compost toilet, space heater (we rented from Sean and Danielle), sitting area, picnic table, etc. made for a perfect level of comfort to have young kids. There’s a small hike in, but we just loaded up our heavy duty wagon and brought everything in that way. We set up an additional cot, and found some trees perfect for hanging our hammocks and we felt right at home. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. We also did the nearby Giant City Nature Trail (about 1 mile in length), but there were several other local options.

Beautiful area and wonderful site. Sean and Danielle met us and guided us to our site, covered all the unique elements of the area and set us up for a great time. Would highly recommend staying here.

Cedar Ridge Glamping Site
Glamping worth experiencing!
Sean and Danielle could not have been more welcoming to their Hipcamp site. They are lovely people and incredibly helpful. Cedar Ridge was the perfect glamping spot. This tent was roomy and comfortable and it slept 5 of us with lots of room to spare. There is a gorgeous, very large handmade picnic table and a fire ring surrounded by Adirondack chairs. All we had to do was light a match as the kindling and wood were in place and ready to go. There is a five minute walk to the campsite, but it is up and down and an uneven surface, so get there before sunset and wear sturdy shoes. The site was so comfortable that we barely left it despite plans to hike. The small town, Creal Springs, is five minutes away should you need anything and we were lucky enough to be there during their Wonder Waters Festival which as a treat. Sugar Creek Cafe is a must also.

Cedar Ridge Glamping Site
Love love love!!!!
Our family loved our trip! We cannot wait to come back! The glamping tent was so clean with an amazing ambiance. We loved exploring the trails and meeting the adorable farm animals. The morning light shined perfectly through the trees while enjoying our morning coffee. Our evening campfire was so enjoyable with their provided Adirondack chairs. The bed was very comfortable and we particularly enjoyed reading a book in the recliner. We are a family of 4and we fit more than comfortably in the spacious tent. Sean and Danielle have clearly put so much time and love into their farm and this beautiful space.

Cedar Ridge Glamping Site
bf and i decided we wanted to get out for a weekend together to go hiking and sightseeing in southern il. we got down there a bit later than expected, but danielle met us at the head of the trail and guided us to our tent in the dark! trails to the tent are a bit hilly so i recommend packing pretty light. tent was very nice and spacious, fit us very comfortably! awaiting us inside was a little bucket of goodies (bug spray, weenie roasters, the necessities), and they had even offered a little fan to keep us from melting from the post rain & heatwave humidity combo. we fell asleep to rain on the tent. next day we went hiking (they offer exploring on part of the property as well!), cooked up some weenies and s'mores and called it a weekend. lovely time

Forest Hill Primitive Site
Amazing stay!!
We loved the Primitive Campsite hosted by Danielle and Sean! Danielle came and met us at our car in the dark and walked us up to the campsite and showed us around first thing which was so sweet. There’s a bunch of kittens around the farm and they are all so friendly! We stayed a night and did the horseback riding in the morning and Danielle is a superb instructor and very knowledgeable about horses and her art. We didn’t get the opportunity to use both horseback riding lessons since we were there in a heat wave and didn’t want to overwork the horse, and Danielle was super awesome about giving us a refill for the time not used. Overall, great stay, would recommend!
